November 8th-Jon Kaloust Bearcat Open (Binghamton, Franklin & Marshall, Harvard, Hofstra, Lehigh, Maryland, Navy, Old Dominion, Penn, Princeton, Rutgers, Sacred Heart) @ Binghamton, New York

I'm not sure if team scores are kept, but appears Lehigh would be highest ranked team here (about 8) followed by RU, Old Dominion , Princeton and Maryland.

good test for our kids! wish i was closer to binghamton to travel...

141 is a brutal weight class/amazing opportunity for Ashnault to shine. There are twelve teams participating. The 141 bracket potentially has 8 ranked/past NCAA qualifiers competing. Here's the list: #4 Mecate, #8 Ash, #9 Durso, #14 Preston, #16 Cruz, #17 Bannister, NCAA q. Laster (Princeton), NCAA q. Hudson (Hofstra). One or both of the last two may have moved up a weight. BTW Bannister just shellacked Racciato (2x NCAA q. and 2015 ACC champ from Pitt) 9-5 on Sunday. Should be fun.

To my fellow RU wrestling fans:
According to the Flowrestling.org website, the "Binghampton Open" will be broadcast on their website with a subscription. It's about time for me to sign up. Last year I signed up for monthly subscriptions when I noticed a tournament that I didn't want to miss. I regret not signing up last week to watch the Super-32 high school tournament. But, now that I know the results I can go back and watch all the archived footage.

After the dual meet on Sunday, I spoke to Direct of Operations-Billy Ashnault regarding the Binghampton Open. He said that Rutgers will be sending 15 wrestlers- 6 of whom are starters. That then leads to the question of whether the other teams will be sending their red shirts, 2nd stringers or starters. Regardless, the Rutgers roster will see very good competition in NY.

That's interesting. So some of our starters won't be wrestling? Also, can a school enter more than 1 wrestler per weight class OR are there separate brackets, say for the red shirting guys ?

Abro-you can enter more than one wrestler per weight class.

I don't think you will see Ash this weekend, personally I would give him the weekend off. 11/15 he is going to wrestle the #1 ranked guy at 141, and the #1 ranked guy, and returning National Champion at 133.

Tough call. It may be more valuable for March to wrestle tournament format matches but I get your thinking and those two duals should be close matches. Cornell will be at Binghamton too so you can add a ranked Mark Grey (Blair grad) to the stacked 141 bracket if everyone shows.

Not sure if Grey is back in lineup yet. Thought I heard January, but don't hold me to that.

I agree...With the Schedule he has coming up I wouldn't send him. Giraldo and Dippery I hope will be on the list to go for sure.

I would like to see him wrestle Mecate & some of those others.

These are the 16 I believe you will see at the tournament. No Starters.

Josh Patrick

Peter Lipari

Luis Gonzalez

Scott Delvecchio

Jalen Ramos

Nicholas Ottaviano

Billy Povalac

Ken Theobald

Jordan Pagano

Dylan Painton

Willie Scott

Michael Simmons

John Van Brill

Anthony Messner

Kyle Kremiller

Ralph Normandia

Per the post above, Billy said 6 of the 15 were starters. So, I suppose I would expect to see McCabe, Giraldo, Dippery, Lewis, Perrotti, and Backuckas if that was true.

Technically, Patrick, Ottaviano, Pagano, Messner, and Van Brill started against Centenary. So he didn't lie.

I hope we bring none of our regulars. We don't need to bring them. We have good backups and redshirts going. We have 3 top ranked opponents at NE duals next week so why get them beat up this weekend. Have them fresh.

The more competition the better. Season just started and the guys couldn't be any fresher.

Just my humble, uninformed opinion. Coaches will do what they think is best.

Great call not sending them. #14 -#20-#23- in the country will be a huge test at Journey Duals. However I don't think they should put it on the schedule if they didn't intend to send any starters. Just treat it like every other tournament they send there redshirts to this time of year.

I see your point about not putting on the schedule when there are other tournaments that are not on the schedule that our backups and redshirts will be going to.

Question for WNG (sorry have to ask).
The 3 guys that are not starters that are not going, what is their status. They are Gentile, Cali and Pafumi.

Obviously if anyone was at the matches this past Sunday you saw Gentile has a sling on his (I believe) good shoulder. Whats up with him? I noticed during the wrestle offs Cali spent more time up in the seats then with the team on the bench and he didn't have a wrestle-off. Is he banged up? And not sure if anything is up with Pafumi or just giving him the weekend off?

Gentile banged his good shoulder and was having an MRI yesterday. Cali? Drawing a blank on who? Parfumi I assume might be used at the duals

Looks like Binghampton Open is no longer listed on Flowrestling. However, it appears that newjerseywrestlingnews.com will have the live feed on their website for free.

Hopefully it's nothing too serious. I assume they are red shirting Gentile due to injuries, no?
