OT - Jersey Country Clubs

I'm thinking of switching clubs since my current club is kinda dying financially and most of my friends have went elsewhere. I'm looking at North Jersey or Central Jersey clubs. Anyone have any sense of the memberships, including initiation and culture? Preferring something youngish and diverse. Obviously Bayonne would be out my price range and Baltusrol would be too hard to get an invite. But, I'm looking for good golf as well as a good family environment. TIA

Bushwood. But, be careful; there's no gambling there.

Seriously, try Fiddlers Elbow. Not sure you'll find diversity there, but the courses are great and it's a nice family environment.

As stated, you need to narrow down the geography. In terms of affordability and family atmosphere, I don't think you can beat Forsgate. Several times voted best family club in NJ. Same owner, I believe as Shackamaxon, so their may be reciprocal privilege. Very low food minimum, and membership includes the pool, health club, etc. Fiddlers has really stepped up their game from a family standpoint, with very nice pool area, and it's hard to find theee courses for continued variety. Basking Ridge CC is also nice for families.

6 is very impressive. But you have to disclose the gimme range. I find country club golf takes at least 4 strokes off my score. LOL
I'm your typical newspaper 6.
I can't take more that double unless it's a stroke play tournament.
At Montclair we don't rake much...besides our team bet, we usually have side bets, we put the ball in the hole, but after we reach double we're done

Only kidding of course. I played a number of rounds at Montclair. Was suppose to last Friday but work got in the way. The greens there are challenging, borderline gimmicky.

Tara Greens in Somerset. That 90-degree dogleg left on the 6th hole accommodates my slice. The 625-yard 7th hole may seem long, but on a hot summer day when the fairway is hard-baked by the sun you can get a 100 yard bounce and roll that really shortens this hole.

Fiddler's Elbow was pretty awesome - especially with the cost covered by a corporate membership.
Funny. Bring back some memories. Does it still have that toxic waste pond ?

Very cool. I followed Arnie who had the 1st tee time for 9 holes at the '80 Open walked around to different holes then followed Jack who had the last time in.

Is it true most actually favor the upper course over the lower course.

I preferred the Upper the first 6bholes go out along the mountain and the greens are very difficult. Once you get to number 7 par 3 IMHO the course has more character and better more playable holes. The Lower is just plain long not as much piece and quiet you have shunpike rd and mountain ave that give off a lot of noise. On the Upper it's a nice walk.
The members I don't think care where they play a fairly regular question to the caddie master is where can we get off quicker and which ever course is more available they go there
