You have a random Wednesday in the summer to entertain a guest from the midwest. Do you take them to NYC or do you take them to Belmar or Point Pleasant?

Put together your itinerary.

Depends on the given day and demographics of the party though in the summer Id go to the shore. Frankly as a beach person who usually has a Belmar badge (without any money now so no beach) I'd take a day trip to LBI if you have the whole day. Frankly with Belmar if you have a whole day, why not do both if you get up early?.

The beauty of Belmar is that one can pick up route 18 and avoid Parkway traffic (especially on weekend). You can leave Belmar at 5pm (though I guess if you do both you can go to Point Pleasant and shower in the bathhouses) and be at the New Brunswick or Metuchen train station at 6:15PM. Getting to the Point Pleasant beach on a weekend day can be such a hassle

What would your party prefer on a hot day/? is there a Yankee or Met day or night game that day? Any good shows at PNC, MSG or AC that day? Would that party like a Belmar or Point Pleasant/Seaside Heights (fireworks on Wednesday nights in summer) type boardwalk?

If you know the city well how about a boat trip around Manhattan? Theres also a new summer Radio City Rockette show.

There are lots of good concerts the 2nd half of August/Septemvber in NJ. Bruce at Metlife and Buffett, Zac Brown and Florida-Georgia Line on the beach in AC to nme a few.

If it is just adults. Go to Asbury Park. You have the beach, and a much better selection of bars, restaurants, shops and things to see than Belmar or Pt. Pleasant. The Boardwalk on Asbury is much more interesting than Belmar (nothing) and Pt. Pleasant (rides, games and food stands). Walk through Convention Hall and down to the Casino and cross over into Ocean Grove and check out the Victorian homes. Multiple bars and restaurants on the boardwalk and the iconic Wonder Bar and Stone Pony. Walk up Cookman Ave and there are lot of interesting shops and restaurants. Go to the Biergarten and have a beer and a brat on the rooftop bar.

If you have kids with you, go Pt. Pleasant.

LOL, I see what you did there! He had a good time in NYC, after a somber start at the September 11 Museum, a lot of walking in mid town and pizza at John's on 44th St

If you want a pure beach day trip there is no better beach in the state than Island Beach State Park. It is one of the most beautiful places in the state. Going on a wednesday is even better because you can hit one of the small parking lots a little further down and have some pristine white sand beach all to yourself. You would never know you are in NJ. There are showers and changing rooms to clean up before going to the Crab's Claw in Lavallette for dinner. Good food and a GREAT beer selection (100+ to choose from)

The kicker is somebody visiting from the midwest - in that case NYC always has the wow factor. I'd walk around Central Park for a bit, and eat lunch at Strawberry Fields - always loved eating lunch there and people watching when I lived around there. For the rest it all depends on what you like and your budget - there are plays (matinees on Wed), museums, and even take one of those tours if he's never been there before. For me I've always loved the Village and could be entertained for hours at Washington Square Park and Tompikins Park in Alphabet City is pretty funky (well used to be anyway) - can you tell I'm a big park person. Even walking around Times Square at night to someone who hasn't been here before would be pretty cool. And TONS of places to eat. Again, don't know your likes and/or budget.

For beach I definitely recommend Asbury - if he has kids go to Point Pleasant - easy! For Asbury definitely hit Porta and/or Langosta Lounge on the beach - really good food. If you want to do it a little cheaper do Mogo - korean tacos. If you want to get off the beach for a bit go to Cookman Ave (2-3 blocks off) where they have lots of boutique stores and great restaurants.

Good luck and have fun!

Puppy-though I haven't been in years seaside always had the best boardwalk. To me Jenkinsons is basically 3-4 arcades and a bunch of shops with few rides. Also you may not believe but for 20-30 somethings seaside heights is a smaller version of Mecca as many want to seethe "Jersey Shore" house and places featured in such.

Gives us a little more info on your guest(s) and I bet we can give you a great itinerary for both options.

