Yuck. They are squeezing most of them into 25 minute windows. So unless this is commercial free, which I very much doubt, that means the episodes are going to be severely edited. Expect plot holes.

A fun tradition. Not trying to take away from your original post here. There is a free streaming service. I think it is either Pluto or Tubi or both where on can stream all episodes. I have recently started watching as many episodes and have been really enjoying it.

Spur of the Moment could have been a Top 20 episode had the director not given away too much in the beginning.

All of the episodes are available on Putlockers, redvido, and 4 muhdtv.

My favorite little-known episode has a prime viewing slot - 12:05AM on January 1, right after the ball drops. "The Trouble with Templeton." Watch the final scene of the female lead, Pippa Scott (who BTW is still with us). Watch her eyes, her facial expression, her body language. It is as fine a five second clip of wordless acting that you will ever see.

I submit we’ve actually lived “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” at some point over the last few years.

Any recommendations for someone who is curious, but never really "got" the Twilight Zone? Maybe the wrong way to look at it but was never really into Star Trek either. Is Twilight Zone Sci Fi? I'm more of a sitcom fan- Honeymooners, The Odd Couple, etc.

If you never really “got” the Twilight Zone, it means one of two things.
You never watched it?
You didn’t like the episodes you saw?
Which is it?

The latter. Watched a few episodes, and did not like them. Maybe the description in Wikipedia (if accurate) tells me it's not for me: "Each episode presents a standalone story in which characters find themselves dealing with often disturbing or unusual events, an experience described as entering "the Twilight Zone", often with a surprise ending and a moral. Although often considered predominantly science-fiction, the show's paranormal and Kafkaesque events leaned the show much closer to fantasy and horror (there are about twice as many fantasy episodes as science fiction)."

Enjoy--The Honeymooners marathon is on WPIX starting at 12:30 a.m. January 1 and runs through to 5 p.m. with a couple of news breaks. The Odd Couple starts at 9 p.m. tonight on WLNY 10/55 and runs through the afternoon on Janaury 1

Rod Serling himself addressed this question. He said Twilight Zone is a combination of science fiction and fantasy, which he viewed as very different. He said, "Science fiction makes the improbable, possible. Fantasy makes the impossible, probable."

I would say Twilight Zone is mostly fantasy. The large majority of episodes contain elements of the supernatural. One good one which does not, "The Monsters Are Due on Main Street", has already been mentioned in this thread.

Perhaps you might want to sample a few of the Twilight Zone comedies? A few examples:

Mr. Dingle the Strong
Showdown with Rance McGrew
Hocus Pocus and Frisby
Once Upon a TIme
Cavender is Coming
Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?
Escape Clause
The Whole Truth

Granted these are dark comedies, but comedies nonetheless.

I'd start with Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?

As one who saw the first episode first run as a 9 year old, watching the TZ isn't the same after Earl Holliman's passing last month.

“The Silence”
Is a wonderful tale about greed and social standing

Patrick O’Neil in “A Short Drink From A Certain Fountain”
Is a story about the quest to find youth with a great ironic twist

Damn....watching one now that I don't remember ever seeing...The Jungle! Wow!!

The key to enjoying and understanding Twilight Zone episodes is watching through from beginning to end. If not you miss subtle (or not) parts of a woven story and the irony or main point of the end of each story,

Two excellent episodes (already shown) to get a TZ introduction are The Obsolete Man and The Midnght Sun!

Great irony

The Jungle!
Off the top of my head, it’s about a developer who displaced wild animals in Africa with his building.
Somehow those animals come back to his home and terrorize him.

Excellent recall. I won't give away the ending in case someone finds a way to watch it (until the very end, of course!). The developer builds a dam over sacred tribal lands, and is cursed by the tribal chief for doing so. The curse follows him bak home to NYC.

These two episodes provide an excellent TZ introduction, because they show two very different sides of Rod Serling.

The Obsolete Man is science fiction. There is no paranormal or supernatural activity - just a look into a possible totalitarian future. Serling could be very moralistic, and he hits you hard with the moral on this one.

The Midnight Sun is quite different. It is fantasy, and scary fantasy at that. The key events have no basis in science. There is no explanation and no moral. The only lesson is that mankind is powerless against the forces of the twilight zone.

I think you’d like Changing of the Guard, The Last Flight, Obsolete Man, Night of the Meek, Hokus Pokus Frisby, Pitch for Angles, and 500 Yards Over the Rim (not sure if that’s the actual title)

My name is Talky Tina and I’m gonna kill you
Fun fact about that one. Those of us of a certain age, especially those of us who had sisters of a certain age, remember the talking doll Chatty Cathy. Talky Tina was an obvious parody of Chatty Cathy.

Rod Serling hired the same voice actress who did the Chatty Cathy recordings, to voice the role of Talky Tina. Now that's attention to detail.
