OT - Canadian HS hoopster said he was 17, actually 30

who was the kid from Toronto that liked Rutgers. I tend to remember him from 3-4 years ago as a tall kid who decided to go to prep school. he was like 19 before joining a college team. I think his main issue was his AAU handler.

Was that Ro Russell from the Grassroots Canada AAU program.
I seem to remember him handling a lot of Canadian players looking into playing in the US.

Wasn't Etou 30?

Sorry . That was wrong, but as I recall Deadspin put a piece out there questioning his true age

The giveaway should have been when the schools recruiting him went to pay off his dad/uncle they were both in their 80's.

Question: Is there a rule, against playing College ball after a certain age? I didn't think it mattered as long as you were enrolled, and had years of eligibility...

Didn't we had a lacrosse player that served to stints in armed forces.
I think he like 24-26 years old

Remember, similar to the exchange rate, a 29-year-old Canadian is 17 years old U.S.

No age limit in college but you have 5 years to play 4 and the clock starts running on day 1.

However in NJ there is an age limit - I believe you cant turn 19 before the season starts.

The incident reminds me of the scene in the movie "Hall Pass" where Owen Wilson and Jason Sudekis are reminiscing:

"Its like that time we dominated in JV basketball"
"Yea - senior year".

Andrew Gaze was 24 in 1989 when he played for Seton Hall. He only played 1 season of college ball.

He may be able to play college hoops, but Dicky V. will never call him a Diaper Dandy.

Definition of a "hired gun." A few days after losing to Michigan in the Finals he was on a plane back to Australia. I don't think he ever graduated from Seton Hall.

Graduate? Gaze was an excellent pro player in Australia for several years before going to Seton Hall--even played in the 1984 Olympics at 18. Played only the one season at SHU, and maybe he went to a class or two, probably not. Gone as soon as the last game was over, and on to the Australian sports hall of fame. Parts of two seasons in the NBA and back Down Under. Would assume BB is played in the spring and summer there, since their seasons are reversed, so maybe he didn't lose any time in Australia's league by trying out the NBA.

He is still on the team. His name is Pat McCabe and he is an Army Ranger. Bad ass dude.
