Hope Senga is sharp and like he looked in his one start earlier this season. Not sure I love this idea overall, seems a little too high risk for a team with great mojo right now. Worst case he's very rusty in a raucous environment and starts us out in a hole.

Mendoza has pushed the right buttons all season, so if he's good with this obviously you need to trust him.
I share your concern. In the regular season he'd get at least one rehab game, probably two. Obviously that is a luxury that is not now available.

I guess what do we have to lose…he’s not going to pitch more than an inning. Wonder what his stats are like against the Phillies.
My gut says we get 4innings out of him. No way the Mets brain trust is pulling Senga out of hibernation for 1 iffy inning. He must have looked pretty damn good. LFGM!

I would be shocked if he goes more than two. Four innings would be 50 to 55 pitches or maybe 60. No way.

Has anyone seen Jeff McNeil since he’s been injured ?

I haven’t seen him in the dugout or anywhere.

I’m surprised given how long he’s been with the team and given it’s only a broken hand injury.
This was addition by subtraction even though he was hitting better 2nd half of year. I would not be surprised if he isn't a Met next year.

Pitching by committee in the first game of a 7 game series is recipe to be down 0-1.

Pitching by committee in general, against the number 1 starter of any team anytime will get you beat

Not many good options when you play 8 games in the 8 days before the first game of a 7 game series.

I think the use of Senga is a calculated gamble, with the hope that he will be a fully stretched-out ace, just in time for the WS.

The key word in the above paragraph is "hope".

So are you saying forget senga and go to magill or Peterson today?
In any playoff sport, management has competing objectives. On the one hand, it's survive and advance, whatever it takes. But on the other hand, the goal is to win it ALL, which means you have to play the long game.

IMO, using Senga today is a calculated risk re the first objective, to increase your chances for the second.

In Game 1 (not Gm 5), opting for him over your 5th starter (I wrote off Peterson in the 9th), etc. I think it’s worth the gamble. Let’s roll!

BTW- Lindor and Alonso are getting very deserved credit for getting us here- but do either moment happen without Nimmo. He has gotten lost in the heroics.

Random thoughts during yesterday’s off-day. How many helmets can Winker break, before he needs to borrow one? Does JD have enough shoes, or is he desperately waiting on another shipment? 😉

Given the way at least one of his former Brewer teammates reacted to him, I'm wondering whether Winker's act eventually wears thin in the clubhouse.
