OT: Fleck and WMU destroying Illinois

Not that there is anything wrong with that...

I really had thought PJ was going to get the Illinois job within the next year or two, but they found Lovie and canned Cubit asap.

This is his 4th year. He was 1-11 his first season.

Let's see where Ash is in year 4.

I'm kind of surprised by his success. Was never a coordinator and is winning with coaches that all of you people hated and wanted gone. I used to knock him BC he had no P5 wins but now has 2. Maybe Schiano was the problem :scream:

Never cared for his antics but have to give some credit for the P5 wins on the road even if against lower tier P5 teams. Still hasn't won his conference yet though but this is the year to do it I'd think. Babers has left Bowling Green and Campbell left Toledo. Seems like it should be a clear path.

Then maybe a Purdue job or something like it comes open and we see how he does on the P5 level and if the antics will carry over there as well or not.

PJ was Northern Illinois' OC ( For a day)
Accepted the position then the next day told NI's HC he wasn't taking the job.
Wound up Schiano's WR coach at Tampa that year and moved into the WM HC position the next year.

Like I said. Never a coordinator. Basically a WR coach. I thought he was a poor man's Franklin maybe I'm wrong.

I still do nothing has changed for me. It's funny you say that because I actually almost used that term in my prior post. I'd basically have to see it done on the P5 level to believe it. You basically could say that about any one who hasn't been a P5 HC in their career but I feel it more about Fleck than other prospective P5 HC candidates.

You can count HC's who haven't been coordinators on one hand. At P5 level you can count it on 3 fingers. To succeed, you need big money for coordinators

Brady Hoke had big money at Michigan and was a great recruiter and we see how he turned out. He's finally become a coordinator at Oregon for the first time in his career after having been a HC, go figure lol. Funny enough though I don't think his replacement in Harbaugh was ever a coordinator either. Just like his brother with the Ravens.

Some guys you can tell from their prior jobs that they may have a good shot but some you feel it's more of a crap shoot than normal. Fleck to me is that. Hoke was too.

Amazing how you can't just be judged on how good of a job you're doing without some people trying to speculate on what he would be doing elsewhere.

He's doing a kick-ass job where he is. Anything else can wait until somebody has a job opening, and since we're hoping it's not us for a while even that is unnecessary drivel.

And the MAC always has good coaches. Used to be mostly at Miami, now they seem to take turns.

To me it's not about us at all. We're not going to be hiring a coach any time soon and hopefully won't need to be either.

I always like talking about coaches and coaching prospects and I will project how I feel some may or may not perform on the P5 level. This is also isn't like college basketball where a coach can win a championship (see Villanova) and get paid big money on the mid major level. They have a comfort staying put. I don't think that holds true in college football. Most football coaches want to step up to the P5 level if they haven't been there and have a resume that qualifies them. I like to talk about that. If you don't like it then don't read it.

He is a goofy guy, and those allegations about his affinity for coeds and alumni wives could be an issue. He will probably get another job soon