Interesting question as someone from the mid-west may not have ever seen the ocean. Myself, it would be NYC. I would tend to not do any shows as that is almost like taking a first date to a movie. Yes, if they are staying a 2nd day, then you do a broadway show. Agree with someone above who stated going to the parks.
A couple of years ago, I had a nephew visit us from Cali and with limited time, I gave him a 4 hour tour of NYC. Took the train in to Penn St- he loved seeing MSG as he is a huge NBA fan. Walked a couple of blocks to the ESB, got back into the subway(he loved experiencing the subway as well), took it down to Wall St, walked over to where the ferry leaves for the statue of liberty, stood at the water for a while(btw- he couldnt stop buying dirty dogs almost every place we rested), walked to the 911 memorial, took the subway up to times square, walked to Rockefeller Center(This was Nov) then hit a Connelly's for a quick pub dinner and then headed home.

My son's significant other is from rural Kansas.
Whenever any relatives visit the interest is always greater for a trip into Manhattan
Because we live 5 minutes from the ocean we can get there sometime during the visit
so the visitors can also see the Atlantic. But to see N.Y.C. when your previous idea of a city is Topeka or Wichita
or even Kansas City is a little mind blowing. Add a Broadway show and it makes a very memorable day

I would take them to NYC rather than the beach...too much to worry about changing and being sweaty and all that. Much easier to sightsee in NYC and do dinner there than have to worry about smelling and changing. You have many more options there

Depends if you want to just chill or cram things in. Obviously, the ocean is more relaxing, but the city more exciting. Go to a Palm reader first.

I'd take them to Sea Girt ort Manasquan.
Personally, I stay as far away from Belmar and Pt. Pleaseant boardwalk as possible

I like how people are taking time to write out elaborate itineraries, even after it's been revealed this is a joke. It's RUjohnny99, folks, nothing the guy says is serious. Save your time.

I guess the Lithuanian Laser is in town. Saw in the fat cat he would be around. Hope he has a great visit. Now get down to the shore and show that kid some girls in bikini's frolicking in the surf.

Agree with you 100% that Seaside has the better Boardwalk - the issue with Seaside is and has always been the crowd that goes there. Point Pleasant much more family friendly in my opinion.

Tadas's grandfather is my dad's brother. I guess that makes him my nephew or second cousin. RUJohnny is a 3rd cousin (I think). So Tadas and his mom and sisters stayed with our family on their trip East. I was their tour guide. His Mom was so intent on seeing the September 11 Museum she bought Guided Tour tickets for us all. So we started our NYC trip there, caught the 1 World Trade Center building , took the PATH into the new spanking new Transist Hub (pretty impressive) and then went uptown for some fun after the somber, but powerful Museum. Had lunch at John's Pizza in the church like building on 44th St. They took a TON of pics, including Tadas with some attractive half naked lady, his sisters w the naked cowboys, and in front of every landmark you can think of . His mom is a sweetheart, Tadas besides being a very talented, strong arm QB, is a tremendous student 3.8 GPA, and has a terrific, humble, personality. Anyway, the day went well today , and Tadas spent a lot of time talking to the coaches before and after the camp, but was disappointed he left without an offer , after the R staff showed him a lot of interest , and talked to us all. Tomorrow he camps at Syracuse, and Babers has known about him for a while since he coached at Bowling Green, and spent an hour with him 1 on 1 on a previous visit. Hopefully his offer comes tomorrow. Later this week it's off to Mich St and Michigan. MSU coaches have been to his HS 3 times in the past few months to talk to him. He's camped at Northwestern and Indiana as well, and they said they think NorthWestern is very interested. At the camp today besides the RU coaches, there were staffs there from Navy, Princeton, Lehigh and about 10 others D2 (FCS?) schools including powerhouses Salve Regina and Kean., hey, maybe some kids get some interest there. BUT, RUJohnny's OP I guess was a tease pointed to me, as he's seen some Facebook postings of mine with Tadas and his family in NYC. They did want to see the Jersey Shore But only had 1 free day.

Here he is with his mom and 2 sisters, both BB players being 6ft tall. I took the pic. I'm not posting the pic with him and the naked cowgirl, lol, I'm afraid it would get around.
