OT: Job market

Again, then why are you talking about the past?

Original post that raised a certain group's hackles was a direct response to the OP's question and merely mentioned tariffs.

I'd love to hear a rebuttal as to how he was wrong and it's really an ideal time to be laid off and out searching for a new job, rather than rehashing past complaints that are no longer relevant to reality.
It started when a known rebel rouser / attention whore decided to inject politics into the thread, then double down on his initial inappropriate interjection with more of his infamous drivel, under the usual guise of playing it coy / being innocent when he's intentionally trying to, like usual, stir the pot

Nobody (least of all, you nor I) know how the tariffs will ultimately play out
Additionally, it's never been an ideal time to be laid off - I've been there, I know the feeling

Myself and a few others have given suggestions on how to navigate these choppy waters
I certainly don't envy anyone in that position - and would think that since, regardless of our political views, we all love the same school, anyone of us who had the ability to, would help out a fellow Rutgers fan / alum / supporter

I suggest you get your head out of the sand from the View and MSNBC. I prefer to do my own research from various sites and don't watch sensationalized TV news. Simply look up the various NGO's that recently shutdown on their own accord once the gig was up and you'll find what they were actually spending money on. Money that came from one source, the Federal Gov't, not private funding. It wasn't to help the poor and needy.

Oh and how's that inflation reduction act doing? You know the one that had nothing to do with inflation or its reduction. Want the numbers on how much that one cost each American taxpayer?
Bumbling political hack Gomer is on the case of the evil NGO’s.

That’ll go as well as his impeachment hearings.😂🤡😂🤡

They support the world’s greatest buffoon. He’s always been an undisciplined, unhinged, ignorant clown who is graded on a curve.

He clearly has no understanding of economics, the markets, and certainly has no appreciation or understanding of history.

If he did he’d realize that tariffs have NEVER worked, and have in fact led to disastrous economic outcomes.

But when you’re a simpleton who views everything as a zero sum game; well if you have a deficit you must be losing, lololol.

And they have the audacity to criticize others’ mental acuity.

This entire presidency is a joke. Sadly, a cruel joke. And it’s on us.

unhinged
At the end of the day if we wind up with better tariff arrangements with 70 countries, what then?

Who added more to the national debt? You really want to have that conversation?
Sure, without Covid spending, I'll play. One guy paid for all the implementation of Covid programs (Operation Warp Speed), while the other simply rode his coat tails of what was already paid for. Funny how 43% of one guys surplus spending was do to, "One life is one too many". You remember that Dem talking point don't you, it's what led to draconian lockdowns.

This thread is antisocial media personified.

1. OP asks for help finding work for the son of a friend who by his account is a fine young man.

2. Board attention whore who is wrong about just about everything, and most importantly, Rutgers game predictions, coyly throws his political drivel into the thread.

3. The most polarizing and ugly troublemaker posters from both sides get into a melee pointing out why their side is the least worst.

4. People in the middle try to intervene and make fair points, but get caught in the scrum.

5. Board moderators let it persist for way longer than it should have persisted.

This is why this board is flaming septic tank 90% of the time and people have checked out.

Go outside. Take a walk, a hike, a bike ride. Hug your loved ones, call the ones not near you and tell you that you love them. You never know what tomorrow may bring.

Watch this if you are into inane, pointless arguing. Happy day!!!

Guy asks the board for help finding his laid off son employment. First response diverts to a political discussion, 6 pages of political arguing ensues. Never change TKR

Not my field and I’m across the country so no help here. Best of luck to your son @fg7321
Guy that initiates the political dissertation disappears like a thief in the night and moves onto NIL, Fieldhouse dreams, erroneously predicting playoff teams and making bobbleheads of himself, all in the name of repeatedly getting on Message Board Geniuses

Can't make this shit up

Hunter had nothing to do with government. Ever.

Your weird fascination with an inconsequential degenerate shows you don’t have much else.
You sure about that? Hunter was in many planning meetings going back to when Biden was VP.

He also was a licensed lobbyist until his dealings and crack use got in the way. Wsant elected but definitely involved in government and initiating and drafting policy.

OP's main question was about the economy at large, which is also how his thread title reads. Tariffs are a pretty topical part of that, no?

Al's hypothesis doesn't seem that off. Everyone's a bit uncertain right now so I'd expect a lot of industries to be in something of a holding pattern as far as new investments and hires, making it an extra tough time to be looking for a job. That's what the OP asked based on his own observations.

So again, if you believe Al was wrong, then why? I'd actually like to hear the counterargument. Instead, it's been five pages of back-and-forth finger pointing, half of which is directed at a phantom.

