Nebraska Postgame Thoughts

i’ll have a 2018-2019 season recap tomorrow. As for tonight...

1) this one is on pike. Completely and totally outclassed and outcoached. The team looked like they didnt have a clue out there tonight. The players couldve gone out there without a coach and won tonight. That was despicable.

2) Geo disappeared once again. For about 2 weeks now hes completely looked lost. His defense was awful, he cannot get through screens and looks miserable even attempting to do so. Hes gonna have to step it up next year because if he doesnt there will be options to turn to.

3) Eugene cares. Hes the ultimate competitor. Hes the type of guy build a program with. That was a dirty foul at the end but you could tell it was solely out of frustration.

4) 20 turnovers or close to it. I mean thats just horrendous. You cannot have that. Next year adding 2 guys in young and mulcahy will drop that number significantly because once guys starting acting careless with the ball theyll be yanked.

5) we needed to drive the ball more tonight. The lack of driving the ball to the bucket was pathetic. They had 6 guys. The gameplan shouldve been simple. Pound the ball inside, and drive the ball to the bucket. NU couldnt afford to play tough D in fear of foul trouble. We played right into their hands.

All in all pitiful performance tonight. All things considered, worst of the year imo.

Exactly. This was drive to the basket night. However, our guards aren't quick enough. Thats a problem. I hope Young is good because we need his speed.

I never put these kinds of disasters on coaches. I guarantee you he was trying to get their attention. Just like he was for PSU. The worst thing that ever happened to this team was blowing Iowa out.

They've been hot garbage ever since. They totally deserved to get the court wiped with themselves after the half-assed efforts the last 3 games. Pike should take the plane and make anyone who had a turnover take Greyhound home.

5. agree fully and that is why the reaction is so strong tonight. It wasnt just a loss. It was a loss because the whole mindset and coaching was just wrong.

Both Geo and Caleb have shown they are more then capable of driving this season. Why they or the coaching staff have never made this a point of emphasis I have no idea.

The thing that was the most frustrating part of that foul was that it was yet another bad Geo turnover leading to an easy basket that caused it. I was more angry at Geo than I was at Gene. The game was truly over as soon as Geo threw that away.

That's definitely a problem, but you only have to be quick enough to draw the foul, not necessarily to make the shot. There are ways to draw fouls by leaning in and thru defenders, but we don't have enough players capable of doing it.

Next year we should be better going up and down the court with different ball handlers. But we'll have the same core of players making bad decisions. Young can't be making every pass and we really have zero inside presence despite our size. Our big guys had so many shots blocked with no fouls being called because they don't know how to adjust a shot. Don't see how you can learn that stuff on the run.

We have done that TOO many times, especially late in the season.

How can the clock be under 3, and no one on (of off) the court be yelling to shoot it?
And sometimes a guy makes a pass with 2 or 3 seconds on the clock.

So stupid.

EO and maybe Myles looked like they cared. No sense of urgency or passion from anyone else really. Caleb's quick fouls hurt as we didn't get his spark off the bench in the first half.

Everyone had to know to pound it inside and drive. Not sure what was wrong and no one did. Dude has 3 fouls the entire second half guarding Geo and he doesn't try to get to the basket on him. Crazy.

When Geo is off this year the team generally looks really bad. It's going to be totally different next year with Mulcahy and Young. Our offense should be much improved. Young can create his own shot and Mulcahy is an elite passer
