Olympics Thread official or unofficial (Please no spoilers).

It indicates a lack of interest, which could affect future revenue or coverage.

There wasn't a "lack of interest" in Atlanta, Sydney, Athens, Beijing, or London, and I highly doubt it's something NBC is going to worry about with the Tokyo games.

Anyhow, SIAP:

...and I strongly suggest googling her pictures!

Nuts, NBC just covered the attendance thing again. We've mentioned before:

1) High ticket prices
2) Worries about Zika
3)Worries about terrorism/crime
4) Lots of bad pre Olympics publicity re pollution, yada.
5) Long security lines are preventing/delaying entry of many

So we learned that having it in a place like Rio is not a good idea. It may make sense to just rotate it among 4-5 different locations in the future to avoid the massive expense of building facilities.

Newark, NJ's Shakur Stevenson is one the final 4 boxers in the Olympic Bantomweight division. He beat a Brazialian decisively today. He should make it to the gold medal fight, but there it will be very tough. He will be facing either the Irish or Russian boxers, who are both very good.

As I predicted, Shakur Stevenson beat the Mongolian to advance to the gold medal fight Thursday

Problem is if you rotate across 5 locations that is once every 20 years....rebuild of pools tracks etc still required, but i agree a lot less expensive.

Never should have given it to Rio. Simple as that.

Yes, the long security lines DELAY people entering events. They DO NOT make stadium half-empty-to-3/4ths-empty for the entire event. It's an excuse that officials are giving to NBC for shitty attendance. That's all.

** half-empty stadium tonight despite some great events going on in track-and-field:

- men's javelin final
- women's long jump final
- women's 110 HH semis and final
- men's decathlon 400
- women's 200 semis and final
- men's 200 semi

....there shouldn't be single empty seat let alone thousands and thousands.

Brazil pulling American athletes off flights who were held up at gun point and didn't give the exact time.

Brazil, you suck.

This story has more to it than meets the eye. Brazil COULD be playing politics with the US. However supposedly the stories differ and thec4 members of the swim team were already out of Dodge (Lochte) or trying to get out-seemingly fast.

Putting together this story and my "experience" with what I've heard of Brazil-I'm concerned about a bad possibility.

Lots of guys go to RIO to hook up-as in Prostitution. Cheap, plentiful and the women arev beautiful. Supposedly easy to pick up (flood Ipenema Beach). However much worse is that the poor (Flavelas) may pimp their young daughters out for desparately needed money. Prostitution is common (though rape might be prosecuted)-however there is pressure to cut down on the selling of young children. Lets hope either of these are not the case.

Is it just me or does the Track and Field announcer with the island accent have a real hard on for Jamaican sprinters. Every time one wins in the 100 or 200 he makes you think it's the greatest accomplishment in the history of the Olympics. Three Americans medal in the same race, ehhh that's a fine accomplishment, but nothing special.

Right. That's the point. If nobody cares enough to show up to games, there's a decent chance they don't care to watch it on TV either.

Not sure that's true or not - I simply have no data on whether there's a correlation of attendance to TV viewership. I know I've probably watched more Olympics this year than in past events, i.e., my viewing is completely unaffected by attendance at the event, but I have no idea how the "average" person responds to attendance.

Most likely he does, since he ran for Bermuda or The Bahama's himself as an Olympian, he was very good. I actually like his announcing, and you can't argue w/ the Jamaicans success.

Better than the other announcer that said Gatlin won his heat when he actually finished in third.

USA women wrestler from Maryland (Merulis sp?), just upset the 3x returning Japanese Gold medalist and world champion in a shocking upset. The Japanese lady was uncontrollably crying. American woman crying tears of happiness. Japan already won 3 Golds in Womens freestyle wrestling. Who knew wrestling so big over there ?

That would be 4-time Olympic medal winner Ato Boldon, who hails from Trinidad and Tobago.
