OT: Indiana extends Wilson

My goodness, my head would explode if we not only kept a coach with that 5-year track record, but then doubled his salary.

On that basis, ignoring the off field issues, Flood could have received a 10 year extension.

I saw that and was surprised by it. I think he deserved to stay and maybe a slight contract boost and slight extension but 6 years and doubling his pay seems like a lot. I'd wonder if there's any smaller buyout written into the contract. It's what I've said repeatedly, just the slightest bit of success and ADs these days go gaga over it and start forking over the money and years. I don't get it. Okay move if there's some manageable buyout in it, otherwise overpaid IMO.

On the other hand 1-11 to 6-7 in the toughest Division in the country... Certainly deserves a raise. 6 years. Not so much.

Like Joe Paterno's contract, it is incentive-laden. If Wilson figures out a way to beat Rutgers, he gets a NJ beach house at Avalon, NJ.

By my count that makes Wilson about the 44th highest paid coach in the sport. Maybe a little high, Indiana is not quite the 44th best program, but I don't think it's all that ridiculous. Indiana is more competitive now than they've been any time I can remember. The last time they made a bowl, following the 2007 season, they didn't play Ohio State or Michigan. They played both this year, down to the last play.

I think it's a smart move and from a school that I feel has generally let their football program stagnate. Kudos to them.
