The Borgata is nice, but the Taj was the best in AC, IMO. PARX is hideous, but it has a great poker room and it's close, which is all that matters, since I go, I play poker non-stop for as long I have clearance for, and I drive home (and their snack bar makes awesome cheesesteaks). They also have my favorite game, which isn't played too many places - the $6-$12 high/low Omaha/Stud combo (they alternate every half hour and there's a half kill to $10-$20). I get tired of no-limit Hold-em which has killed limit poker games, mostly.

There is no poker room anymore at Parx. They put slots in that room. I guess they really didn't make much money there, even though it was packed many days and nights.

Not sure if they are eventually going to put poker back in the other building where it started. The 6 handed poker is not a game where many people want to play, so I guess that is why they closed the poker room.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Tried to go a few weeks ago before the casinos were open thinking it would be quiet. Was a disaster, streets littered with homeless people, drug addicts, and thugs. Everything was boarded up as well. My wife wouldn't even get out of the car, we just turned around and went home.

There are casino's in Manhattan ?

They closed the PARX-East poker room where the racing area is and moved it into the main casino about a year ago. Have probably played at least every 2 weeks there since last summer, when I started gearing down a little at work in anticipation of retirement - last time I played was in mid-February, as I was starting to get concerned about COVID (so I skipped going on 3/1 and we went into quarantine on 3/3).

It's a good poker room and probably about the same size as the old one (probably slightly smaller than Borgata's) and they still have the "models as servers" model, so the cocktail waitresses are all smokin'.

You can't wonder why kids leave NJ when even supposed fans crap all over everything about the state.

Does AC have dicey areas? Yes
Does every city in America (esp ones with casinos) have dicey areas? Yes

If you're afraid to park at a garage and go into the Borgata you have other problems.

EVERY vacation spot the world over and particularly in the US is suffering right now for obvious reasons.

Before COVID AC Casinos had a big revenue increase. They finally got it to the right number of casinos.
Bunch of old Gramps that has criticism for everything and anything especially if it’s not cheap.

We go to Mt. Airy in the Poconos, about an hour from the house. When I was much younger, use to go to AC couple of times of month. NJ should open one in the Meadowlands, would be a gold mine but South Jersey politicians wouldn't allow that and let surrounding states take the business.

Has anyone been lately? What a friggin mess! My wife and I went yesterday just to get out and I have to say for someone like myself who is very laid back and unsafe I felt very unsafe and it was the middle of the day. Garbage everywhere and the Bally’s casino we parked at just seemed very dirty. Out on the boardwalk within 5 minutes we see a drunk guy verbally assaulting a young, black policeman and making a loud scene His friends had to hold him back because it looked like he wanted to fight the cop. He was the only cop I saw on the boardwalk. After 30 minutes of just feeling like I was strolling through a war zone we paid our $10 to park and left
I was always a supporter of what could be in AC but they have fallen dramatically since I was there last in January

Wife and I went couple weeks ago snd it was BAD. We are at Ruth Chris and a homeless man kept verbally assaulting guests from the side walk. After 15 minutes, several police officers escorted him away.... Extremely uncomfortable and scary for a bit.

Walked on the boardwalk after and just dirty and questionable people everywhere.

There were only $25 blackjack tables at Hard Rock so went over Oceans. It wasn’t bad there and found $15.00 tables.

Overall, very depressing. Glad Borgotta has finally opened again. The only casino worth visiting moving forward.

Riding to AC tomorrow by bicycle. My third trip in a month. Scary as always in town but South of the Convention on the Boardwalk is night and day

if you had gone to White House subs it would have been all worth it.

I refuse to fight traffic to go to AC and be disgusted.

Plenty of nice places that are fun and want to have us there.

I thought your op on this was about the poker room closing before COVID, when they closed PARX East and reopened in the main casino. I didn't realize PARX had reopened, recently, since there's no way I'd be going to any casino now. So I checked out the website and yes, they temporarily put slots in, but they intend to reopen the poker room once this all subsides.

Due to the nature of the game of poker, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has mandated that poker rooms in the state cannot be a part of the initial reopening. Given that, Parx has decided to temporarily repurpose the poker room space for additional slot machines in order to space out casino guests as much as possible. Parx remains committed to our poker room and fully intends to reopen our poker room once it is permitted and safe for our patrons and employees.

I never made it to PARX for the 6/12 OE game even though it’s been on my mind to for years. I hope I didn’t miss the last opportunity.

It's a really good, live game. Most days there's 1 table by 10 am, then a second by 2-3 pm and both usually go well into the evening and on weekends there's sometimes 3 tables. In addition, they have a $10-20 "Big O/Superstud" game with a $20-$30 kill - it's 5 carded Omaha hi/lo for 30 minutes and then "9-card" hi/lo stud for 30 minutes, where everyone gets 4 cards down and 1 up, then there are bets and then everyone discards two down cards before the 2nd up card. That game gets crazy and has better players, so I tend to stick with the 6/12 OE game (nice guys, mostly regulars and many are not that good - I win probably 60-70% of my visits at that game). I'm sure PARX will be back with poker once we have vaccines.

