OT: 2024 NY Giants Season Thread

Eli was a long ball thrower who couldn't throw long in the end because OL sucked.
NYGs didn't need to get rid of him but Mara is in capable of pushing back on staff.
Then NYGs got desperate and took Jones way too high.

Mara wanted to keep Saquon but he wilted before his staff - who got rid of Saquon and Kept Jones.
Now Jones is gone and Saquon is on verge of NFL season rush record (he is already over 2000).
In 2025 the NYGs will be 100 years old since a Mara founded them.
The current Mara is too much of a cupcake and does silly things he doesn't want to do. and NYGs all the worse for it

Eli when he had time to pass

What does any of this have to do with today’s NYG?

Giants now 4th
Going to have to Trade up and give away picks

Giants could easily win next week and drop to 6-7-8th ???
Trading up would be a huge mistake IMO for these QB’s. Last years maybe but this years aren’t even rated in the top 10. That is my fear as Schoen is so desperate for a QB. It’s gonna take a lot to move up. Next years first plus maybe a third this year and other pick next year on top of the first. Not worth it.
If they win next week and teams some others lose they can pick 9th. A 13 loss team picking 9th is crazy.

If they stay at #4 trading up would be insane. If they insist on a QB it's highly likely either Ward or Sanders would be available. The cost to move up doesn't justify the move. If they are both gone, go to Plan B.

What kind of a fan are you if you root for your team to lose? The coaches and players are playing for their jobs. A draft pick is not guaranteed to succeed. Ask the Jets.

I mean, a fan. You're allowed to see the long term interests as more important than a win that barely even offers short term gains.

Think back to last year. The Giants went 3-3 with Tommy Cutlets at QB. It was fun. Would you trade that for Jayden Daniels and, if you wouldn't, someone might ask what kind of fan you are? It ain't simple, and different fans could have different beliefs.

The best thing that comes from this is that all the fans who assure us that a team is tanking are revealed as knowing nothing.

During the end of the game Sunday...when the Giants had made another play to ensure the win...the camera panned to the crowd cheering and focused on a young boy who was smiling and clapping and all excited about the fact that his team was winning. My wife turned to me and said "THAT'S why it's good for the Giants to win the game. That's why you don't root for your team to lose. "

If the Giants win again this week (Philly likely to sit starters), they could fall back as far as the 9th pick next year.

Interesting, I saw the same thing and thought: Good for that kid, enjoy.

But, for me, I would've preferred the Giants to lose.

I understand why some Giants fans wanted them to lose.
I sorta wanted them to as well. But I couldn't root against them. I just couldn't.

Very bad teams do nothing right.
NYGs trying to lose would not have worked anyway
Bad teams have well worn patterns .

When seasons start they lose.
At seasons end when the draft looks good they win (Jets also did it a few years ago)
When they get a top draft spot they waste it (Jones/Wilson).
When they get a top player they wreck him (Darnold)
If a player has playmaker ability they trade him (Adams, Saquon, McKinney, Williams - 9 sacks so far in Seattle) and others.

The Mara's are nice people but maybe too nice.
I understand you want to let people do there jobs
The hard knocks scene where you can see Mara wanted to keep Saquon was telling.
Even if Joe Schoen trades Saquon it should be over strenuous objections.
Mara just grabbed his ankles.

An owner's Smith and Wesson beats a GM's four aces when its called for

If that young boy understood the Giants dropped to the #4 pick he would have been crying and booing

Because the current bunch stinks and it’s better to have a higher draft pick
Not as often as you'd think. I'm thinking of Mahomes, Brady, Marino.
And a pretty good list of those high draft pick quarterbacks that failed.

Tom Brady lost two SBs to NYGs because of a Giants pass rush in his face all night - most QBs wilt under that.
Shedeur has has same thing allll season long - nobody hangs-in and takes a beating like SS.
Col = 134th for running 120 and 124th for sacks allowed - defense just pass rushes every play
Despite that horro show, SS has 4134 yds passing with 37 TDs to 10 INTs - miracle numbers considering how awful Col rush/block was .
Cam had a relative picnic at Miami

Heard an interesting scenario.
What if the Giants still get Sanders (if they want him) at #4?

