I was amazed how little Buie sat last night. Looking at the box score this morning I was surprised to see how he and Martinelli both played 39 minutes each. That was quite the contrast with Pike's liberal substitution pattern. I don't think I can recall a Pike player ever getting 39 minutes in a forty minute game.

He seemed pretty tired as the game went on so for NW purposes I don't know if it was necessarily a great thing but they also don't have anything behind him.

Baker, Harper and McConnell each played 38 at least once in that miracle stretch run to get us in the 2022 tournament.

Only time I can remember Pike leaning on the starters like that, our defense is taxing

This has been typical for Northwestern all season. Three of their players are among the league leaders minutes per game. They have virtually no bench. Losing Berry for the season was devastating. When they lost Langborg on the ejection, the game should have been over. Buie slid into the stands in the second half and got up holding his wrist for a while. I don't believe he scored much after that.

A team that shallow should be attacked constantly until you get them in foul trouble.

Its what allows a team like ours to play well in the 2nd half compared to others because of the depth of minutes we can play people. Keeps us fresh which primarily helps us on the defensive end.
If we could ONLY play better in the 1st half like we did against Wisconsin we would be better suited to close out games without the anxiety

Doesn't happen too often, but Pike doesn't shy away from playing guys big minutes.
