NBATV app has picked up the upcoming Tuesday night CityOfPalmsBKB game between Don Bosco versus McEachern

I did not see this game but recent posts on this board lead me to believe that some Rutgers fans aren't happy about ace and to a lesser extent Dylan coming to play for Rutgers. Idk what that's about, I read this thread and thought ace had a bad game, look at the box scoe he scored 24 44% from the field 40% from 3 and his team isn't on don boscos level this year. They lost a couple key players from last year's team including jamichael Davis. Ace trying to be more aggressive this year and is learning how to attack a game as the dominant player he is. You see one game on the NBA app and a showcase at Rucker park and this has lead you to believe Ace's game needs work? Of course it does, every highschool player's game does but he's one of the top players in the nation. Some here seem to be suggesting he's overrated. Just watch, get some popcorn ready...

They are here for 32 games. It will be an adjustment.

Mag coming back is almost essential if we are to have a decent season next year.
Mag is important but getting a big man (bigger than Mag) who can defend and rebound is the most essential piece for next season. I would think offering starter’s minutes to play with Harper and Ace would be an attraction for a good portal player.

Lmao who is saying Ace is overrated!?!

Watch the game and then comment. His team isn't great and as a result he was forcing too much. That's all. He had a lot of nice moments but Dylan was outstanding all game. Hence what 95% of people are saying in this thread, outside of the board contrarian.

There is a disappointing amount of RU fans who truly have no interest in winning.....they're mentioning Mag as the most important player, in a thread discussion about the #2 & # 3 recruits in the class of 2024 and discussing lack of defense at a HS game.

If I put on the Florida vs Michigan game last night, I think it was 106-101 in a 2 OT final score. How on earth is RU supposed to compete in certain games, without players like what Gavin Griffiths, JMike Davis, Simpson and the 2024 class bring to the table, when you play teams who can score??

I am going to watch the same posters who somehow unravel when heaven forbid, Aundre Hyatt hunts down and takes a couple of forced shots......am I going to read for the next 15 months, that Ace Bailey isn't going to be given free reign to hunt down shots too??

Some RU fans need to evolve with the times and actually understand that if anyone watched the UNC vs Kentucky game this past Saturday in ATL, that is more likely the eventual path for RU to move towards....., in terms of style of play, pace, shooting, passing, driving and some of the most insane defensive blocked shots seen in a mid season game.

We have to understand what recruits want from their programs and it's freedom, creativity and pace, flow of the basketball. For every criticism about Gavin Griffiths and his defense, means to me, we are on the right track.....because Gavin will improve his defense AND his offense will develop as we get players around him.

One of the most popular and exciting times in RU sports history, will require fans patience and actually understanding change is a good thing......and the change taking place this year, with the roster, and adding Dylan, Ace and the 2024 kids, are part of that.

Video starts with Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper hitting on back to back plays followed by a mention from the announcers re: Rutgers.

NJH,

Do you really think I have no interest in seeing Rutgers win? Seriously. We actually agree about a lot of things and disagree about others. I think it is obvious I value defense and effort. It is obvious I view basketball as the winning team is the team that gives up less points then they score.

As far as mag's importance next year.....let's just agree to disagree. If there isn't glue, if there isn't a lead by example player this will be an exciting 4 months that ends with fans wondering if it was really worth it.

If you watched that game and thought it was any sort of clinic on offensive basketball I don't know what to tell you. Yeah they each got over 100 points but it took 94 possessions to get there. Florida shot pretty poorly overall and only won because they attacked the offensive glass and got second chances. That stuff is hugely important.

It’s sad how some of our fans don’t understand what elite HS talent looks like. These guys are literally the #2 and #3 players in the entire country. Haha

Statistics aren't the end all, but 9 times out of 10 I'll take them over the eyeball.

Obviously there is a great variability around shooting.....but raw score compared to possessions is a pretty good metric to look at. Teams get even turns at getting the ball (actually difference can be 2). When it was your turn did you get 0,1,2, or 3 points?

Maybe some fans don't understand what it takes to win college basketball games, especially the 2/3 of the schedule in B1G.

I am not debating AT ALL about the elite talent and future NBA careers for the 2. I have serious doubts how their talent beats Wisconsin or Northwestern in Chicago in the middle of February.

Harper and Bailey will be the main scoring threats and other player roles will be determined during practice sessions and actual games.Griffiths should be more active on offense taking 3 point shots and dribble drives to the basket.Other players will be needed rebounding and being effective with full court defensive pressure. The key for the team will be bench scoring when Harper and Bailey aren't on the court.Scoring droughts must be minimized for Rutgers to be successful during the regular season and post season NCAA Tournament. The anticipation for next season is at a all time high.

I'm hopeful and excited because it's more fun that way but I also notice the #11 player in the country getting DNPs for Michigan State.

#23 not doing so hot either...pretty sure he'd be going #11 if he was at MSU.

I am certain isiah Collier will be in the NBA, it is early, but so far USC not looking too hot despite returning a decent amount of players.

