Nice story in Philly Inquirer about our win vs. Nebraska

Good article. It looks like he did his homework. With so many of its readers living in South Jersey, the Inquirer really should consider RU as one of its home teams, along with the Big 5, Drexel and PSU. The RU turnout at the Linc in 2012, the last time we played Temple there, should have been enough to convince them that RU is one of its home teams.

Rutgers is not located in the Philly market/DMA so I can understand Rutgers athletics being a secondary priority to schools actually within the market, esp. in hoops with mutiple D1 teams. There's a better case to be made in football as Rutgers is the closest P5 program to Philly (and second closest beside Temple if expanded to all FBS).

The Philly Inquirer (now Philly.com) had some nice coverage of RU Football back in the mid-late 2000’s when we were hot.

Once the program faded the coverage faded and they started giving Temple way more coverage as they rose.

A winning football or basketball program will get the coverage up and down the I95 corridor. We just need to give them a reason to cover us, and Pikiell is.

I honestly can’t ever remember an article from this publication about Rutgers Basketball other than maybe the Mike Rice saga or hiring of Eddie Jordan. Times are changing for basketball.

Actually, the site is now inquirer.com, and the paper continues to publish as the Philadelphia Inquirer every day. Yes, they will give us more coverage if we win. OTOH, I think they will always give priority to Penn State, Villanova and the other Philadelphia schools when we play them.

Correct I forgot they did away with Philly.com and started using Inquier.com.

Silly move as Philly.com had built up a brand and Inquirer was associated with the dying paper.

Agree they will always give priority to the Philly schools but it was nice to see a lengthy and detailed article on the basketball team from a writer that actually attended the game.

Expect to see more football articles and coverage in the next 1-2 years once Schiano gets the program moving back in the right direction.

I'd lovee to play a game at the palestra like PSU does every year.
Great old school venue, memories, and exposure. Maybe one at Trenton and also AC Boardwalk hall. some rotation for south jersey. 1 of the three each year.

Jensen sounds like a believer. Good for him.

I don't know if he's a believer, but I've seen his by-line in the Inquirer a lot of times, and he seems like a pretty straight shooter. Neither he nor the Inquirer have any favoritism toward Rutgers, and so if he's reporting good things, I'm inclined to trust him.

Gary Potosky is the sports editor for the Philadelphia Inquirer. He is a long-time friend. Both of us wrote for the Targum in the mid 80s. We majored in Journalism and had several classes together. We graduated in 1987. We were on the sports staff together at The Daily Journal in Elizabeth in the late 80s and early 90s.

Trust me. There's favoritism at the Inquirer. If Gary was permitted to publish Rutgers stories daily, he would.

There may be people with favoritism, but it doesn't make its way into the news columns, and that's what's important. The Inquirer is well aware that few people in its circulation area care much about Rutgers. Only winning will change that, and even then Penn State and other schools will get better coverage.

Agree.

With that said, no one was more thrilled to assign Mike Jensen to cover yesterday's game at the RAC than Gary.
