OT: 2024 NY Giants Season Thread

Inside NY Giants' decade of despair: How they got here, and this regime's fight to survive

No mention of NYG's OL as it tanked after Super Bowls.
The OL was why Eli was off - he was a long ball thrower who had zero time.
Slants to OBL were main pass .
Giants still have no OL - the game got more athletic with smaller/faster players but NYGs kept drafting big mountains who couldn't move. Hernandez and Flowers were like telephone polls flashing by DLs peripheral vision as they crashed into pocket.
Eli sucked as a short passer in his first year - he hit his stride years later when he had big WRs like Plaxico (most underrated NYG WR)

Its amazing how good those guys were

6' 7" 340 lbs but cant move (Flowers, Hernandez et al - NYGs = size over athletic ability) .

Burn it all down. I'm now in the boat of the GM has to go as well; he's assembled a collection of rejects. We can't even complete a forward pass in 8 tries. Have the commissioner pick our GM again, because it's obvious the Mara family's clueless trait is rearing its ugly head again.

The supposedly fixed OL is a disaster. Losing Thomas hurts, but 1 player doesn't account for this.

The commissioner never picked the Giants GM.

Time for Bill B to be coach and GM? Even he may be better than the current clown GM and HC.

Saquon now with 1623 yds in 13 games and 4 to go (with NYGs last game)
2,105 is single season rush record (Dickerson)
482 yds needed for record - 121 a game - thats a lot of yds still but he might get 200 vs NYGs with Dexter out.
Saquon had 435 for first 4 games

I kinda understood rolling the dice on Jones but giving up Saquon seemed like a personal issue for GM

Barkley would have nowhere near that yardage had he stayed with the Giants. Unfortunately for Giants fans philthadelphia is a near perfect fit for him.

True - and I''m happy for him for the little that's worth.
But he was still the face of the NYGs and fav of the owner - who didn't want to lose him.
How many GMs would tell an owner his fav player is going to a rival after Jones is kept?
Saquon wouldn't have the yards with NYGs but the talent was still there.
Talent was never an issue with SB - it was the injury prone trend - a trend Jones also had
Just a bad deal from GM - I wont miss him

I believe this ultimately will be why schoen is canned

"Ward brings plenty of experience and a dual-threat skill set to New York."

Dual threats vanish in playoffs vs good defenses.
Lamar Jackson 2x MVP
Flutie, Kaepernick, Kordell, Cunningham, Newton, Vick and others are great Sept-Dec and then the balloon pops

Cunningham got better when he was older and more experienced with the Vikings - I think he actually learned how to read some defenses at that point. That said, he was incredible to watch earlier in his career too, but as you said, Joe Gibbs would throw Wilbur Marshall at him as a spy and the bubble would pop.

I don't think any of these QB's are worth top 10 picks tbh. None of them are rated that high. I do like Ward more then Sanders though. I don't want Sanders at all and would be pissed with that pick. I'm hoping they sign a bridge QB for next year and not force the pick. So many hole with this team
Good lengthy article in Sunday's Ledger about the QB prospects and their pluses/minuses. Basically, the scouts/execs interviewed had your take - less than enthusiastic about any of them.

Cunningham was amazing - legs and arm like Gumby - he was a Giant killer.
But the do-it-all dual threat QBs are easier to control with the top defenses.
Even top RBs tend to get stuffed in Super Bowl
Even Rice only had 59 yards on 20 carries for Ravens against 49ers.
Payton had 61 yds on 22 carries.
Pacheco is one of the few RBs who had a good SB

He’s going back to George Young and it worked well.

Being a Giants fan for over 65 years I knew where he was going.
Once again Pete Roselle never selected or forced the Giants to hire George Young.
What Roselle did was give Wellington Mara and Tim Mara a list of 5 candidates who
they might opt for. After a battle between the 2 they selected , thankfully, George Young.

Guess it depends on how you define "dual threat" but Mahomes is absolutely a mobile QB. Just about every QB in the league is these days.

Barkley would have nowhere near that yardage had he stayed with the Giants. Unfortunately for Giants fans philthadelphia is a near perfect fit for him.
And the Giants would still suck with Barkley. Maybe a little less then they currently do, but Barkley does not make the Giants a good team.

After 6 years of Daniel Jones, I'm willing to settle for a dual threat QB who may only be great in the regular season.
Sacrifice we'll just have to live with.

Lamar is 2x MVP
Keepernick made a Super Bowl
Kordell Stewart wasn't an actual "dual threat" (he was mediocre at both).
Cunningham was a 4x Pro Bowler
Cam Newton literally won a Super Bowl
Michael Vick made the playoffs in 2 of his first 4 years in the league.

I'll throw in Josh Allen for a "dual threat who fails in the playoffs".
And Jalen Hurts who is in his way to his 4th straight playoffs since becoming a starter.

Want to pass on Cam Ward then make a case.
Using "dual threats are only good in the regular season" as a basis seems a little lacking.

Well, then you have to make a case of surrounding them with a better roster.

My post would have lost its witty edge if I explained it all out. I directed that one at us old timer Giants fans, which there are quite a few of us here.
