OT: Milo Yiannopoulos & the PC Culture at Rutgers

I wonder how anti-PC people (i.e., Conservatives) would feel if the topic was "How the Conservative Right is Destroying Education"?

Heck, Rudy Giuliani and Faux News almost had a heart attack as a result of Beyonce's performance at the Super Bowl. Something like that and they've be calling for the perpetrators to be sent to Guantanamo Bay.
Guantanamo Bay.

I haven't seen that

Can you please provide evidence

The idiot protestors have very effectively just brought Milo and his message to a new level of fame.

As usual, the misguided liberal ideals backfires on them. Murphy's law should be changed to Liberal's Law.

Where was the faux-outrage from the right when Columbia students protested Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's speech? After all, he is also a controversial figure who could open a college student's mind. PC run amok.

There was outrage, just not fascist anti-free speech outrage.

What ever happened to open discussion?

I don't care whether someone is left, center, or right. They all have the right to their views. Hell, I even listen to the Donald. Don't agree but I listen. When you shut your mind to different ideas you never learn anything.

At least that's my simple minded way of looking at things.

"Young Americans for Liberty" - is this the group that opposes the "Young Americans Not for Liberty" group?

Totally agree. Its the conservatards that are threatening progress in america
With any luck there wont be a REP elected again in my lifetime
maybe longer
As long as the Dems have someone elses money to give their constituants, you wont see another Rep in the White House. When, not if, the money runs out, hide if you can.

"Conservatards" would be one of those tolerant nicknames that Liberals espouse, right?

The students should have formed a malitia like the guys in Oregon. If they had weapons and took over a campus building the conservatives would have also backed the protest. This way they would get everyone behind them. These students need to think more.

I believe that you fight against ideas you disagree with using speech and your ideas. Vandalism and throwing paint gets a protestor no where in convincing anyone and is just wrong.

Accordingly, I will take the opportunity to use my free speech rights. However, all of you talking about PC - do you condone inviting a guest to speak where the tour is called " It’s the first stage of Yiannopoulos “Dangerous ****** Tour,” a series of speeches by the Breitbart Tech"? If you call protesting that tour as political correctness then I am a strong advocate of being politically correct. Think of whatever group, nationality or religion that you belong to and sit idly by when someone starts "Dangerous ******derogatory slur*****" and tell me that protesting it is acting PC.

No, that would be the EXTREME type of protest that ticks other people off. I believe in their right to protest, peacefully. Not through militia or throwing paint on people.

To me it's simple, have any opinion you want, when you try to impose your opinion on others, a line has been crossed.

Winston Churchill once said, "If you are not a liberal at the age of 20, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative by the age of 40, you have no head."
When you are young, you are much more open to thinking anything can be changed for the better (taking into consideration that "better" is always open to interpretation and assumes that ones perspective is that things are not good in the first place). In fact, Sanders just pretty much said this when asked why so many young people seemed to like him so much.
As one ages, you certainly become more jaded and less enthusiastic about any positive change once you grudgingly accept the status quo.
Thus, you can see why any bastion of "change" (ie college) is so resistant to somebody with a different voice. It is ironic how any group is so determined to silence opposing viewpoints when you assume they also totally believe in the constitutional right to say it.

If I'm Ash, I stay friendly with PC but BC can go screw themselves...
Okay...

Call me confused here, but when did Providence get a football team? And BCU still plays in the ACC, right? Did I miss a thread somewhere?

[QUOTE=" It is ironic how any group is so determined to silence opposing viewpoints when you assume they also totally believe in the constitutional right to say it.[/QUOTE]

The thing is these types are fascists, not liberals. They don't believe in free speech. They are not taught the Constitution. Their professors, like Obama, believe it's a living document thereby giving themselves license to reinterpret it as they wish.

Never be afraid to confront stupidity with stupidity.

Right. Because a crazy socialist and about to be indicted prolific liar would have been a better decision for them to use.

This gives America some hope that the brainwashing hasn't taken complete hold. Hope these kids get some real airtime.

Very immature shallow post.

Remind me...did they shout down and scream with intent of interrupting it and throw some color paint all over people?

Nobody has a problem with protesting...impeding and sabotaging is a different story...

The problems I have with Universities is the brain washing they do of students. Three nephews attending 3 different colleges, complained to me at thanksgiving that professors were ramming their views down their throats, and not ever presenting another side.

A quote I have heard many times and keeps ringing true. "Universities should teach students how to think, not what to think!"

I really have to wonder what they're studying, what electives they're taking, etc.

I have yet to run into this problem at Rutgers; in fact, the professor who had the biggest influence on me (not a popular guy here, for other reasons) was a conservative.

The First Amendment guarantees American's right to free speech, particularly on political matters. In the current environment, the threat to that most basic right is coming in the form of PC. Some have concluded that they cannot win without outlawing topics they would prefer not to discuss. But punishing RU for the actions of some knuckleheads makes no sense.

No offense, but anyone who tweets things like, "‘Feminists want to do away with gender pronouns in that they’re all so disgustingly fat no one can tell what sex they are anyway," and posts polls asking if one would "rather my child have feminism or cancer?” is clearly not interested in adult dialogue, but rather is a rabble rouser trying to stir up controversy and gain attention.

Of course, just about anyone should be allowed to speak at a university, but someone with this guy's track record shouldn't be surprised if he gets protestors. And in a free society, protestors shouldn't be an issue for anyone, although I'll concede the red paint was unnecessary. I would have preferred the protestors to engage in debate rather than making a scene (although to call what they did "assault" is way over the top).

Do all the RWCJ posters who like the speaker than agree that Beyonce had the right to her show?

Because it seems to me some but not all say she had no right to her performance.

I say they both have the right, and the trigger warning idiots are on equal footing with the Giulianis of the world who think cops are above reproach.

Also I congratulate Milo Yaniwhatever. Unlike Condi and Trump, he doesn't cut and run from criticism and cry like a baby about protesters and dissenting opinions, as much as his own opinions I personally find abhorrent.

I'm not sure anyone said they liked the speaker...that's an overreach and faux discussion point. What people are saying is college universities should be more tolerant of all viewpoints...not just group think.

Beyoncé can do whatever she pleases...and people are welcome to criticize her as much as they want...and the economics will tell the story...

Giuliani has every right to say she's a disgrace. And you have every right to say Giuliani is a disgrace.

I like you congratulating milo...

But do you really want to criticize Condi Rice for having the class not to make Rutgers Graduation a spectacle?

I used to hold the same view as NIRH re:Condi. The thing is, I now realize that she doesn't feed off of controversy, so I came to understand her decision.

On the other hand, the Breitbart guy feeds off of controversy, has a history of giving speeches that turn into shitshows, etc.

Keep taking that argument off the rails.

The protesters are idiots, but responding to them with "Trump!" isn't a better argument. I certainly wasn't implying that Sanders or Clinton was, but merely that if you and I agree that the protesters' argument is ludicrous, then it doesn't do much to raise the substance of the debate to respond to it with Trump's name. I'm shocked to discover that you're one of his acolytes.

"Brainwashing?" You're not doing much to raise the substance of the debate, either.

You know who is loving this?

Milo Yiannopoulos. Great publicity. I still have no idea who the hell he is btw. Wouldn't have even heard the name if this thread wasn't created.

Good work "BLM" students. Your buddy Milo has more fame now.
