OT: Idaho dropping down from FBS to FCS

Look it's a wet and muddy ball and Salvucci's been out all night robbing people. He would have fit right in with last year's crowd, I'm surprised Flood didn't offer him. No way you hand it off to him, it's all on Nickerson.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Are you saying Flood would've offered a 50 something year old?

Maybe not them specifically, but you will see Div I programs drop all together. Sports athletics is about to bust.
Unfortunately I see Hawaii folding within 5-10 years. That's just too much money they have to spend just to fly 150 people to the mainland 6, 7 times a year. And that's the beginning.

Mark Schlereth can't be too happy about this. Maybe they need to hit him up for cash and that other Vandal alum who ran for Vice President eight years ago will blame the drop to FCS on Obama.

Will they play Wazzu? The Coogs are only 10 miles away.

Those schools would just hemorrhage money. Essentially you would be creating a east coast MAC. It would be a disaster.
1) They already hemorrhage money. Upgrading would allow them to take paycheck games & sign a TV contract.
2) The CAA is already a better conference than the MAC. Upgrading would give NJ 3rd tier kids the same opportunity that 3rd tier kids in Ohio & Michigan have. And wouldn't you rather have Maine & Delaware on the OOC schedule rather than Sometown, Ohio or Directional Michigan?

- they can take "paycheck games" now

- the CAA is better than the MAC? Sagarin had MAC West (14), MAC East (18), CAA (23rd) for 2015

- one more time: Delaware is NOT moving up.

I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind dropping FBS to FCS. They'll still bleed tons of money. They either need to drop to D2 or drop football altogether.
Seems to me this was more about finding a home for the football program. They really belong in the Big Sky. All their other teams are there already and they're not Notre Dame with their own t.v. contract where they can afford to fly the football team around the country for games.

Agree Part 1

Disagree Part 2. Most of those schools draw flies and that won't draw anymore playing one a other moving up a level. Delaware is NOT moving up they've said it a million times. Nova? Not happening. JMU is the only school that can, should, and likely will move up. Damn 500-piece band and all!

Agree. In the CAA (and FCS for that matter), one of these things is not like the others. JMU belongs in a bigger pond.

1. The TV contract might pay them an additional $1 million per year. Far less then the cost to upgrade football.

2. You are delusional if you think the CAA is better than the MAC. The CAA isn't even the top conference in FCS.

2014 attendance figures (per game):

Albany - 5,341
Central Conn - 3,078
(Delaware - doesn't matter they're not moving up)
Maine - 5,657
Rhode Island - 5,317
Stony Brook - 7,000
UNH - 8,745
Towson - 7.288

...yeah, let's get these teams up to FBS level lol!!!
You reasoning is flawed. If Va Tech and Wisconsin for example dropped to 1AA, would they pack the place? No, people would seek another team to watch.

What I am saying is the 1AA model is probably under pressure. Either you move up or down. Its not as though the MAC is the most stable. Might as well bring more in, "regionalize" games during the season to save on travel expenses and play a Champ game.

Those schools I listed aren't drawing more than another 2-3K/game on campus. Just not happening and they all likely are well aware of the fact, hence, they ain't movin' up.

If a school drops from 1-A to 1-AA, can the players transfer to another 1-A school without having to sit a year ?

I think in the next 5-10 years you will see much more of this.

Dropping 22 Scholarships is an enormous money saver and all of their other programs are already at that level. It is not like they are making a great deal of money on the TV Contract from the SunBelt.
It's really 44 scholarships if you count Title IX
