OT: New York Yankees 2020 season

Yankees fans can well remember all of the agita caused back when Betances was on the mound for the Yankees with a runner on third in a close game....especially with Gary Sanchez behind the plate.
Good times. šŸ˜±
My first thought when Betances was on the mound is hoping he'd do what he did as a Yankee.

Prayers answered... a walk that ended up scoring on a wild pitch. Vintage Dellin.

The dictionary lists "Front Runner" as Proud NJ Sports Fan, and "No Shows" as those who disappear when their team loses several games in a row. Ring any bells?

I can't watch this team with so many scrubs on the lineup
I love watching the young guys get in. That's been the only upside of the losing streak. We'd never have gotten the chance to see guys like Estrada, Florial, King, Kriske etc. Look how great Tauchman and Frazier are doing now that they're playing every day. They're both .300 hitters. I'm hoping we get to see Clarke Schmidt a little bit. Would be great if they could get him a couple big league innings.

Which sewage treatment plants are they dredging up to find these middle relievers?

Holy crap!(pun intended)

It's all the kids. Heller played a bit last year and King I think had a couple innings after September callups. This was King's second career start. They're all rookies. Boonie left King and Kriske in too long IMO. But after a 5 run 7th, here we are in extra innings. Game 2 should be interesting.
Sanchez and Gardy. Biggest rally killers in the lineup.

Last season he had 28 hrs this year heā€™s ugatz
Yeah, it's pretty obvious at this point his bat speed just isn't there anymore. Hopefully they win the World Series so he can retire on top. He's still a great fielder, he's made a couple amazing plays in left this weekend, but he's just awful at the plate this year.

I thought Boonie was crazy to make this move. Then Dirty goes and hits a grand slam! Wow.
Same thought. I was actually hoping or expecting him to strike out so he wouldn't hit into the DP.

Couple of weird wins today, but given the circumstances... we'll take em.

Cashman is a mediocre GM who gets to spend a lot of money.

Cashman traded for Stanton on the basis of one great season.
Cashman and his mouthpiece Boone defend Sanchez no matter how pitifully Sanchez performs. Does Sanchez never up his game because he is never held accountable?
Cashman resigned Gardner and let Romine go.
Cashman bashed Sonny Gray and let him go for peanuts.
Cashman thought Torres can play shortstop (he can't) and didn't resign Didi.
Cashman bashes AndĆŗjar, who many on this board seem to forget was one of the better hitters in the league in 18. Like Gray, AndĆŗjar will star for another team when Cashman trades him for peanuts.
Cashman must take the responsibility for the training staff that can't keep players on the field.
Stanton had a lot more than 1 great season
He defends Sanchez in the press because it's good business and it's smart to defend your own players. What does bashing him accomplish? BTW, I hate Sanchez as a player.
Austin Romine has a career OBP of .283 he's a decent player but really nothing special. He's a backup/poor starter.
Sonny Gray couldn't handle NY, didn't have much value at that point. No Yankee fan was sad to see him go.
Don't give up on Torres based on this season, he still has a ton of potential. If he's not at SS where is he? 2b is for LeMahieu, 3b is for Urschella,
Andujar is a very nice hitter who is a total liability in the field wherever you put him. He's a DH.

As far as Cashman bashing his players I'll admit I haven't seen much of that, but you guys might know that better than me. In general it's not a good idea to knock your own guys in the press.

Just an aside here, but if the NL and the AL are gonna have 8 teams qualify for the playoffs, there are currently only FOUR NL teams playing over .500 baseball. That means that (if things stay the same) half of their playoff competitors will be at .500 (two) and below (two more).
What a strange season.

Your take is from an emotional fan standpoint which is curious in a year that is anything but normal for MLB with changed rules and 60 game season.....perhaps look at this as instead of an unemotional outsider instead:

  • The Yankees did not give up major assets in the trade for Stanton. He had more than one good season. He is a good clubhouse guy who is an extremely hard worker but who has been subject to injuries. The only drawback is salary/contract length. But he is still only 30 years old and has an opt out.
  • Sanchez gets defended based on his raw talent level and Cashman/Boone wanting Sanchez to perform to that talent level at his low salary. He has not, but it makes no sense to bash Sanchez as it will only diminish his value further.
  • Romine, it appears wanted to take the chance in Free Agency for a larger role and to be a starting catcher. He was a great team guy and a quality back-up for the Yanks, but players have the right to move around to different teams.
  • Gardner is also a glue guy. It is likely this will be his last year. He started slow last year and everyone was saying he was done as well. Re-signing Gardner had nothing to do with not re-signing Romine. He was retained for depth as Judge, Stanton and Hicks were all coming off injury and he can play 3 OF positions.
  • Sonny Gray sucked for the Yankees. Some guys can't pitch in NY. He was one of them and proved it over and over again. Gray's lack of value was due to his bad performance in NY.
  • Torres played SS for most of last year. DiDi was bashed when he first came to NY. DiDi wants a big payday in Free Agency which did not materialize coming off injury so he accepted a one year deal. Torres has MVP type talent and most GMs would salivate to have him on the team at SS.
  • You'll have to provide examples of Cashman bashing Andujar.
  • Agree that Cashman needs to take responsibility for the training staff.

I'm a bit worried about Gleyber coming back in the short season. He's not going to have much time to turn it around.

I'm not going line by line of your posts because your first one is completely stupid!! Stanton wasn't needed at all and an awful no trade contract. You really have no clue at all. And what did Cashman do today?? Nothing! Absolutely nothing!

Aside from the Scranton lineup, Cole has been looking very mundane his last few starts.

The 1st point is fine. Stanton was basically a free agent signing with a bit of discount. They gave up nothing for him.

The Yankees didn't need to make any moves, I think it was smart to hold. Whatever deficiencies are minimal or temporary.

Disagree. Their line up awful now and who knows when guys will return. They needed a MI and more relief arms.

Gleyber should be back any day. Britton real soon too.
Let's hope Judge isn't far behind.

Who cares what they gave up for him? It's a horrible one sided contract with a no trade clause!! The Yankees are stuck with him until 2028.
Temporary. Do you really think everyone turns it around at the flick of a switch? Have you seen the Yanks/Tampa games this year?? Have you? Tampa is a much better team. Yankees have many issues.

It isn't just Tampa- The Yanks are only 5-11 against over .500 teams. They need to find a way to start beating the teams that don't suck. You have a couple of guys coming back soon...with luck, that may help a bit

The name calling is quite unnecessary. It's just a board with people's opinions, and yours seems like it is coming from an overly emotional drama queen. Some people like to debate things point by point. Others such as your appear to come here to act like they are a belligerent drunk and constantly shout people down.
