OT: Electric vehicles

I find these posts mind-boggling. After adjusting the 3 cushions on our seats with the controls on the side of the seats which then are saved under our names, my girlfriend and I think it is the most comfortable car seating we've ever used. She falls asleep next to me on any trip of length, every time. I'm at a loss for these folks.
There are Tesla owners on the Porsche forums who’ve complained about the seats in their Teslas as well. And in the Mercedes forums, people complain about their Porsche seat’s.

So to a large degree, I think it all depends on where one is coming from and is used to, as well as personal fit.

Using Porsche as an example of how much difference personal fit makes, they have five seat types that get offered across all their models. Of the five, two are aimed at being the most comfortable: 14-way and 18-way adjustable seats. Very high quality seats in both cases, but very few Porsche owners appear to like both. They like one and strongly dislike the other.

In my case, I really like the 18-way seats and find them very comfortable for long drives. Whereas I find it hard to get comfortable in the 14-way seats and they become very uncomfortable to me after even a short while.

I cannot explain this, but it’s very common for folks who’ve experienced both. Few seem to like both seat types.

The moral is that one person’s happiness with seating is not a guarantee of comfort for other people. I guess Porsche understands that and thus they offer the various seating types.

No limit currently.
Philosophically, I am not opposed to the limit. If you can afford a vehicle more than $80,000, perhaps you should not get a government subsidy. OTOH, state and federal governments have subsidized solar and other green energy projects without income limits (to the best of my knowledge).
Putting philosophy aside, I hope I get in under the wire. The MSRP for my vehicle is $14 over the limit!! However, when I did the math, comparing the vehicle I am buying with the ICE version, it was a couple/few thousand dollars more expensive, but we would earn that back within 18 months on gas savings.

take out those floor mats!

Been seeing a bunch of Hyundai EV's/Hybrids out there of late.
I tried to get one, but dealers were out of stock. Started looking at Ioniq EV, then Ioniq PHEV. Then they discontinued making them. The Ionic 5 was too expensive for me so I then looked at the Tuscan PHEV and couldn't find any where. Finally gave up and looked at Ford Escape PHEV and was ready to buy one locally after a test drive when the salesman side he just found out it was already sold. So started to look on the net and found a nice white one on the East side of Brooklyn. Called them and then went to see it the next day only to find out it was sold but they had a blue one. So I bought it.
However I'd never recommend the dealer who screwed up the finance agreement and it had to be redone a month later and now they told me they won't mail me the registration. They only mail to out of state buyers. I hate driving to eastern Brooklyn. Some day in a few weeks I will go pick up my registration if they don't decide to mail it to me.
The financial agreement screw up was the salesman asked me for my monthly income and thinking the form was looking for yearly income he multiplied the number by 12 and put it on the application. The bank looked at that out of range number and wanted me to send my entire 1040 form from last year. I balked. Finally I had to drive out to the east end of Brooklyn to figure out the problem and finally have it corrected.
Bottom line - I really like the SUV. I've gone over 300 miles and only 29 on gas. Most of that mileage was because the dealer never charged it and I drove home on gas and regenerated power from breaking.

I hate that I'm considering buying a car soon. Prices have gone bonkers - and on the ev front - I really hate the idea of buying sight unseen.

I would consider an S but that yoke is an automatic no now.

I hate the uninspired interiors on the 3/y and also lack of leather.

I like the Rivian R1s but again lack of leather - FML

Not into the mach-e

Not much else out there to touch and feel in my range - the Porsche is another 40k above the s
Wait for the Macan EV?

Some people really struggle with change. Comical.
It supports the point that it is not just this thread. It's not just change, and it has strangely become a left/right type of thing. I guess I understand why because one side has pushed EVs too far too fast when the charging networks don't seem ready for prime time and the majority of the vehicles are expensive. But to throw cold water on the idea and to say "never" to an EV doesn't make any sense. I wonder if Twitter existed pre-ICE vehicles, did the horse and buggy people say never to ICE powered vehicles? Probably.

To the point on change, small sample size, but several of the people who vocally against EVs seem the same on NIL.

Open this tweet, look at the replies and it reads like this thread full of EV haters
I don’t think there are many EV haters in the thread. Mostly when it comes to total hate for EVs, it seems to be folks who’ve been exposed to a lot of big-oil-funded narrative. Or at least the same folks expressing hate of EVs (in this thread) are also the “drill, baby, drill” folks.

I think most folks here are fine with EVs although several, like me, are still waiting for the technology to mature more before switching.