Maybe SS pulls an Eli Manning and let it be known he won’t play in Cleveland (would you blame him?) or Tennessee.
Instead of trading up like last time, Sanders could drop to the Giants at #4.

With all the bad press over the Watson contract and subsequent fiasco, could the Browns really call his bluff and risk taking SS and the ensuing conversation about how awful it would be to play in Cleveland?

A lot of them sacks he takes on his own. The Giants O line gives up a lot of sacks, drafting a QB that takes a lot is not what I want. Colorado's offense was designed QB friendly. His dad I'm sure did this to bring up his stats. I'm not a fan of Sanders or Ward tbh if the Giants are drafting that high. I would prefer Ward though. I can't stand Sanders sense of entitlement.
Dane Burgler from The Athletic said a AFC scout said that feels bad for teams needing a QB out of this years group.
No blue chip QB prospects out there. The Giants have holes all over. I hope they go BPA or even trade back a few spots.

I just look at the QB play. I know a lot of people don't like the Sanders' vibe but that's not as predictable in pros. Sanders is a fighter who plays in a bowl he could skip. He's a tough kid who took a lot of dirty hits. He does have Deion's 90s flash which seens dated to me but I just watch the game

He throws far and flat and that's rare. Lots of QBs can throw far when they throw high - ropes are tough. People knock him for "holding the ball" but that takes guts when you have no OL or run game. Defenses just worry about the pass and its harder to scope a clean strike.

Mel Kiper has him at #1 and I'm not a fan of the draft gurus per se but lots of experts will have Sanders as #1 pick. Dwayne Haskins had 50 TDs his last year at OSU and a lot of people thought he was a great pick at #1 but big stats at OSU are relatively easy. Cam might be good but Sanders has the proven rough road behind him. 74% accuracy is nuts considering the guys in his face. He lead all QBs in 2023

I would take sanders. He is well prepared for the NFL. Daddy won’t let him be a bust

I don't know specific scenarios but I do know QBs get wrecked at certain places. The Jets suck, the Colts ruined Luck's career, Caleb Williams looks like he wants to retire already at Chicago. I'm sure Deion will drop the hammer on some bad teams. They will know in advance they will have trouble taking son.

Its pretty weak to make Sanders the reason for all his sacks when Colorado couldn't run either - 134th in nation.
Col OL did stink for Run/Pass both years.

Its hard to get good OL (especially now with NIL) and Col had a few upgrades targeted but al the "Prime is leaving for NFL" waved players away. Shedeur does hold the ball but that's because he's a pocket passer and not a shoot or scoot QB. Shedeur is still looking to make a pass instead of bolting like a startled deer

It may be a meaningful observation and it may not be, but it's the opinion of single, former scout for the Jets. So if Sanders is pegged to go and then does go as a top pick, there are multiple scouts still employed by NFL teams who see it differently. As far as my opinion, I have no idea.

Some scouts don't even have him as a first rounder. Like one scout said if his last name was different he wouldn't even be considered in round one. Giants need a QB no doubt but they need a ton of things. I hope they go BPA

Eli would not have been drafted number 1 if his last name wasn’t manning

See the CFB title winners all lost?
So much for sitting bye weekends out - looking at you Philly.

They sat a little longer than a week in some cases. A bunch of NFL teams are sitting guys this week - it’s more the rule than the exception.

Praying the eagles get rusty and somehow don’t play well in their first game. Can’t stand them. Won’t happen though as they get all the breaks it seems and always stay healthy.

Now that’s funny. Stayed healthy last year? Please. Maybe you make your own breaks by drafting wisely on the OL and developing guys or being brutally honest about mistakes during the previous year and making the necessary changes to address them. I really try to like Giants fans but some of you make it impossible. 😂

Tour de France riders get 2 days in a month off.
The riders go bike for 3-4 hours anyway because when they take time off their bodies begin to shutdown to heal.
That rest backfires on them so they have to ride anyway.

Back when Ellerson coached Army he had the idea to work players hard in early week and slack off at end of the week.
By game day they looked awful - like they were running in honey with steel toe work boots.
"Resting" before games can be a roll of the dice and an injured player can benefit but others might not

Again, all NFL teams do it. Are we going to go after Mahomes and Stafford too? I think if it’s a long period you have an argument, but one week is no big deal.