For those who are looking, you need to customize your resume for each job, and make sure you include the keywords listed in the job posting, especially as many of the required skills that you have. Your resume should have your accomplishments quantified because anyone can do tasks. And your resume MUST be error free. These are some things that will get your resume past the AI Filters, otherwise it’s an automatic kick out.
chatgpt is great for this. Submit resume and your cv and watch it work its resume magik. You can churn out solid customized resumes and cover letters in about 10-15min of iteration per job posting.

That’d be great. 👍 just don’t see it happening with the disjointed proposal and herky jerky pullbacks.

That approach has eroded confidence from Wall St and corporate CEO’s. Right now it’s hindering way more than it’s helping.

He’s also alienating our allies and traditional trading partners. So much so that Korea and Taiwan have been in talks with China on trade. Same with Canada and Europe.

Today he’s making overtures to China to come to the table which tells me they haven’t and don’t intend to. They know they can outlast him.

You guys think somehow that he’s playing 3 D chess here and he’s not.

The way that all these countries are coming to us now with better offers than we have now

Gotta figure out a way to channel all this political toxicity into something positive. How about for every politically charged post, that poster donates $10 to beaced’s GoFundMe campaign? Lord knows this thread gets way more activity than that one, sadly.

I see what you did there. Our fanbase is so cheap that all of the political bickering will stop, right? 😄

It is funny when a Trumper calls out anyone else's eating habits. But at least Trump is a fantastic golfer- wonderful, he has not lost a single round or tourney either while he has been President or when he plays at the Country Club with his name on it...Good things all the photos of him and Epstein were obviously fake or he had no idea that Epstein also liked young girls.
Sounding like a jilted lover… continue sounding like a guy who is going to take the same drab whine to his final resting place.

I have to defend moderators somewhat (and I've been dinged by them).
We live in a spectacularly hazardous moment historically that some experts see as akin to 1935 and others 1860-1 (I say both).
Its mostly impossible to mention any topic that doesn't have political aspects (including sports).
I think mods let some people have a run at topics that can tip political and then clip it when it gets gratuitously vindictive.
That's been fair imo - its just that some are reliably grenade throwers (and yet robust admin complainers)

For me problem isn't politics but people who are reliably, emotionally temperamental.
The hostility and resentment is the problem and not so much the topic (some get hot in football threads too).
Personally I don't get mad at posts and call posters names - when people do it to me I don't care.

Its like a hot potato - some throw them and want the reaction to know someone caught it.
If people don't react to the hot potatoes they fail,
When you walk across town some dogs are going to bark and snarl behind the fence.

I think some OT threads that are related to immediate events (RIPs, helicopter crashes) are fine.
The long running OTs (sub-forums basically) should be in a forum for those (I've seen that).
If the Football board looks mostly about football that helps the delicates feel better .
OT is hard because its exclusive.

You know that “all these countries are coming”to us? I know that’s what he and his acolytes are saying but is there any proof of that?

Or you’re just taking Trump’s word for it? We’ve heard that song before.

Knowing Trump, some of "these countries are coming to us" is likely bullshit
Some is likely true

I'm in sales
One good week doesn't define a quarter
One good quarter doesn't define a year
And one good year doesn't define a career

Everybody's going ape shit, on both sides, re. the tarriffs
How about everyone takes a chill pill and waits to see how things ultimately turn out

Two things we know about Trump
1. He's largely full of shit and isn't strong on policy
2. Regardless, he gets shit done, and often time, effectively to the benefit of most people

I'd prefer 1 get cleaned up, but ultimately, it's 2 that really matters

Ultimately, it’s OK to disagree
It’s actually healthy and makes us not like Germany in the late 1930s.

At least, that’s what I tell my wife when she attempts to argue with me about taking excessive football road trips or other associated things typically involving sports or tailgating lol

Friends son gets laid off from Major Telecom firm in NJ due to a force reduction.

He's an Engineer with a Masters in EE.

Kids an Eagle Scout great all around extremely bright personable etc.

Can't find a job in NJ. is the economy really this bad?

Anyone have any contacts would be appreciated...
Is there some type of independent work the kid could do while he looks for a job? I had a friend who lost his job 40+ years ago and ended up starting a business related to what he did. It was slow in the beginning, but his company is still going.

He was young so he could take the risk but other situations where you can take the risk is if you are married and your spouse works and can carry benefits for the family.

Isn’t your rant slightly disjointed… to paraphrase “ Trump is FOS but he gets things done. Contrasted with the brain dead Delaware sandman who didn’t know whether to shat or go blind. Guy did absolutely nothing for 4 years and the party still can’t understand why Trump won. Can’t make this shat up.

