OT:LET'S GO METS

I think things will get worked out but in any event here are some trade options as Jeff Wilpon is not a Harvey fan:

- Harvey for Giancarlo Stanton
- Harvey; Lagares; Tejada for Boegarts and Betts
- Harvey for Joey Gallo and Profar or Odur

How will things get worked out:

- Harvey pitches every 10 days for balance of season (Nats; Yanks and Nats again if needed)
- Harvey pitches 1 game per playoff round)

Harvey is taking a PR beating and rightfully so - and per the above - he saves some face.

I'm critical about Mets Management / Ownership in many ways but in this scenario - Harvey and Bor-ass are the villians and the selfish divas....and quite frankly teams should steer away from Boras clients - as all you get is agita from this guy
 
I would never count on working anything out with Boras. He does what is best for his client and wallet. Where was Boras when the Mets were talking about limiting Harvey earlier in the year and Harvey wanted no part of it? Where was he last year when Harvey wanted to pitch toward the end of the year because he was feeling so good and the Mets would not let him? While he can come across as protecting his client, Harvey is going to get roasted by most passionate Met fans who are dying to see the team hold on to win the East. If they don't and he shuts himself down it could get ugly. With Boras involved as his agent and the Mets tendency not to pay top dollar, he is at best 50-50 to stay when eligible for free agency. I would also like to hear more from Dr. Andrews about the magic of 180 inning limit. What is it based on? I don't think shutting down Strasbourg done has paid dividends for the Nats.

When my son injured his arm we visited Dr. Andrews and his partner Dr. Fleissig. Both incredibly bright as well as extremely nice guys. They do not come out with cookie cutter advice. Every situation and individual has unique characteristics. I doubt that Andrews told Boras definitively that 180 innings is it. I have some empathy for Harvey as these are decisions that are potentially life altering. My pure speculation is that Boras manufactured this story to make Boras look like a good guy. I generally accept that Boras has a role to play and do not begrudge him that. In this circumstance I think his motivation is transparent and not in the best interests of his client.
 
Harvey has drama queen written all over him. I really wanted to like the guy because I think he is a winner. However, HE is mishandling this. The Mets are in the middle of a pennant race and don't need these distractions.

Mets radio guys were discussing during the game how Harvey's pret-game chat with the press was odd and they had never seen anything like it. Harvey strikes me as a me first kind of guy and not a team player.

Before yesterday, I thought it was 50/50 for Harvey resigning with the Mets was a pipe dream. After yesterday, that number crashed landed into 0/100 that Harvey would even think about resigning with the Mets.

I still hope they can work this out and Harvey will pitch in the playoffs if the Mets get there. But I seriously doubt it.

Then move him to an American League team before that can happen.
 
Last person on the Marlins I'd want to see up in that spot is Prado. And that includes Stanton. He's just a gamer and the Mets don't have a hitter like him. Not with the way he battles at the plate, can work a count and hang in there until he gets a pitch he can handle. D'arnaud hit into the double play on a 1-0 count. The only thing I could say is that most of the times that a Mets batter gets 2 strikes on them you know what's coming next. And it's usually on a pitch out of the zone too.
 
Two strike breaking ball in the dirt, just like you draw it up except for the half assed attempt by the catcher to block it, Yogi hit a fit!
 
Worry not. Niese and his 9.92 era over his last 3 starts is gonna be lights out. And the offense is gonna put up runs by means other than by home runs., By just stringing hits together.
 
Just what I was afraid of... The repeat of 84, 85, 87, 99, 06, 07, 08. Hope they right themselves up before it's too late.
 
Can't stand losing games when your scrubs cause it / contribute for it to occur...today - Recker and Friday - O'Flaherty....why Captain Collins continues to play minor leaguers in the stretch run goes beyond logic.....He pinch hit D'arnaud - then stay with him as your catcher until game is over.....One also can question why Clippard pitches the 9th - now he can't pitch tomorrow and maybe even Tuesday.....I understand Collins takes heat if someone else loses the game in the 9th but you need to think big picture and the Nats game tomorrow is more important than today's game......

Though I am no Niese fan, I think he pitches well tomorrow....
 
Remember in August when Collins did no wrong? Now he's in the stretch where he can do no right. Time for him to earn that extention now.

Sounds like some are starting to bail already. Not a good loss at all and certainly puts a little more spark into the Nats and their home crowd being only 4 down. But, if you want to win the division you need to win big games. This should be a good series and we need to find a way to win some of these close ball games that we have been losing recently. The bullpen still seems to be very unsettled and we need all hands on deck. Duda, Murphy, Cuddyer and Harvey all need to suck it up and be ready to perform. Lets go!
 
Losing vs winning close games is all about the little moments within a baseball game. Being clutch at the plate, advancing runners, coming through in situations where even a sac fly would suffice. And on the mound; not falling behind or walking hitters. Especially leadoff hitters. Lots of guys can hit or pitch when it's 7-0. But what about when it's a one or two-run game either way? Time to see what we're made of.
 
I'm getting much more nervous. Harper seems to be on fire for the Nats and let's say Niese does not give me confidence.
 
Win one of the three against the Nats and we are in OK shape. Win two and we are in excellent shape. Sweep and it's not quite over but it's close. That is all the possible outcomes that I acknowledge.
 
Duda is back and Murphy pinch hit yesterday. So I'll assume he's in today. Not a bad lineup with 6 and 7 hitting around .300 and number eight has 16 HR

I have no confidence in Niese in a game like this and I wish he wasn't opening the series. I feel like the Mets are playing "not to lose" and just hoping they can get one of three. This first game would be HUGE.

But what other choice do you have? It's Niese's turn. Do you alter your rotation to pitch -- who? Matz, who hadn't pitched in over a month? Thor, who is on innings limit? Any other options?

Niese has hit a bad patch but is fully capable of coming up with a big game. Need eight from him today!

I agree. It's just bad timing. Would love to steal the first game but he's the worst of the 6-man rotation to do so.
 
I would have preferred pitching Matz today. He had his rehab, and the Nats have never faced him. And Neise is Neise, or at least the new version of Neise, which involves much less velocity.
 
These guys today are a joke:Larry Dierker pitched over 300 innings at age 22.Warren Spahn threw 260 at age 42.Maybe it's too early pitcher specific training instead of concentrating on being a better all around athlete.
 
Niese needs to come up big today. Biggest start in his career at a Met. I am not going to be happy with 1 out of 3 anymore than I was happy with 1 out of 3 in Miami. We need to win this division by winning games. We have the Braves after this and while they are playing really bad, we need to play well and win the games we are supposed to win. We gave the Nats life by struggling in Miami and losing games to Boston. Boot to the throat time.
 
Going by the tweets from Adam Rubin, Marc Craig, Michael Baron, etc, Alderson just said that Harvey will pitch tomorrow, in the last series vs the Nats if he has to and... THATS IT. No more for the season. And he's not allowed to pitch out of the bullpen.

If only he just agreed to be in the 6 man roration. He would've been rested up and had at least two more starts in September. Instead he complained about it and the Mets had no choice.

Ad Terry Collins said this morning: SH** HAPPENS. Can't even blame Collins or Alderson on this.
 
Forgot to mention to that they're trying to save him for the playoffs. But IMO, I'm sure something else will come up that will prevent that from happening.
 
We're back to TC lineup foolishness. DW is not a 2 hitter and Murph isn't a 3.
 
Is the panic on here from the Mets fans based on past history or do you truly believe the Nats have finally figured it out?
