OT: How do you explain the Seminoles right now(LOL?)

In my opinion, the sudden interest in Florida State on this board is not because of any dislike of JayDogSmooth; I think he is well-liked by most. Nor do I think it is anything similar to the "anti-Yankee" or "anti-Cowboys" type thing mentioned above.

I believe it's merely because the school has shown zero humility over the past year, while dissing their current conference and claiming that it's unfair that they are required to honor the commitments they made. And then, after this offseason circus, they have fallen flat on their face, sitting dead last in the conference they have supposedly outgrown. It's just human nature to find all of that amusing.

JayDog seems like a cool fellow, and always shows up to take the abuse over the team's short-term failings. I agree with him that FSU will be back soon...

I agree that the way they've gone about doing things isn't how I like it done
I'd much prefer it behind closed doors, silent, out of the public

What I've been told is they felt they had no choice other than to blast the ACC publicly - that puts pressure on them to get something done, and more importantly, close the money gap

There's currently lots of talk about the ACC getting more $$ from ESPN, which is what the whole bone of contention was from the jump
Standing pat and not doing anything would have landed FSU roughly 500 million (on a low end) behind their peers

ESPN didn't do us any favors with the snub, and we didn't do ourselves any favors w/the bowl boycott and subsequent terrible start to the season - however, like in most instances, this is likely going to come to a head via a settlement / renegotiation before it goes to trial

There's just too much to lose for both parties

It's never a bad thing when people root against you - it means you matter
More importantly, it means they'll tune in and boost your Rating$$$
This is definitely true. Nobody cared when RU sucked throughout the Ash era except Michigan fans who got free steak for all the TDs scored.

Admittedly it's definitely more fun when you're winning rather then losing!
Of course - but point taken that national interest in a team that’s losing is suggestive of a steady prior history of winning. Otherwise nobody would even take notice except when you lose in historic fashion like 78-0.

Exactly
ND is still hated and they've largely sucked for the past 35 years
Same with Dallas for the past 25 years
That's the textbook definition of brand

No commentary of FSU being blown out by SMU this past weekend.

Did not see that, thx!

FSU is really earning its way out of the ACC ... and into the AAC. Maybe they should snag that eighth spot in the MW before the opportunity sunsets. Travel's not ideal but better than getting left completely behind.

This is very SWC. Back in the day Rice had mocking versions of almost every SWC fight song…A&M has words for the Texas song (I’ve been working on the railroad for the eyes of Texas) and the other way around (the Mickey Mouse song for the Aggie War Hymn), but the Rice MOB (Marching Owl Band) led the way…that was a fun conference. Once a Texas player was part of a dui…no one was seriously hurt, but the next week the rice band had a cardboard cut out in the shape of a car and proceeded to crash all over the field. When the A&M mascot died, they played all dogs go to heaven as they formed the shape of a fire hydrant…they pretended to pee on it.

Brutal but funny…probably not allowed these days.

Sort of like the Stanford and Ivy bands of a generation ago.

Latest rumor is the Sun Belt
The South Alabama game would be the new rivalry
Close proximity would make both fanbases excited

Smooth, you are showing real class! It can't be easy.
It's all good my man, it's a message board
Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose

Team is complete trash this year
No heart, lots of guys getting paid, and flat out embarrassing

Last year, we got hosed w/the playoffs
This year, I'm at a loss for words

Penn-Princeton halftime were epic!!
Googling the Stanford Band is good for so many yuks. There are so many stories - this article outlines some of their best. Aside from “the play” my personal faves involve USC - the team that all West Coast schools love to hate.

The year before Dartmouth went co-ed as the Yale band was finishing their show and was marching off the field to a single drumbeat their announcer says:

"So, Men of Dartmouth, like the squirrels of your North Woods, it's time to store your nuts away for winter,"

Edited to add. Their formation was two circles.

Legit question...you really think they should have been in the playoffs after Travis got hurt? I think the 4 teams that went were clearly better than fsu without Travis...

Columbia's salute to great dead dictators.

"The Shah of Iran said to his side 'The people are revolting!'

"'Ayatola you so' was the response"

Should have been in, yes
Undefeated in a P5 league with a lights out defense

Winning title?
Doubtful

Defense travels, but 2 games with Brock would have been asking a lot

Giants did it with Hostetler in 1990, but that’s an anomaly

I think it would have depended who they faced

Texas and Michigan would have been a big hill to climb

Washington w Pennix wouldn’t have been a walk in the park either

But you never really know, that’s why they play the games

A lot of people are

Similar to the cowboys, Yankees, Notre dame, etc losing

You know you’re doing something right (or at least, revalent enough) when people are actively rooting against you

It’s when they stop, don’t care or become indifferent it’ll become cause for concern
I don’t think you get it… FSU never was and will never be on par with your examples. The rooting against FSU this year is due exclusively to the the whining entitlement surrounding last season. They were NOT by any measure, by any eye test, or by any comparison worthy of a shot at the title game.

I never claimed that they were on par with any of those brands, if you’ve read my previous posts ive repeatedly said that they are not on that level

Im merely making comparison to those brands as the only tool that likes your post, who is also clueless about college football in general and specifically about brands and what they encompass, was waxing poetic about how they’re not a strong brand

There was no whining and entitlement last year, there was fans rightfully pissed that they were left out of the playoffs after going undefeated during the regular season, in a power five conference and winning their conference championship game, which had never be done before, and, by all measures, completely devalues the regular season and makes even playing the games absolutely pointless

Yes, when Travis went down, their offense was bad.

But in case you didn’t watch the games, which, judging by your post, you probably didn’t, their defense was out of this world.

Gun to My head, do I think they would’ve won the title, no I don’t.

But you can’t leave a team out just because you don’t think they’re going to win, specifically when they’ve earned the right to play, and when the whole point of being in the playoffs is because anything can happen, and, wait because…That’s why they play the games to begin with

They finished ranked 22 of the last 35 years and won the NC 36 years ago. Maybe that sucks by their standards but most teams would die for that.

^^^ delusional… it’s this sort of thing that fosters the anti- FSU backlash this year.

The Great Tally Wacker has spoken

I see one very likely win (UCLA) and one probable loss (USC). The rest? To be decided.

That has to be a whole new set of issues. The resentments from paying players who aren’t producing. And then what if other players not getting paid surpass the high roller NIL tickets that don’t pan out? Can’t even begin to imagine the locker room mess.

But how many of those 35 years were they ranked in the Top 10-15 preseason? And how many of those years did they end up there? Especially the last 5.

We can name call or discuss rationally
Dispute anything I just said

Undefeated - check
Devalued regular season and champ game - check
Lights out defense - check

I'll wait
