OT: 2024 NY Giants Season Thread

Now that’s funny. Stayed healthy last year? Please. Maybe you make your own breaks by drafting wisely on the OL and developing guys or being brutally honest about mistakes during the previous year and making the necessary changes to address them. I really try to like Giants fans but some of you make it impossible. 😂
Lol they are one of the least injured teams in the league. That’s not a knock on them. Agreed the Giants have not drafted wisely or developed players. Trust me I know

With all due respect, I don’t think you were paying attention to who they trotted out on D last year, particularly at LB and in the secondary. They also lost Mailatta, Goedert, Smith and Lane Johnson for games this year. And finally, lost the starting QB early in the Washington game that eventually cost the No. 1 seed.

Again, all NFL teams do it. Are we going to go after Mahomes and Stafford too? I think if it’s a long period you have an argument, but one week is no big deal.

Look at all the injuries NFL teams get when season starts - Bart Scott said its because players coast all summer and aren't in football shape when the season starts. NFL is actually pretty weak about conditioning and not a model in my view. I think a revolution is condition is looming. Injured players - sure rest them. The whole team is just ignorance. Did NYGs take off when they beat NE 2X?

I wasn’t referring to last year in general they are a very healthy team that rarely suffer injuries.

Fair enough. Is that luck or something the organization is doing? Probably a little bit of both. Sometimes injuries just snakebite a team no matter what you do. See Rutgers football this year. But to say the Eagles didn’t lose key guys at critical times this year is not accurate.

Didn’t the Giants want to end NE’s streak that one year and didn’t they need the win the other year?

The NYGs had to play their last games but even with the need to play they had to beat playoff teams that were off.
The Pats were off and undefeated and Giants beat them with no byes.
The last regular season game of 2007 was mentioned by a lot of Giants/Pats as a wake-up call.
The NYGs lost 38-35 but they put a scare into the Pats while boasting confidence of NYG players.
DO NYGs win SB without playing that last game?

In 2011 the NYGs were having an injury plagued season that few would have seen ending with a SB win over Pats.
In their last 8 games of 2011 Giants lost 5 - including 4 in a row.
I remember Tuck had a shoulder injury bothering him all season.
Yet the Giants came through to beat 4 teams in playoffs.

I can see an injured player like Mahomes taking off the last game but on the whole I've found the "resting team" principle sketchy

Yikes - sending Nabers across the middle on short RZ field and now he's on sideline post pop

Wiki on NYGs vs Packers in 2011

"Eli Manning threw three touchdowns, which proved to be instrumental in the Giants victory, thus dethroning the Packers from their World Championship as their overall record stumbled to 15–2.

The Packers recorded a season high nine dropped passes. They also recorded a season high four turnovers in the game. The coaching staff of the Packers, in particular head coach Mike McCarthy waved off the Packers precise practice performance in the week leading up to the playoff game. The reason for the inefficient offensive performance from one of the league's most historically prolific offensive units is unknown, though the Packers' decision to rest their starters may have been costly to their players, as doing so tends to put players "out of rhythm". ..Quarterback Aaron Rodgers went a full three weeks without taking the field, and the offense dropped several crucial passes. The Packers also became the 3rd team to finish the regular season 15–1 and not reach the Super Bowl, and the first to not win a single playoff game."

Let’s put it this way, if the Eagles lose next week, I don’t think it will be due to rust. They will just have run into a good team that played better on that day: GB or Washington. The other factor could be health issues at QB.

That’s three weeks vs. one, which is essentially a standard NFL bye week.

Good teams are peaking at the end of a season.
Then they have to go against the best teams in their division - momentum counts for a lot.
Missing a final season game is not the same as a week 5, 7, 8 bye etc.
There's no strong indication resting an entire team for last game gives an edge - some of best teams lost to banged-up wild card teams

The edge is keeping key guys healthy.

Take a look at who played in the last two Super Bowls before making an argument that taking a week off is some sort of detriment.

Hint: it was the 2 #1 seeds (who got a bye) that were in them.

Completely missed today's game.
Assuming nothing of note occurred?

Is NE really going to win and lose the #1 pick??

Nabers set a franchise mark for receptions in a season and for now, passed Bowers in catches.
