OT: Electric vehicles

This demonstrates nothing other than you buy cars because you need to get from Point A to Point B and care nothing about the driving experience.

Toyotas are the automotive equivalent of a vacuum cleaner.
I had a Toyota MR2, was my first new car. Even back then I had a thing for having the engine behind me. 🙂

Loved that car. I think it had a whopping 98 HP. But it could be whipped around like a go cart.

My Toyota lasted for 330k before the water pump went. That was the only major
Repair I had in the 13 years I owned it. I could have kept it longer but honestly just needed to change vehicles. My current Mazda is stick, fun to drive and so far with 140k on it only has needed regular maintenance. So far,
So good.
While I generally disagree with, well, most things you post, keeping a car for13 years is one of the most environmentally friendly things you can do. Toyota should be celebrated for making such reliable cars and the land cruiser is one of the baddest vehicles on the road.

That being said, the s60 is a sharp car, not a soccer mom ride. It’s a sedan, soccer moms drive suvs and minivans.

I agree; minivans must have about 60 hp because they move like they have molasses in their gas tanks.

I live in a soccer mom town and there isn't a single one of them that has one of these. Not. One.

Not sure I like the look of this or not. Seems like a lot of extra creases and the accent swoop on the front fenders are ugly. Overall silhouette isn't bad for what it is...a mid sized SUV
The Scarlet Knight interior option?

color scheme is great, but that center stack just looks too busy for my taste. i don't like the single slab touchscreen a la tesla either, but there's a lot going on in this one.
I think it's OK. I also thing the picture is a bit distorted. We have gotten use to our "soccer mom" S-60 plug-in hybrid screen where most everything is controlled by the screen. It is quite intuitive and easy to learn. They do provide a few buttons and a useful knob for pausing music and adjusting the volume.

haha. This back and forth between SKINNY & 4Real is not going to end well for SKINNY.
Since before 2001 I've seen 4Real beat down many that tried to challenge him.
Sorry SKINNY.
I don't think it matters to Skinny since I believe he's being paid to troll the boards. The more you engage, the better it is financially for him. A scarier thought is he's not a paid troll, and actually believes the garbage he spews. In either case, it's best to ignore.

Thinking of buying a used model 3. Any recs from those that have done it? Outside of carfax info. Prices seem all over the place in my recent search.

What does this even mean?
It means the IRA eliminates a number of cars from the available tax credit due to production constraints and it reduces the number of people who can get a credit based upon income. Typically the people who can actually afford to buy these more expensive cars. Does that make sense?

I've always thought the income cap on EV credits was ass-backwards. Encourage people who can afford them to buy them. It helps establish market penetration.

Not to mention there is no need for class warfare in the climate fight. It affects all. Oh and it slows overall adoption which is counter to the intent.

You can buy used directly from Tesla.

Thanks, I’ve seen that. I’ve been looking more broadly and have seen the same profile cars in the high 30s. To me, I can buy a new one for 46 or so with some state credits that reduce it by 2k. Effectively no discount on the site for used which I wont do because I can wait. And the principal of it. But high 30s with low mileage interests me. Just concerned about things like battery degradation or other issues folks may be aware of.

Not only that. My income is a pension and Social Security along with an RMD. The NON-REFUNDABLE tax credit for my new PHEV is $6,843. If anything, I usually GET BACK around $1k therefore I will not get 1 cent of this "tax credit".

Sorry not following. You say you qualify by income level but because you get a refund, you won’t get the credit?

Maintain good charging habits and you'll be fine. Depending on your battery chemistry, there are some simple do's and don'ts to follow.
