OT:LET'S GO METS

They need to come out tomorrow night and just demolish the Dodgers. Demoralize them and then finish them off in Game 4. Utley is as dirty as ever and the Umps totally blew it last night. If that were called right its interference which is an auto-double play and inning over.

Before they overused Clippard and he started playing hurt, he was phenomenal. Clippard doesn't suck, but since he's not 100% its affecting control of his changeup.

Yeah, I've watched about 150 of the 164 games this year. I know about Clippard's bad back.

I was venting. But as we stand right now, he can't get anyone out and his velocity is down and his pitches don't have the same movement they had pre injury. It's a concern, obviously.

True he wasn't dominant at any point; but he did show enough fight to not allow any more runs after that dysfunctional 1st inning. Worked his way out of several tight spots with strikeouts.

That was a very gutsy performance on a night he didn't have much. Just two earned runs and fought his way out of trouble again and again.

Regardless of how this year ends, if the mets put a halfway decent offense on the field, who the hell is going to stop deGrom, Syndergaard, Harvey, Matz and Wheeler next year? Keep Bartolo around too! Trade Niese for a couple decent prospects. It's nice to see the Mets set up so well for the long term.

My gut tells me Harvey is gone, and I am OK with that if we can get a big bat in exchange.

I'm okay with trading Harvey as long as the Mets get bigtime bats in return, particularly players who have yet to earn their long term contracts. If that trade is not out there, then keep Harvey and just dominate every night. My guess is there will be no trade.

I would pitch Harvey until his arm falls off next year and then trade him to a contender at the deadline.

He's under control for 2 more seasons, no? No reason to unload him in the off season.

I'm also curious how his arm responds over the off season. There's no doubt he's a me guy, but that doesn't mean he can't settle into the rotation.

Also, Fatty Francessa thinks the Met's throw about $65-80MM for 5 years at him this off season and put him into the position of having to turn that down. He's still making peanuts the next two years. He could sign for life changing money and skip arbitration, etc. The thought being that with one Tommy John under his belt already, Harvey takes the money now and avoids putting himself in the position of risking getting hurt. If he stays healthy, he'll sign his $20MM a year contract later. If he gets hurt again, he has $75MM guaranteed.

But I would have no problem trading him, in theory, cause I think he has done just about everything wrong from a personality standpoint the last half of the year.

Hud-
What do you want for Harvey, position players or pitchers? or both?
Do you take top prospects, I mean really top 5 tool guys and take your chances?

I don't follow the minors enough to really answer that intelligently.

In theory? I'd like to trade him for as close to a can't miss SS prospect as possible.

But much of what I would want for him is predicated on Cespedes and Murphy. Do we resign one, both or neither of them? I think it's unrealistic to think both of them are back, as Murphy is gonna want get paid.

I like Flores more than most others do. He has hit at every level, so there is no reason to think he won't hit here if he plays 150 games. He also showed more pop than most expected. If he can play 2B and hit .280 with 16-20 homers, I can live with not resigning Murph. I'm not that high on Tejada. I think what you see is what you get.

What is the status of Montero? Is Wheeler on schedule?

I think some of this needs to play out before deciding what I would want in a Harvey deal.

I certainly don't want to resign Harvey to a long (6-8 year) deal. Studies have shown that pitchers' arms deteriorate rapidly 5-6 years after Tommy John. Boras is going to be pushing for a Justin Verlander-type contract (7 years $180 M) if Harvey has a great 2016.

Send him to the Cubs at the end of 2016 for one of their shortstops (Baez) and other prospects. With Wheeler coming back next June and Montero back next spring, we'll be ok in 2017.

I'd love to trade Harvey for a young stud like Mookie Betts or George Springer. The real prize is Correa, but no way the Astros give him up.

I'm not sure if that's a good deal for the Cubs. I think they may be interested in keeping Baez as well as Castro. Castro has done better at second now that Russell is at SS. Baez may ultimately play 3rd and Bryant could move to the outfield. Maddon likes guys who can play multiple positions anyway. Giving up a bunch of young talent for Harvey then having to commit to a Boras contract and all that comes with it may not be the best choice. Cubs have enough money to go the free agent route to bolster pitching.

Anyway, good luck the rest of the way. It will be interesting to see how Game 4 plays out for both. I'm expecting the Mets to close it out, but I think we will see a Game 5 with Cubs-Cards due to the pitching match-up. How huge is this game for Kershaw given his postseason performances?

So are you saying that the Mets wont be a contender next year? A contending team does not trade a guy like Harvey in July and the Mets will be contenders.

If the other starters are healthy at the deadline and you can trade Harvey for a solid bat that is not just a rental, you have to field offers. As you get closer to the end of this contract, his trade value will only go down.

I'm by no means counting my chickens because I know Kershaw tonight will be no Brett Anderson but I saw a poll asking who you'd rather face in the NLCS St. Louis or Chicago? My answer would be Chicago because that would flip home field to the Mets. And I don't think they have quite as much pitching depth either.

For those two reasons you mentioned I agree with you, and should the Cubs ultimately go to the WS I would like them to be my fall back team. Lets Go Mets!!!!

Mets 0-7 against Cubs this season, but last time Mets faced Cubs was July 2, and they have gotten better.
Mets 3-4 against Cards this season.
Mets were 0-6 against Pirates this season.