I was in Atlantic City July 29-31. The National Sports Collectors Convention was scheduled to take place at the AC Convention Center July 29-August 2. I booked a room at Bally's at a great price last year. I decided to keep the reservation and head to AC even though the show was postponed due to the pandemic.

True, AC isn't for everyone right now. Some shady characters here and there. However, I never felt my safety was endangered. I had wonderful outdoor dinners at Harry's Oyster Bar on Wednesday and Dock's Oyster House on Friday. On Thursday, I made a short drive for lunch/dinner at The Anchorage in Somers Point.

The most frustrating part of my AC excursion was the fact you can't drink and gamble at the same time. I like to enjoy a few beverages while gambling. :ThumbsUp:Beer: Of course, masks are currently mandatory, so it took some joy out of my usual gaming experience.

Be careful in AC, it is a wasteland of crime.

Friend was quite 'under the weather' after a night of craps. He went to bar for a nightcap and started a conversation with a 'lady' also at the bar.
Things progressed along and he was arrested for asking the 'lady' for comfort. She turned out to be an undercover NJSP Trooper.

Friend pled Not Guilty and the Trooper arrived in her SP Uniform. Friend's defense was "Your honor, obviously I was too drunk to know what I was doing, look at her." Judge not amused; "Guilty".

I'm going to stick up for Atlantic City somewhat, since I live here most of the time. I don't dispute most of what is said upthread; the city is not good in the casino areas, and there are obviously tons of problems.

However:

South of "the monument" (Albany Avenue) is a different story; it's a functional urban beach town. I feel just as safe in my Chelsea neighborhood house as I do at my place in Washington TWP, Gloucester County. The old cliche, "I could leave my doors unlocked" applies. Last night I took a long walk through the neighborhoods and encountered porch after porch of nice people hanging out, laughing, drinking, and doing what people do in beach towns.

I can walk from my house to shops and restaurants (including a new one, Ryffe's, opened just when the Covid thing started, that I still haven't tried yet). Nobody ever really bothers anybody else. And every day during the summer there are day-trippers parking and unloading beach gear for a nice day on a tag-free beach. So there are plenty of people still coming here who don't think it's the disaster many of you think it is.

Maybe it's because I'm not a NJ native, but I don't see the point of bashing this place without being objective about it.

Just thought I'd add my perspective (and trying to balance out statements like "Be careful in AC, it's a wasteland of crime.")

Is your stand still open for the season? I’m making a 2 day trip on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Darn, I'm sorry to say that we closed after Labor Day this year. It just isn't profitable in September, we learned (even in a normal year). Sorry we missed you, my friend...

I understand. I missed being able to go to AC this summer and hitting all the good spots outside of the casinos. Better luck to you and all the businesses in 2021.

Developers really need to take over and turn it into a family resort like Ocean City, MD or Myrtle Beach.
Maybe that's the plan.. let it descend to rediculous levels.. drive down real estate so low they can go in an overbid and people will sell.. have state take over.. do sweeping public domain seizures and start over on the whole thing... no slums... very limited low income housing.. future protest marches saying "black people used to live here"...

Glad to hear the White House is still doing it. Love their subs. It's all in the bread and those rolls are the best.
It is ALWAYS in the bread. The best tasting ingredients in any bread encased unit ,will not be considered good, if the bread is not.Years ago ,after many years of not having one,I had an italian hot dog at jimmy Buffs in irvington. The bread was terrible. At 14th ave it was great BACK IN THE DAY. They were using Colandras bread at the time. Don't know what they were using in Irvington. BUT,it was crappy.

My college roommate used to bring Colandras bread back every weekend. Looked forward to that hard crust bread. As you know, the quality of the bread was because of the quality of the water, which was because Newark was home to 5 breweries (or was it more?).

South of Albany? That's like 1/4 of the city. It may be okay compare to the disaster of the rest of AC, but come on. Still plenty of run down and vacant buildings, crime, and prostitution going on, even into Ventnor now. I really don't know what the solution is. It may be a lost cause.

Plenty of nice places that are fun and want to have us there.

If you stay in the AC Marina, which is where the Borgata and Harrahs are, you can avoid the bad section altogether. Harrahs has reasonably priced rooms.

Paying for a hotel room in AC ?

What is world would anyone allow the casino to 'dis' them like that ?

It's like people telling me that colleges make you pay tuition and room and board ? I've never heard of something so egregious.........

Heck, my last Son's University PAID him to attend and made him take a nice well paying job for TEN YEARS.

Used to go to the Jersey Shore Beaches for vacation (mainly Ocean City) and then go to Atlantic City for a day trip (at the time liked the Golden Nugget/had a good Steak Restaurant with an English Beefeater stature out front).

As a kid, my parents would always take us to Ocean City NJ for our summer vacation.

Haven't been back to AC for about 10 to 15 years. Shore vacations are to Myrtle Beach or Florida.

Will go to Las Vegas every couple of years mainly for the entertainment and restaurants.

Three Rivers Casino opened in Pittsburgh in 2009 (full service including slots/table games and now sports book).

HAIL TO PITT!!!!