No one said the Durham Site had anything to do with any administration Obviously that type of facility takes years and years. My point was there was a reason they picked NC as opposed to upgrading the Rahway site which has plenty of room for expansion

If you're implying that "value politics" factored into the decision, you'd be incorrect, IMO. It's purely a dollars and cents issue - NC has a less expensive labor force and secondary costs (utilities, taxes, etc.) are also less. NJ is an expensive place to do business, because it's a top-tier revenue state. Frankly, manufacturing of any type has no business in NJ, except maybe below Burlington County. The economic math just doesn't favor the investment.

If I was looking to locate a manufacturing facility, you bet your ass I'd be looking in Arkassippibama, somewhere.

To me the funny thing is the ones screaming about Trump were so quiet the last four years when we don't know who was running things. Time will tell if its successful or not but at least he is trying something. We can't continue on this same course of spending more than we make and paying for the worlds social programs. It should be normal course of business that we charge what we get charged when it comes to tariffs.

He loves to bluster . Some interpret that as BS .The facts point to exactly what you jut posted. People have to understand he has always been this way yet he as you say, “ produces” and gets things done for the most part. I know what you were saying but many others just dislike Trump for no sane reasoning. Other than the fact he wasn’t in their group of career politicians. He turned their private world upside down and still he is back stronger and better. AOC and BS attempting to gin up their constituents by claiming the big bad boogey man is a threat to regular Jean and Joes. “ The Oligarchy “ … learned that term in 5th - 6th grade…. Today that references Billionaires while she and BS are only multi millionaires. Talk about out of touch.

I read your post to someone working for our small LLC who relocated to Dallas a little over a year ago. We were scratching our heads and laughing hard at your statement: "Also the Dallas area is garbage, narcissistic consumerism America at its worst. Would never live there." For like ten minutes, we were like WTAF. This guy, his wife and young child LOVE Dallas. No state income tax. Booming economy. Beautiful suburbs. Maybe you have some boots on the ground experience, maybe not. But hard for you to judge, living a Pittsburgh of all places. Not a knock on Pittsburgh. I think it is a cool city. Hoped my one kid was going to go to CMU. But c'mon, taking a shot at other cities from Pittsburgh?

As @newell138 pointed out, there are many reasons why people and corporations are fleeing NJ in droves. It is not a business friendly state. This is nothing political. As just one small example of how ridiculous NJ is when it comes to business-we have run out of room on our small break room walls to post all the nonsensical crap NJ requires to be posted to inform employees of "their rights." Each new posting includes a warning that if we don't post it, we will be fined heavily and/or thrown into Rahway State prison (that's a joke) for life. I get it. Employee rights are important. We treat our people well. We have very few people leave because we treat them well. But c'mon, we are a professional office. Do we really need to post a poster on child trafficking and child labor?
Maybe I was a little harsh about Dallas but it is this weird place because it is so “new”. It wants to be cool NY but wants to look fashionable LA. So you see the guys riding down take your pick of fake urban centers. Legacy west for example in his Ferrari and then another Ferrari which is followed by a Lamborghini while they look at the girls sitting outside wearing too much makeup carrying the new trendy handbag. Everyone drives from their mega mansion which is squeezed into a tiny plot of land with small backyard to a giant parking garage at their job that was stolen from the north or is the American operations of a foreign company to go back to their car to go eat at jack n the box, Jason’s deli or chipotle for lunch.

I have spent a decent amount of time in Dallas traveling for work and spent a lot of time there in my early 20s partying and 40s working.

It just feels like a place with no soul that takes culture, jobs and trends from everywhere else.

New Jersey has a soul. Pittsburgh has soul. New York has Soul. Heck even Fort Worth Texas as some soul. Dallas is a giant sprawling mess of gobbled up prairie where you shop, eat, drink and try and keep up with the jonses.

Old money highland park is beautiful and some of the fake lake areas but the other areas. Not that great.

Covid, take a bow

Regardless though.. yes, he did beat trump the first time. Kicked his ass actually

He then proceeded to a a shitty job while in office.
Real shitty.
Like, historically bad shitty

He then had an unprecedented cognitive decline, coupled with the worst performance debate in modern history

So bad, in fact, that he was pulled from the ticket, for someone who, to the amazement of most logical people, was not only a worse canditate then he was, but somehow was even worse then the angry former first lady who, like the aforementioned cackling empty suit from California, also lost to a twice impeached inserructionist felon

Only due to a rigged election. But he did win again and that is all that matters. The new narrative that he is going to gut social security is more stupidity. If the RP under Trump was to do that they would never win another election. Now that shows true stupidity. Saw the babbling fool today you must be so proud.😋
