OT:LET'S GO METS

Did Collins screw up by not making a double switch when he brought Familia in for the six-out save or did he just not have the right players available to do it? We all know it didn't come back to bite him in the a$$, but when Familia came to the plate in the ninth, I was saying "the Mets could really use an insurance run here."

Who were the Mets going to bring in for the double switch? I believe they had 4 bench players left - Cuddyer, Plawecki, Nieuwenheis and Reynolds. Would any of the 4 strengthen your defense? Yes, they really needed an insurance run, however, the added probability of a hit during the Familia at bat was not worth the expense of weakening their defense.

Makes sense. I'm a Yankee fan, so I wasn't sure what Collins had in the cupboard. Thanks.

This thread is epic; like this Mets' season. Let's keep it going. Also a good testament to the new forum technology.

Is it true that last night's game was TBS' highest rated program ever in the NYC market? I thought I heard that this morning on Boomer and Carton.
Last night will be a blip on the radar if the Cubs split at Citi. Once no sweep is eliminated ratings will go through the roof but highest rating on TBS isn't a big thing compared to major networks

My hat is off to the Mets what a ball club. I feel that the cubbies are a tougher team than the Dodgers so I hope they win both games at Citi Field.

Go mets!!!

You think TBS isn't a major network? They are in the same tier for weekly primetime viewership as USA, FX, TNT. The division series games on TBS had much higher ratings then the ALDS on FS1, but that might be because of TV markets.

The gym teacher will start at first today.
He has to start, not that he's been much better. I would have played Kelly Johnson at 2nd and Murphy at first even though that puts another lefty bat in there. We need to put more balls in play. Way to many K's to keep winning tight games.

Cespedes looks lost at the plate right now also. That 2-1 pitch on the outside he should just be trying to shoot into right field for a single to get that run in. But it looks like he's trying to jerk everything so he passes that up and then goes full throttle with 2 strikes.

David Wright-Exhibit A for what happens when you know you can't hit so you just have to look for a walk. Like that one kid in Little League. You know the one. Shame of it is he's in a very key spot in the lineup.

David Wrong problem is he one the guys always trying to guess the pitch. See ball, hit ball. Just ask Murphy.

Definitely made it this far in spite of him. Just bothers me that he's still always one of the first guys they look to give air time to after Mets victories. Supposed to be some kind of leader I suppose. Certainly doesn't lead by example.

Thanks you defined my point. You are right that is the tier where they are, which is well below watching sports on Fox, ABC, ESPN,...
Its not a top tier for sports. People don't look for sports on the same channel that replays Law and Order all night

Harvey was fantastic. This team is playing well at the right time.

Great day. RU comeback followed by a Mets win. Awesome day.

That was a critical win to get with Arrieta up tomorrow. I know it's in NYC but that is a tough matchup. If the Mets go up 2-0, you have to think they win the NLCS. We've got the edge in starters in games 3-5 and game 7 if it comes to that.

I'm never gonna be that comfortable in saying that because if it's one thing we've shown all year it's the ability to beat the opponents top guys yet get silenced by some rookie or journeyman with a 4.55 ERA. But I agree that tomorrow is very important to the team because of the 2-3-2 format.

Yep - thought it was a must win with Arietta looming. Still finding a way tomorrow would be appreciated. :)

Yes. A lot of hate for Wright. The guy almost was out for the rest of his life this year. Why not the same hate for Cespedes? Anyway if both of them come alive, look out, Mets win hands down.

Anyone else think Lagarus wearing that spandex hood helped him misjudge that fly ball? Could it have hurt him hearing the sound off the bat, thus thinking it wasn't hit as hard as it was?

Maybe because you can honestly say that if not for the contributions by Cespedes during the season the Mets wouldn't be playing right now.

I second that

Knight Shift, without Cespedes performance and the fear factor of him in the lineup the Mets don't win enough games to make the playoffs. Meanwhile, when Wright was a young player on a team with veterans to carry the team he still didn't produce. Fast forward to now, Wright continues he no-show performance in key situations. First time shame on you, second time shame on me. There is no third chance. Wright doesn't have to be Mr. October, but hell he's not even Mr. May. Wright pads his stats when it doesn't have great meaning like up 10-1 in the game that's already decided. Wright is the type to add 2 or 3 more hits to make it look like a good game. I was a big David Wright fan up until a year ago when I started to grow tired of him striking out because he spends too much time guess the pitch. Everyone knows he can't hit the curveball, yet he continues to watch it every AB when he has 2 strikes. Either work on hitting it or attack an easier pitch earlier in the count. Bottom line, Wright stands too far off the plate and his swing is too long especially with 2 strikes.

FYI: David Wright set the Mets' record for most strikeouts in a season (2010) with a 157 and he's 1st on the Mets' all-time strikeout list. Not even Dave Kingman struck out as much when he was a Met.
