OT: NCAA College Football Games Thread 11/22-11/26 Tues-Sat

One last thing on Wilcox. He inherited a program that Sonny Dykes had revived from 1-11/0-9 in 2013 (and 3-9/2-7 in the prior season). While on paper 2016 (Dykes' last year) looked bad, he had losses of 4 , 10, and 3 points, but some bad blowouts too--they happen to all middling/bottom feeders!).

Cal recruiting was not terrible, the 2014 class having three 4 star recruits, the 2015 class #29 in the nation and five 4 stars, and the 2016 class #27 in the nation with a 5 star and four 4 stars (#4 in the PAC 12). Unlike when Schiano took over, the cupboard was far from bare- Wilcox had talent on the roster.

Dykes was all of 19-30 at Cal, and the team had a losing record his last year. "Revive" is a bit of an overstatement.

I don't know why he was fired; the timing was strange. It was thought that he had too much "wanderlust." My guess is that he didn't fit in well at Berkeley; I had thought he was a peculiar hire in the first place.

He was caught looking around. He never wanted to be at Cal. He is a Texas guy, and he has shown, like Bielema, that going home can yield success (hopefully Greg will show that soon?)

I think you missed the point that he had left a full cupboard of 4 and 5 star players. Not so when Greg got here, and any comparison to Greg in his 3rd year to Wilcox, particularly in a 6th year is raisins and watermelons.

Have pointed to similarities to Jonathan Smith (2-5/2-5 in year 3) and Mike Leach at WSU(3-9/2-7 in year 3) , both taking over bottom feeders and within 4 years got them going. Same could be said for Bob Stoops at Kentucky, who was 5-7/2-6 in year 3.

There’s often a bit of “snobbery” in voting with regards to the P5 vs G5. Even within the P5 that’s the case with the SEC vs the others.
Yeah about the G5/P5. With Utah, it seems like they’ve been getting the SEC treatment these recent years and I don’t understand why.

I like seeing the teams lower down the totem pole do well. If they happen to get some preferential treatment, which I don’t particularly see, that others normally get well that’s fine with me.

OSU drives pretty easily down the field on the opening drive for a TD 7-0

Not likely to last but GT up 7-3 on UGA

I took the under in the OSU- Mich game (56). Didn’t expect big play blunders from OSU . OSU should be up by a lot more. Offense making little mistakes that hurt.

GT hanging with UGA in the 3rd…down 13-7 but this has happened a couple times with UGA

SC just closed it to 23-21 down against Clemson

Dear sir- I know you are in Cal, but FFS, Justin Wilcox is in his sixth season in the pillow-soft PAC 12. Give us a break with further ahead. after going 8-5/4-5 in year 3, he went 1-3/1-3 in 2020 and now 4-8/2-7 this year. If this is "further ahead," I'll take a bullet to the head right now. I would model NOTHING after what Cal and Wilcox are doing. NOTHING. ZERO. NADA. ZIP. They are losers. During our Cal tour several years ago, the tour guys roundly mocked Cal athletics. Not a good look or feel. Loser mentality out there.
You may have a good nose for stats, but you have a terrible eye for football. If you can’t see the difference between Cal football and RU, and I’m not talking W-L, your rants are meaningless. There’s still hope!!! Ha.

You don't have good reading comprehension. Year 6 vs. year 3. Piss off.

SC takes a 31-30 lead on Clemson. If I’m not mistaken, Clemson has the longest home winning streak in the country.

Oh man DB mistake again bails Michigan out. PI…first down instead of a FGA

McCarthy TD and he’s like get out of my way big man lol

Oh baby 75yd TD run. That’s the normal kind of big play Michigan I’m used to, not those big pass plays

Oh baby again and now the SC game, Clemson fumbles and SC recovers up 31-30.

Pete Lembo STs kicking butt today for SC

At least Ohio State has been spared the embarrassment of getting crushed in the CFP.

Not bad for Shane Beamer and SC…knocked off top 10 teams Tenn and Clemson in consecutive weeks…first time ever. Hats off to Pete Lembo STs too.

Southern Cal controls its own destiny. A win tonight and I think they become the best 1 loss team. Ohio State played its way out of the CFP with this humiliating loss as did Clemson. But an LSU win over Georgia May seal the deal for them, even with 2 losses.
