OT:LET'S GO METS

Was talking with a friend about Cespedes and my friend commented how many of the Cuban players have great talent but are very inconsistent and/our lackadaisical in their approach.

My theory----

Cubans view baseball as a way to earn $$ and escape Cuba. Once they manage to make it to the majors and get that juicy contract, they do not try as hard/keep up with the training/practice etc. Think about the lifestyle differences between living in Cuba then traveling the USA with what seems like an infinite amount of money.

Sure not ALL Cuban players are like thi and many non-Cubans are.....

I just really think the whole way they view/value baseball is different than American born players.

What about Dominicans?

Wow. That looked like it hit in a very bad spot. Should have pulled him out. But Mets get another run.

Just like I said yesterday, this team needs to upgrade the catcher position and trade for a hitting short stop. The offense comes to a screeching halt after 3 or 4 batters and that has been the difference in the series.

Pitch Harvey in the 9th?

Yes, he's still going strong. And he has won me, as well as 99% of all other Mets fans, back over into his corner with the performance tonight.

I'd rather go with a four pitch Harvey, than a two pitch Familia against the Royals 3, 4, 5 hitters who love hitting fastballs.

Why let Harvey face a left-handed hitter in that spot? You either bring in Famiglia or Niese to pitch to the left hander(s)

There's a reason why certain things are chalk in sports.

Like bringing your closer in to start the f@cking inning.

Because 98.9876376476374637463746736437% of the time they work.

Flores' bat is perfectly fine for a SS. Here are the shortstops that hit better than Wilmer Flores this season, by wRC+:

Brandon Crawford, Giants (career year, more than doubled his HR total from 2014)
Xander Bogaerts, Red Sox (OK - one of the best young SS in the game)
Jhonny Peralta, Cardinals
Asdrubal Cabrera, Rays
Troy Tulowitzki, Rockies
Marcus Semien, Athletics (a butcher in the field, 35 errors this season, net downgrade for sure as a SS)

You think the Astros are trading Carlos Correa?

The Mets find a way to emplode. In this case David Wright clearly made an error by not allowing the SS to make the play while he covered 3rd base. Then you have Duda make a terrible throw at the plate. I love the Mets and were pulling for them to win this series but this Royals team is a complete team in every sense of the word.

The Mets should have won on a good throw home by Duda. That throw was awful.
Yup - and hearing the announcers going gaga over how Hosmer made such a wonderful base running play is pretty sickening. A good throw home nails hiim by five feet and those same announcers would be saying, how can you can on that, not worth the risk, can't make the final out at home.

Incorrect: Cespedes has been on 4 teams in 2 years, 5 teams in 4 years. Is there a pattern here?

Agree. Absolutely noooooooooo baseball IQ.

The story on the Tigers trading him was that they want him back but were worried about the clause in his contract that prohibited them from making a qualifying offer. They thought the trade would make it easier for them to sign him.

Will you stop talking about "upgrading for an elite catcher."

It was f@cking stupid last night and it's still stupid.

You're probably one of these guys who wants to trade Ruben Tejada straight up for Buster Posey. Call the FAN and tell Steve Sommers and leave us alone.

D'Arnoud has hit .300 at nearly every level of professional baseball with + power for a catcher. He handles the staff well. They love pitching to him. His arm is below average. Who are you upgrading him with?

NBC was the big loser tonight, losing their NYC audience for their marquee matchup, then having that game turn out not to be a thriller and losing most of the rest of their audience to this game.Even the Packer fans are watching now.

This is so wrong. Wright had to make that play. Who knows how that ball was spinning with all the English on it. Imagine Wright letting it go, spinning away from the SS and not getting an out there?

Yes, Duda's throw was terrible.

Leaving Harvey in after the lead off walk will lose this game.

A good throw home gets him, I agree. The truth, though, is that the Royals have been forcing the action on the bases the whole game and the Mets have not nailed them for it nearly enough. Unfortunately, I think Hosmer was playing the odds based on what had happened before.

C'mon, Harvey was throwing a gem - I completely understand letting him pitch to at least the first batter and seeing if he can finish the shutout - agree he should've been taken out after the walk.

The Royals don't strike out.

You put traffic on the base paths and Familia (a sinker ball pitcher) is in the shits again.

I don't care if Harvey was throwing a perfect game. In modern day baseball, you hand the ball to your closer. It's an elimination game in the World Series, not a Tuesday double header in May.

I agree with your argument overall. But Harvey had nine strikeouts. Fine by me letting him start the 9th, but you HAVE TO pull him after the walk.

I don't mind Harvey starting the inning, but he did have to come out after the walk. To that point, it's fair to say he was pitching better than Familia has in the Series.

Good 10th by Familia, though.

And that ball is the SS. Look at the replay, Flores didn't even have to move his feet an inch to field that ball.

As a baseball fan with no dog in the fight this has been a great WS ...so far. 2 extra innings games. Mets need to win this to make it a historical WS. Get to Game 7

Familia has stunk, but when does the guy get to come into the game with clean bases?

You're asking an awful lot of a guy to come into an elimination 9th inning, man on 2nd and no outs and he is a sinker ball pitcher.

Especially when the Royals have been on him all series. He hasn't been up there missing bats. You have to assume they are gonna put the ball in play.

Terry reminded me of Elmer in those dugout shots..clicking his 4th grade 4 color pen.
