OT: 2024 NY Mets Season Thread

you realize he was just a smidge of that slide being illegal. if his hand had come off the base, it would have been called. And Hoskins history of these things are what got McNeil pissed.
The reality is- the slide is legal by the book- he started before the base, he did not come off the base, he did not go outside of the basepath nd he did not go spikes up or raise himself up.
But...it was intentional and dirty as F-k...he should be eating dirt today

I know MLB has changed a number of rules in an attempt to avoid injuries, but McNeil's multi minute carrying on looked ridiculous to someone on the outside with zero fandom ties to the Mets, Brewers, Phillies, or Yankees.

Almost everything you wrote is wrong.
McNeil wasn't even trying to make a double play- and yes, it was bang bang. Unless you may not have ever played sports yourself. How was he supposed to move his foot? And he dropped the ball and couldnt budge his leg because the runner was rolling up on it.

It was a legal but dirty play. If he comes in the next time, I do the same as the 2B or SS with a very low throw toward 1B...

And I played 2b/SS my entire life in the days where you knew these guys were coming in...and I sort of loved those plays. But in today's game- you don't expect it so you are no longer playing defense in a way that you are prepared for it.

This team is incredibly soft.
Pete is fake tonight guy. Lindor is all smiles. Nimmo plays hard but not a tough guy. McNeil is a clown.

Agree to a point...I was very critical until they signed JD...

It showed me something- they did a good job of filling in the roster with a bunch of professional type players so the team will usually be pretty decent. The pitching- they signed a couple of starters that can be either- good or a miss. And it didnt cost much and these guys are all on short term.
We did not deplete our minors to make a trade or sign guys that would have cost picks.

I saw the off season a "punt" and a fear of losing Pete because of it.

The JD signing did two things- made our team much better than just his bat alone. You take his stats to our team last year and we are well into 90 wins. But besides his protection of Pete and his knowledge he can share- his signing is a show to Pete- that while we are going to be smart for the future- we will not be afraid of the now.
