OT: Coughlin Out

On a separate note, I'm going to miss the camera panning from Eli's "Manning Face" when he screws up, over to that incredulous look that Coughlin wore so perfectly. It was a great one-two punch.

I was going to mention those looks in my post but it got too long. I don't know how many times I've seen Eli give that "Aw Shucks!" look after some football folly, and then Coughlin would be on the sideline with hands on hips his jaw dropped as he looked around for the gremlins, fairies, warlocks and space aliens who just messed up the play. Tom was good at looking like a shocked spectator lol

hes been great for the giants, but he's also due for a change now. Its not all on him, but some major issues were. Nothing wrong with mixing it up

As they said on Loudmouths he had no clue that Becham had three personal fouls on him. Needed to go.

I have nothing but respect for Tom Coughlin. He won 2 Super Bowls against two New England teams that were intimidating and dominant. The 1972 Miami dolphins owe the Giants and Tom Coughlin and big time thank you for keeping their record intact. He's a class act and I'm sad to see him go.

I'm a Jets fan and I think TC is a good man, class act and was a very good coach for the Giants.

Excellent coach. He had some really bad moments this year but he's been solid. It's time for him to retire and relax. He's earned it. No need to be in the cold at his age. He's done very well financially and I'm happy for him.

In fairness to the roster, they were in a ton of games and blew them at the end due to bad decision making and bad execution. Some of that has to fall on the coach.

The roster especially on Defense is a joke. How Reese got out of this unscathed is pretty amazing. Look at rounds 3-7 for the last 5 years and Reese has struck out on all picks.

Yeah, I agree, plus free agent signings have mostly been busts as well...

Both Coughlan and Eli share common ground during the Giants. Neither were impressive except for their Super Bowl runs. Without that 1st Super Bowl they both would have been gone long ago.

My thoughts exactly. I'll stop here before I say anything unkind.

While Coughlin had some input into the draft, he did not put the draft board together. Giants almost always draft to their board, as most teams do. If you don't like the talent evaluation team, then you better pray Reese and Ross (the guy behind the final draft board) go as well. Which would make most Giants fans happy!

Really stupid comment.

After a transition year in 2004 - over the next 8 years Giants never had a losing record and made the playoffs 6 times (including the 2 Championships). You may feel that this is unimpressive - but even without the Superbowls - a significant amount of HCs and QBs come and go in the NFL without a sniff of the playoffs.

It was only over the past 3 years that Coughlin tailed off. But the guy will be 70 - give me a break.

Besides the two Playoff runs there was nothing remarkable about his tenure there. He was almost fired twice and now your making excuses because he is 70?
If you want to make a case that he was a great playoff coach than I'd agree especially taking a 9-7 team and winning the Super Bowl against NE again.
But a record of 102-90 isn't steller and certainly not HOF worthy without those 2 playoff runs

You associated Coughlin and Eli with the term "unimpressive". Perhaps it takes being HOF worthy for you to be impressed.....in my book that's a shallow opinion.

Their regular seasons were unimpressive. You can't say they were great.
He was almost fired in 2006 and last year. Ownership wasn't even impressed with him.
