OT: 2023 Rock and Roll HOF Nominations and Billboard's Handicapping of Chances to Make It

So you're a "no" on Britney Spears and Taylor Swift in the R&R HOF.šŸ˜
I listen mostly to just rock and reggae music, so I know nothing about either one of those artists' work. I hear Swift is extremely popular though.
Listen, as i posted above, anyone could take a quick look at the artists that are currently in the Rock and Roll HOF and realize that it's not necessary to create actual rock and roll to be enshrined there. It's why I have no respect for the institution. And I couldn't care less about who is selected this year for enshrinement.

So you're a "no" on Britney Spears and Taylor Swift in the R&R HOF.šŸ˜
Sorry, but putting these two in the same category is just wrong. TS has a ton more talent and chops than Britney, who was somewhat of a manufactured pop star who didn't write most of her hits. Swift conquered the genres of country, pop, hip-hop and indie rock, which is pretty amazing, writing most of her songs, playing on most of them and producing quite a few too. She is a mortal lock for the HOF and rightly so, while Britney wouldn't get a vote from me.

Taylor Swift has rock 'n roll songs?

The Grammys were tragic except for Brandi Carlisle who kicked ass and also Smokey Robinson who still has it at 82 and they shouldnt have made him give that award to that nasty duo

Not joking at all...Weird Al needs to get the nod one of these days. One of only four artists to have a top 40 hit in the 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s, along with Madonna, Michael Jackson, and U2.

Plenty, especially on Folklore and Evermore and many of her big hits are amalgams of styles, including pop-rock, country-rock and indie-rock. And if you want a shining example of one of the best rock power ballads ever recorded and performed, her "All Too Well" performance last year on SNL is a masterpiece, IMO (and in the opinion of countless others).

Never heard a TS song on any rock station ever. Pop rock, country rock --indie? rock...that's not rock n roll, at least as it used to be.

Doesn't mean she doesn't have rock songs - most rock stations play a very narrow setlist and probably wouldn't play her songs because of her country/pop roots anyway. Plenty of people whose opinions I give more credence to than yours agree with me - folks like McCartney, Springsteen, Dave Grohl and Carole King.

Didn't see a thread on this - the nominees came out today and include the following, while the link below is Billboard's effort to handicap the odds of each nominee to make it. Who you got? Ok bro we know musical tastes are subjective but please with the silliness about the usual PC star brigade "agreeing" with you. McCartney Springsteen etc would never say a negative word about a Taylor Swift--maybe a Tommy Swift lol--for fear of you Swifties cancelling them on Twittler.

I tried listening to the whole song clip but seriously that is no rock ballad and it sure ain't a masterpiece. It makes Sister Christian sound like Stairway To Heaven lol. And yeh I'm grateful too for the "narrow" setlists on rock radio..as Mick and the boys said so well... I know it's only rock and roll but I like it....

Swifties? Cancel? Twittler? Overreact much? I'm pretty sure the folks I named don't "fear" Taylor Swift, lol. Back to the music part, you're certainly welcome to not like her music, but I don't see how you can't agree that the song I linked is a power ballad, like countless rock bands have put out. You said she didn't have rock songs and this is a rock song regardless of whether or not you like it. Period.

LOL overreact...you're the swiftie getting your panties in a bunch here..imagine if Paul McCartney said a bad word about her lol. Look she's super talented, a great pop singer, has a great voice and obviously is worthy of her superstar success. However to-date she is not ROCK&ROLL Hall of Fame material. Period.

lmfao...no that is not rock music

Ya know, I did see her performance of that tune on SNL. She was good.
Not Rock and Roll IMO.
Not sure that has anything to do with her being in that HOF though. She's no less Rock than a bunch already in that Hall.

Just rename this stupid org The Music HOF already. Other than classical, itā€™s de facto that already. Fix that by adding the 40+ famous classical composers in one shot.

More importantly, I finally purchased the 40th anniversary addition of Permanent Waves on vinyl after the price finally came down. Some really good live stuff from that tour.

As for the rest of these bandsā€¦ whatever. Warren and Maiden should be in.

Numbersā€¦ donā€™t ever compare Ringo to Jackā€™s ex wife/sister or whatever she is. She canā€™t play. Period. She does enough to keep time and give that garage feel but I can find any 12 year old with a year of school band lessons to do more.

I'm sure many of you have seen these before. Just think that these are interesting observation.

Iā€™ve seen the Garcia clip before and itā€™s a legitimate criticism. I certainly donā€™t think DJs should be considered musicians. While Rap does not do anything for me in a musical way, you have to accept that it is a form of musical related expression. My oldest son listened to Rap exclusively growing up. Itā€™s the thing that resonates with him. He does now listen to some rock music.

I certainly donā€™t think DJs should be considered musicians.

I think one exception to this is that, at this point, most bigger name DJs are also producers and quite a few are classically trained when theyā€™re younger.

One might not like edm or electronic music, but itā€™s still music. Ableton and Logic Pro donā€™t just generate music.

Jerry is right.
BTW, "it is a form of musical related expression" is really stretching it.

No surprise that real rock bands got shite on.
Sheryl freaking Crow, Missy Elliot, Willie Nelson and RATM over Soundgarden, The White Stripes, Warren Zevon and Iron Maiden. PULEEZE already.

In the performer category the group includes Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine and The Spinners.

DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray will be the recipients of the Musical Influence Award, while Chaka Khan, Al Kooper and Bernie Taupin have been selected to receive the Musical Excellence Award.

This yearā€™s Ahmet Ertegun Award recipient is Don Cornelius.

Don Cornelius and Bernie Taupin well -deserved imo; a couple guitar guys I know agree with Link Wray. No idea how Willie Nelson--a country music Mt Rushmore giant of course-- Crow and Kate Bush get into R&R HOF. Rage had a couple good songs but don't know much about the whole of their work. Never heard of Missy Elliot lol.

Link Wray was one of the rock and roll pioneers. He should have been in already.

Sheryl Crow over Maiden is embarrassing. She had a nice career but not hall worthy and I would go farther to say Cyndi Lauper did more for music than Crow
