Can I see a little Pete Rose - Ray Fosse action there please! If that isn't blocking the plate under these new pussyball rules, what is?

Mendoza's beef was that the catcher was clearly standing on the plate without the ball. Intuitively, that would not be blocking the plate - Alonso did have access to the front of the plate. However, the league had previously stated that standing on the plate does constitute blocking the plate.

Mets sign veteran infielder Mike Brousseau to a minor league contract. If the name sounds familiar, it is because in the deciding fifth game of the 2020 ALDS while playing for the Rays, Mike Brousseau hit an 8th inning HR to beat the Yankees.

Let us root for him for that reason alone.

By the definition of the rule that MLB sent out this Spring that was definitely blocking the plate but when you make rules confusing you get this. It shouldn't have even come down to that though.

Looks like Marco Vargas came back from injury and promptly got re-injured. Saul Garcia is back.

Exactly my point.

The whole play was just a mess- it was even just a freak thing that his hand bounced up when it did. Otherwise, he was safe as it gets. And all of us are happy and most likely saying we are happy he slide head first so his hand could get the closest part of the plate

Question for the board: should Pete be safe since the catch block the base before catching the ball? I see two problems. One Lidor blocked the base and the runner was awarded the base. Second, to avoid collisions at home, the catcher can't block any part of the plate until he has received the ball. The catcher was standing on home plate while waiting to catch the ball

Yes per the memo that MLB sent out to teams that was a blocking/interference with the plate and should have been called safe.

I just don't see it happening with Baty. Might be timre to develop soneone else for that position. If you're playing a power position yet don't show much in the way of power, you sure need to be a .300 type hitter. I don't see him as either.

Baseball is such a weird game. I was ready to butcher them when Pete failed to advance the runner on 2nd bottom 10 and some no name pitcher gave up a leadoff double top 11. Great resilience and very very happy for Lindor to have a great game. Even his postgame he seems so likeable and has a great knowledge of the game, happy for him to get the winning double.

he just came out of college last year...that is a fast run to the show
No it ain't. He's almost 25.

If anything, it shows that he spent a lot of time in college or in high school or in prep programs or whatever.

I'm interested in seeing how he does. But he doesn't strike me as a phenom or real deal can't miss prospect.

But folks may draw their own conclusions.

I'd be happy if he turned out to be a Dave Magadan type

He was a college reliever and they built him into a starter over the last few years so not much time to get a lot of hype or recognition but he's still a top 100 prospect in the league. Theoretically they saw his potential and the best could be ahead of him, that's the hopeful scenario.

No he didn't. We drafted him in 2021 so this is his 4th year in professional baseball. He has only logged 175 IP total in the minors so in that realm he did move kind of quick. As someone mentioned he was a RP at Florida and we turned him back into a SP.

He'll be on an innings limit this year so Mets might go to a 6 man rotation depending. Hopefully Senga back in by ASB as well.

His metrics since last year rank as high as anyone but he's also not on the level of someone like Paul Skenes. His FB is a grade A pitch and he has crazy good K-BB% ratios. He's going to be really fun to watch.

Must you be such a Debbie Downer? For someone to move through the system that fast, at any age tells me something clicked. I'll be excited and very interested in seeing this "kid".
I’m not sure I’m that, but I’d take it over the mercurial gesticulators who often bounce all over the place here.

There’s so many top 100 lists now that it almost doesn’t matter. Everyone has a list. And I’m sure he’s not on all of them. Not that a top 100 list could be a guarantee of anything anyway.

Yeah- I was wrong but what happened is that there is another Christian Scott that played for Tennessee in sport reference- and I didn't really look at the stats and realize this guy was an OF and played until 2023 in college. And it threw me more off because it was talking about the Christian Scott on the Met's in the notes

the other christian Scott

though, he threw all of 3 innings in 2021 so he has had 2 full years and this is really his 3rd. That is still pretty good. Just wishing the kid well. We can use it

Jonah Tong with his first Brooklyn start and he throws another 5 without allowing an ER. That's 0 ER all year now at 2 levels. The helium on him is crazy. Nick Morabito continues to thrive at St. Lucie so hopefully he gets a bump soon to Brooklyn. Jesus Baez is one to watch as well. Big time statcast numbers so you'll hear more and more about him. Colin Houck heating up a bit which is good.

Quintana looking like he’s never pitched before after being handed a 3-0 lead. Pretty awful start
