OT: 2024 NY Jets Season Thread

Smart to make it official and begin the search now. If only someone else were making the hiring decision.

I never thought Rogers would work.
Jets have a long running habit of getting big stars on their last legs after their glory teams let them go.

Did 69 really happen or was it filmed on a soundstage like the moon landing? :)
Yes. Unfortunately, that was back in my betting days. I lost everything I had won on the first two Super Bowls thanks to the Green Bay Packers. Some of my buds back then who also lost on the Colts always maintained that the game was fixed.

I once saw a sports documentary on the Jets and Super Bowl 3. It covered the Jets season leading up to the game. There was a funny segment regarding an NYC detective and gambling on the 1968 AFL championship game between the Jets and Oakland Raiders . The night before the game, this detective was out on the town on the upper East Side of NYC. About 2:00 AM he was walking past some high end bar and saw Joe Namath walk out of the bar with an attractive blond and an open bottle of scotch. Later that morning, the guy called his bookie and put a very large bet on the Raiders to win the game. The Jets and Namath won the championship game 27-23 much to his dismay.

I don't think we fully grasped the stamina of the athletes of earlier eras.

Again, just an absolutely terribly coached team. The amount of idiotic, mindless penalties on critical 3rd and 4th downs cost them the game. Can a RB coach please teach the very talented Breece Hall how to carry a football, so he doesn’t fumble? Woody Johnson, please sell the team!

And Roger’s throws everyone under the bus.

He’s either correct and everything culturally with the team is broken or he’s just trying to save his legacy and is trying to get out the door.

Why not both?

If it wasn’t the Jets I would find a point to argue against this but alas this is the most likely…

It’s amazing to me that a team like the commanders can reset so quickly and compete. Certainly Jayden Daniels at QB helps, but it’s not like Aaron Rodgers, even on the back end of his career, is a pushover.

I had such high hopes for Joe Douglas. He had some decent draft picks, but also wasted a lot of first rounders. I also think there was an overreliance on free agency for fixing an offensive line that needed to be drafted and built.

There was a lot of evidence that Rodgers had begun the inevitable age-related decline all athletes go through while he was still in Green Bay.

To think Rodgers recovering from a major injury and being two years older was somehow going reverse that was unrealistic.

As far as the organization goes, when you look at every negative thing good teams DON’T do, there is evidence of the Jets doing them.

Don’t fall in love with a player’s measurable/workouts and overlook the tape. Zac Wilson, Gholston, and many others.

Don’t throw big money at positions like running back. Bell

Don’t have an owner who meddles with the team.

Don’t lose focus that it doesn’t matter how good the rest of the team is, only teams with decent to very good offensive/defensive lines are successful.

Etc.