We do not need a portal player. We are getting another stud in Lathan Somerville , who will be ready Game 1. He will be the most talented offensive and probably defensive freshman center to enter Rutgers. We have a Fabulous 2 but we do have a FAB 5 . With Mag, JMike , Derek , Wolf and Egbole and Gavin coming back with the Fab 5 we will have a complete team but a young one

The reality is we are in 2024. Just about every team will need to help their team through free agency. Everyone has 1 year contracts. Assuming Cliff doesn't sign a 1 year contract with us it would be very nice if Sommerville can thrive as a starting center on day 1. I also hope Woolfolk progresses in the next 2/3 of the season to give us confident he is an answer for 10-20 minutes at the center position. That assume Woolfolk signs a 1 year contract with us

That was most one on one iso offense exhibited by both teams that ran almost no offense all game on both sides Michigan and Florida. It was ugly basket especially the part I watched the last 3-4 minutes of regulation and both overtime’s
This board criticizes Pike for the lack of offense sets but this board would have lit on fire on Howard and Todd Golden , their new coach that hunts 3’s and plays the analytics game with 5 out usually. It was rather pathetic.

See that is what should happen but may not. The 6 guys hopefully coming back next year to team with the Fab 5 should all get better as this year progresses and should be stronger and hopefully getting better next year. Wolf is a sophomore , so is Derek , JMike and Gavin freshman and Egbole has not played yet but is a sophomore I think. Mag is crucial for stability , offensively , defensively , on the glass and overall glue guy. I expect improvement not a decline.

They make shots at crunch time just like Baker,Harper and Spencer did in previous seasons.

Bosco having a tough time with Long Island Lutheran so far... Only scored 16 points in the first half on 4-26 shooting, 1-10 from 3.. Dylan 2-11 at halftime. 24-16 halftime score.

I hope and expect so.

They are used to playing offense with their heart rates in comfortable zones. They are used to being able to go easy half the game on D. The adjustment happens when they are asked to exert energy on defense and suddenly when on offense they find their heart rates in zones they may not be comfortable in.

Dylan Harper will have a lot on his plate next year. He will have to fight through screens on the high side, on offense he might have to facilitate offense and bring the ball up the court with opposition providing light to moderate pressure. On top of this he will be asked to score 15+ PPG.

He might be up to the task, but the transition is HUGE. I am not even bringing up the freshman WALL which is a real thing.

Bosco down 5 with 2:45 to go. Dylan has 21 so far, announcers made it sound like Dylan is hurting.

Dylan is absolutely a PG. He has a great handle; he has terrific vision; he is a great passer with both hands; and his dribble drive is smooth and effective. He also shoots well from outside.

In other words, everything you want in a modern lead/point guard. He will have the ball in his hands a lot next year, and will probably lead the team in assists.
He could use to be a little quicker, but he'll be very, very good. JD will play some point.

Exactly you’re local high school will lose by 40+ to both of these schools. Pike will have them playing hard on defense once they get on campus
I was at the game. A lot of local NJ high schools would be within 40 of MCeachern.

You see.. the way @Jerseylegends put it, he just created a plethora of "Rutgers Fans" who despise Ace and Dylan.

Strawman army.

Someone reads his post as it was the latest, newest.. they might assume what he said was true. After all, why would he claim "Rutgers fans" were not happy if it were not true?

Why.. indeed.

As others have said, Ace Bailey seemed to force some things while apparently trying to do too much himself in McEachern's loss to Don Bosco. In case anyone isn't aware, his performances in McEachern's next 2 City of Palms Classic games have been impressive. He did have 6 turnovers vs Westminster and 4 vs Cannon, but overall some very nice games on a big stage. Ace plays again in the City of Palms Classic Consolation Championship game vs North Mecklenburg (NC) at 2:30pm on Saturday, the tournament's final day.

VS Westminster on Wed:

26 Pts, 12-21 FG, 2-8 3PT, 0-0 FT, 18 REB (6 OR, 12 DR), 5 Ast, 3 Stl

Highlights

VS Cannon School on Fri:

43 Pts, 18-27 FG, 3-4 3PT, 4-4 FT, 19 REB (6 OR, 13 DR), 5 Ast, 2 Stl

Highlights

Those rebounding numbers alone are just ridiculous

??? "Why indeed" There have been several threads where I've felt the need to chime in because other players were proclaimed to be better. And I said "some Rutgers fans" in a thread where people were saying his game needs work because they saw one game. I did not say a "plethora" of Rutgers fans. Just a couple that want to place other players above with little to no evidence of that being the case. Also the posters that aren't sure about the direction of the team in the NIL era and don't like the idea of 1 and done. This has been an ongoing thing on this board for months; simply an extension of the conversation.

I guess that 43 point game had a great stat stuffer .. The numbers are insane. But looking at ACE aside from AAU ball, he will absolutely crush it. Flagg is great and Dylan is great but Ace will be the best player.
