Being retired now, I have free time, lol, so I decided to see what the campus/lots/stadium/roads looked like. Basically, as of about 2 pm, all of the tailgate lots were in great shape, with only the front row of yellow and blue a bit soggy and the rest nearly 100% dry and certainly ready for cars - as I had posted the other day in the gameday weather thread, the lots have the best, lushest grass I can ever recall in nearly 40 years, so I figured they might hold up well and we know they are sloped and usually drain well, which they did. Included a pic of the yellow lot (where I'm standing) and the blue lot in the distance with a very rabid group of RU tailgaters in the front, who had been there since 6 am!! Chatted briefly with them and unfortunately, they can't all make Saturday, but they had a helluva tailgate going. White, green, scarlet, brown, purple, etc. were all fine with tailgaters only spotted in Green, unless I missed them. So the lots were not an issue and neither was the Stadium/Field, which looked perfect, as per the pic of that and every Busch/Livingston Campus Rd was dry.
The big issue, obviously, was the flooding from the Raritan River, which has River Road closed nearly everywhere from Highland Park to Bound Brook (although bone dry from Sutphen to Hoes Lane), as well as 18 being closed in NB; 3rd pic is of the south end of the stadium and flooded River Road (from Sutphen). Those closures would've made access a challenge, but I honestly think it would have been doable. I'm thinking the bigger issue was the logistics of having to reroute a lot of traffic around 18/River Road, which might've made 287 into a parking lot on a work night, plus many emergency/police staff possibly not being available due to other priorities. For local folks on the RU side of the Raritan, for the most part, getting to the stadium is easy right now (faster than usual for me from the Edison area).
Such a gorgeous day after such a tragic night. Certainly a shame we're not playing tonight as scheduled, which will suck for many who can't change their Saturday plans, but it's also hard to get too worked up over it, as it's just a football game in the grand scheme of things. On the bright side, Saturday is going to be spectacular with highs in the mid-70s, full sunshine (wear sunscreen!), and low humidity (and light winds). Hope everyone came through the storm ok and most can make it on Saturday. See you there and GO RU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
