@BellyFullOfWhiteDogCrap is 100% correct. All US Teslas are made in the US. What you you are missing is that majority of the Tesla sales are outside of the US and those cars are made in China. I’m going to assume a big reason why Tesla has great margins. Made in China always help keep the cost down.

ETA there is a reason Musk is willing to speak his mind about US government and kisses the ring to the communist country.

Ok, picture is getting a little clearer. Tesla makes its US sold products in US, but Asian sold products in China. Got it. Out of curiosity, do you have this much concern over your American company/Chinese made cellphone or computer you are posting this from, or is it just Tesla that you fight the good fight over?

China is the largest EV market in the world. Makes sense to have a high volume production facility there, no?

As far as Tesla's relationship with the US vs China. Tesla didn't start this tiff with the current administration. Is Tesla not justified in speaking out given it took 2 years to acknowledge Tesla's existence and also giving false valor to GM and Ford? Is it not right to point out corruption?

And Chris brings up a good point. Hundreds of US companies do business within China, yet you only seem to have a problem with Tesla. Why is that?

My issue here is that Tesla is trying to have their cake and eat it too. You can’t be All American when most of you product is made elsewhere. Logically speaking, wouldn’t they be an All Chinese company since all Teslas sold in China are made in China? Sure, a lot company do business in China but I don’t see any of them trying to brand themselves as All American company. They call themselves multinational corporations.

I am all for crapping all over Tesla, but this is disingenuous. MB is a German company, as is BMW, VW. For a long time, Toyota and Honda lived off their Japanese reputation. They all build cars all over the world. Ford and GM play up the 'Murican-ness, but build everywhere as well.

Please provide evidence of Tesla branding itself as an All American Company.

Sounds like you should be peeved at 2 other American auto companies that do business in China and the rest of the world.

The Ford slogan “Built Ford Tough” is three simple words that hold so much history and meaning. They represent the decades of hard work, consistent determination to be the best and at the forefront, and ultimately, they represent the American spirit.

Tesla never says anything officially. They just tweet and let YouTube to do all their “non-advertising” do the talking. The fact is majority of the cars Tesla sells are Made in China. Am I right?

Car brands are all known for their country of origin despite the fact they manufacture all over, including in China. You're making a distinction without a difference.

Well clearly the news sparked a rally in Tesla and its up 22% the past week...still own a good chunk after many sells over time. Thinking about buying back in as I think there is just too much positive news out there for the outlook of this company in many ways

I now own a Model 3 and will say its game changing--my kids are fascinated with it

Your claim that Tesla is branding itself as an all American company is false. Now you're moving the goal posts.

Tesla currently has 2 factories producing in volume (Berlin just started yesterday, Austin next month). Fremont is a retrofitted factory build in 1962 for ICE vehicles. Shanghai, built in 2019, is a Tesla built facility from the ground up. Which factory do you think is going to be more efficient?

To put your mind at ease, once Berlin and Austin are full go, the majority of vehicles will not be made in China. Then, you can finally sleep easy.

I think Tesla investors (you) will sleep easy when that happens. I’m interested to see if they can maintain margins when production shifts away from China. Does shipping cost offset increased labor cost?

Margins will continue to rise. They could dip near term due to both new factories being ramped.

Shipping costs are only part of the equation. What you and others are blind to is that Tesla's long term competitive advantage will be manufacturing. Tesla is the fastest growing company in history that makes a large manufactured product. Austin and Berlin (3rd generation factories) will be masterpieces of speed and efficiency. Single piece front and rear vehicle castings and in-house cell production on site with the most energy dense cells (large scale) in the world are just 2 of manufacturing upgrades. Of course, Tesla never sits idle. They will continue to improve efficiency and innovate.

Me think you bias. Will wait and see 😀. It would also be good if Tesla is more transparent on reporting. Is it that hard to report by region and individual models? I mean even old ICE auto can do that.

This is not financial advice.
I follow the 200 day moving average. When TSLA is near/at/below that price point I add. Done pretty well so far.

And 100%, kids are fascinated with Teslas and I suppose EVs in general. A great sign for the future.