And there are a few car people, also like me, who have little interest in an EV sports car since it’s lacking stuff we really enjoy in sports cars (sound and gears and lightness). But I bet most of that later group would be fine with an EV truck or SUV or family sedan.

It’s funny, there’s a Tesla super charger station at the wawa on route 31 in flemington. Almost every time I drive by there are at least two big pickup trucks parked in the charging station spots. It’s clearly on purpose as the chargers are around back and relatively out of the way. Would never cross my mind to park in front of a gas pump in silent protest.

Yeah - I don't understand those people. If you don't believe in EVs I won't fault you for it but why be petty about those kinds of things?

Can't even think of another comparison where this sort of thing happens -- maybe I'm not trying hard enough.

Are the charging stations close to the store? While 100% correlation does not exist, many drivers of large pickup trucks are morbidly obese, and they can't walk very far to get their daily supply of donuts and coffee with sugar and cream.

It’s the never EV folks and how they go out of their way to let everyone know that. Truly bizarre imo. If I don’t like something I just don’t buy it and mind my own business.

Anyways, saw a brand new Polestar out in the wild yesterday. Not sure what model but it looked sharp. They may have the nicest looking EVs.

Sounds like appliances. No matter what you buy from Wolf or Viking to Jenn Air to GE Cafe/Monogram to Frigidaire to LG, you will always find someone complaining about what a giant POS they bought. LOL.

Funny thing. We had a Viking stove and a Thermador fridge when we lived in Rumson. We bought those brands, because realtors told us that you HAD to have those type of brands in your home for resale. The Thermador ha to be repaired at least twice in 3-4 years, and the repair person told us that they loved the high end brands because the generated the most work for them.
When we moved out of Rumson and needed an appliance package, we bought GE profile- fridge, stove, double wall oven, built in microwave and dishwasher were all together cheaper than the Thermador fridge. Five years in, we had a couple of minor problems with the GE fridge- some lights and a fan, that we replaced ourselves. $$$$. Sorry for the thread diversion. But brand and EV prejudice is not that different from any other type of prejudice. Some people get comfortable with one type, and they gravitate towards the one type and look at other types as inferior or bad.

Being an asshole is how they show the world they're real men.

I agree about what you’re saying about appliances and people’s complaints. There does seem to be a tendency for certain trendy high-end and pricey appliances to be somewhat unreliable, or at least to break easily. Same with cars. But perhaps it's just people who spend lots of money on a thing expect perfection with it - but perfection is pretty rare.

But car seats are a little different because seats are truly individual things (often regardless of cost). The same seat will work great for one person and suck for another. I really like my 18-way seats; spent 6 hours yesterday driving it on some awesome driving roads in Northwest NJ and NYS. But my youngest (24) just cannot get comfortable in those seats no matter how he adjusts them. But I would bet a lot that he’d find the 14-way seats very comfortable whereas I cannot get comfortable in them. Go figure.

Different bodies fit seats differently. I would imagine that's true of stuff like sofas and arm-chairs, etc.

A neighbor put Thermador in their kitchen. Thermador runs some of these specials like buy three, get two for free. They’ve had issues with the oven and fridge.

We went with GE Cafe in our remode that starts in a month or so. Wife had a corporate discount and the sales guy told us stick with GE or any of the Whirlpool line (Kitchen Aid, Jenn Air, etc) because of repairs and ease of getting pets relative to other brands.

Ford CEO Jim Farley delivers a F150 Lightning to Munro and Associates. The Ford team sits down with Sandy for an interview that covers a whole host of topics in the EV space.

So excited about getting my F150 Lightning. They bumped my production date ahead 1 week to Sept. 26.

One frustrating thing about the GE fridge (and it is a common problem) is the fan motor that draws cold air up from the freezer into the fridge tends to die frequently. But a replacement, which can be purchased on Amazon is less than $40, and easy to replace (if one is inclined to turn a few screws) and unplug the old and plug in the new.

I did my kitchen 3 yrs ago with GE Cafe. I had to get the DW repaired but parts and repairman came right away. No wait.

My built in hasn’t had a problem yet. The only issue was the door was dented and took 3 replacements to get one right.

What are you paying per kWh for Home Charging?
My current conEdison monthly electric bill is 26.4265 cents per kWh for Supply, Delivery and something called System Benefit Charge.

Does 13.39 cents per kWh in NJ for JCP&L seem correct. Is NYC electric that expensive?

I obtained that rate from here:
