I'm a bit surprised all the coverage has been on offers to NJ players, but I haven't heard much about out-of-state recruiting. Any chance we sign a kid or two from Ohio or elsewhere in the Midwest? Babers reportedly stripped Toledo, but could we perhaps flip some guys committed to MAC schools? Maybe some Kent State or Akron commits? Maybe even a PJ Fleck commit? Looks like WMU has a decent class.

Well, if your looking for Ohio kids I know this kid here is coming to Ohio St. as a preferred walk-on. His name is Hayden Jester. He was the GCL Linebacker of the year at Cincinnati Lasalle, who were the D3 State Champions this year. 6-2...228 LB's and runs well. The GCL is THE best Conference in the State of Ohio. This film is against teams like St. Xavier and Cincinnati Moeller...Powerhouse programs in Ohio. I'm floored this kid didn't get bigger offers. Judge for yourself...

I really like this kid. I hope that we offer him. He's just as good as some of the kids that we offered.

Ohio like Pennsylvania produces many quality football players.

Now with only ONE P5 school in the state of Ohio. Ohio is turning out to be a great recruiting area (especially eastern Ohio) for Pitt.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Ok, for the experts. Looking at his film, why did he not get more looks? Is it technique? He looks like the "water boy", but I don't know much about fundamentals of football. I am interested in hearing back.

Ash would be stupid not to take a kid that OSU just can't fit in...especially with his relationships there

I'd expect a few for sure
Yeah, but he said he won't take any OSU guys. I have to assume this includes walk ons.

Pretty sure your HC has been recruiting this area for a long time, along with every B1G coach. But I'd have to think our new HC has been recruiting Ohio for a long time too, dating back to his time at Wisconsin. I just would've expected more from this state in his first year since he hasn't built relationships in NJ yet. But as someone else posted, there's still a week left.

I understand him feeling that way.....the problem we have is that every time there is a shuffle of recruits between Ohio state, Michigan, and Penn state, it sometimes hurts RU in a round about way, yet not being directly pinned on Ohio state.....

would Ohio state be offended if we offered a schollie to a walk on of theirs?....... yeah, probably

Correct.

A number of our current recruits are from Ohio. It also helps that Narduzzi was a B1G coach who recruited there and was born and raised in Youngstown Ohio about 60 miles from Pittsburgh.

Wow i hope any of this is not true...

This has away been true. There's a pecking order. School A takes a kid from B, B turns around and takes one from C, C takes one from D and so on. OSU and Michigan are high A's, PSU a low A or high B. RU is a low B or high C right now.

It's a delicate situation this year with Ash moving over, but I'll say...they shouldn't be offended. If another P5 program (or even D1 program really) wants to offer them a scholarship, good for that kid. Next year it will be cleaner and Ash absolutely should recruit the hell out of Ohio. Even if he can't compete for the top guys with Ohio State/Michigan State/Notre Dame he can get the second level kids that are going to Pitt, West Virginia, Kentucky, etc.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. Let's be honest; no top flight Ohio kid is coming to Rutgers over OSU/Michigan, etc. Where Ohio has an advantage over NJ though is that there are a lot more solid 3-star-type kids who being recruited by the likes of mid-to-low level P5/high-end G5. I hope Ash can capitalize on those.

Syracuse and Kentucky are getting a bunch of kids from Ohio. I see Kentucky already has 2 Top 10 recruits from Ohio committed. Ohio State has 6 top 11 committed from Ohio for 2017.

Me too. I'd much rather see those kids stay in the B1G than head to the SEC, ACC or Big 12.
