Actually surprised they got this done so quickly, good for them; backed up the Brinks truck for him, 8 years, $72 million.

8 million dollars for a lightning bottle season is crazy. That basketball side is gotta be upset cuz that 8 million could go to NIL for a program who actually has championship
It can’t go to NIL. It’s university funds.
Oh ok but still, 8 million for Indiana is still crazy. You don’t have the resources to bang with the big dogs in that conference. 8 mil for 6-6 seasons is a bad investment. I would let him walk. Know your role.

Still no. That’s not NIL.
It’s revenue sharing and that revenue is what pays for the 8M/yr for a coach. That’s money that can partly be used to pay players up to that 20M plus revenue sharing cap.

If it’s used on a coach then you have to find it from other places in the budget or new revenue sources.

Also I’m not certain that it won’t be considered NIL from the school as well.

He’ll be a bust for the simple fact they don’t have a glorious Fieldhouse and towering golden statue of him to attract recruits, ain’t that right Pollyanna Al of La Mancha?

They spent $86M to upgrade their football facilities. They aren’t lacking for anything.

Football has economics of scale. Fill the stadium and you can support the entire athletic department. Full basketball arenas won’t support the entire athletic department. It’s money well spent.

I posted about that when you mentioned it in another thread. They’re old upgrades in that number. It’s like saying we spent 100M upgrading facilities when we expanded the stadium.

That figure sounds like they were old upgrades in 2009 and 2018 that totaled 86 million and they’ve done some exploration into further renovations of the stadium.

From the article in the student newspaper last summer.

Indiana Athletics has begun to examine potential opportunities for upgrades to Memorial Stadium, per a Monday afternoon press release.

According to the release, IU Athletics partnered with Nations Group — a professional services development firm — to examine areas of development for the stadium. While the project is merely entering an exploratory stage, IU Athletics plans to survey ticket buyers, fans, donors and more regarding methods to enhance the stadium experience.

Since Memorial Stadium became home to Indiana football in 1960, two major renovations have occurred. The first, in 2009, saw the completion of the North End Zone Student-Athlete Development Center, connecting the east and west stands.

Among the topics covered in the survey are a reimagined concourse, new social gathering spaces, upgraded concessions and restrooms, and a series of enhanced premium seating options and locations,” the release said.

Upgraded locker rooms, offices and strength and conditioning spaces concluded the overhaul, and in 2018, Indiana created the IU Excellence Academy in the south end of the stadium. The dual-purpose facility aimed to grant student-athletes improved medical, rehabilitation and nutrition resources while enhancing viewing for spectators with a new “bowl effect.”

The two renovations totaled $86 million, though it is currently unclear how much IU is prepared to spend on this project. According to the release, stakeholders will receive the aforementioned survey beginning Aug. 16.

Lots of people hate schiano , but he does come at a good price and is good value
Greg's expensive for the fans that expect greatness at discount pricing .
Greg isn't flashy a slow and steady in his approach to building a winner , but hasn't proved he can go past that to the elite level (yet).
As for Curt we'll see what's in the cards for the Hoosiers under him the next few years.
Schiano received his extension after one winning season and two bowl games in 4 years and I feel that was jumping the gun.

Cignetti received his based on his first year ,that's going great, but I feel it should take two great years to get the type of extension he received and like Greg should have just had his contract rolled over one year and had bonus clauses added for the wins and bowl appearances made
Indiana probably felt Curt might be upp for grabs and though he sounded like a lifer money montivates many moves so Indiana is paying him to stay and gambling he continues to prove he's worth every penny he's paid.
Schiano had a run this year that made his extension look horrible, last week gave hope it was a good deal and this week might make it look good again.

Hey- why don't you start a new thread and keep bumping it to the top like you did for Syracuse and Penn State---on a recruiting site no less, so recruits can take a look and see how much our fans admire the facilities of other teams. SMDH.

Al is long on bluster and gushing for other teams and short on facts.

They will pay it. IU has more money than people realize. Since they made cheating legal etc…😉

Also shows the difference between RU vs Indiana.

What do you mean?
HC Schiano went 6-6 in year 4 and got an extension despite still having 4 years on his contract.

If we were currently 10-0 and ranked #5 I'd imagine quite a few people would be screaming for another extension or raise even after just signing one.

These ADs and universities get played so easily by the agents and coaches.

Yep, and plus their SOS is ranked at 100 right now. That's just crazy money for a CF HC with 10 games of P4 experience.

I’m not arguing it’s being factual. You give the impression like they did some massive 86M renovation recently when it’s not true. It’s a false impression.

It’s like saying we spent 100M upgrading our football facilities….a decade plus ago.

I didn't give any impression as to timing. I said they did 86M in renovations. yes they did some in 2009 and some in 2018. but the bottomline is their facilities are really nice. End of Story.

Or the Florida State one.
Or like the one your boy Hobbs tried to coax out of us until we called him out for his extra marital affairs, and he bowed out under the guise of fake heart conditions

Mike’s one year in to his extension

Get back to me if he shits the bed in two years and gets canned

Until then, stick to fires

Don't have the resources? Evidently you don't know how much cash IU can get from boosters and one of the largest fan bases in the US. IU is top 13 in revenue but what the heck. I hear the boosters and the NIL foundations are raking in the cash right now. Winning means money especially when you have so many alumni

Alabama person says 6-6 season? I could have swore IU was 10 - 0 right now?

Cignetti was making 677k LAST year. When you add in Allen's payout Indiana does not appear to be profitable. I'm assuming this is how they are using B1G media payout increases but you could fund a department and cure a form of cancer with that kind of budget. Is there a children's hospital you can wave at from the stadium, and the kids can wave back at all the money?
