OT: New York Yankees 2020 season

Paxton, Tanaka and Happ will all be free agents. I think only Tanaka comes back.

Five in a row. They need to get healthy is all. But if the playoffs started tomorrow, they would be the 8th and final seed. Considering they may be even more injury-plagued this year than last, that is something, at least.

I guess we can stop panicking now.
Not quite. In the bottom of the 7th the Yankees sent three batters to the plate and none of the three were hitting over .170. I don't know that I've ever seen that before. Too many weak bats still in the lineup.
We'll see where this team is really at in the three upcoming games vs. Toronto.

13-3 tonight, 3 home runs from Higgie. At what point does Sanchez start to realize he's being Wally Pipped?
Six homers last night, 7 tonight. First time in Yankees history the team has hit 6+ home runs in back to back games.

Right. Pipped by a 30-year-old guy that has never hit much, majors or minors. Happy for him, but Yanks need to go after JT Realmuto. Saw him in High A during his season in Jupiter. Was mostly strong defensively with a decent bat--would guess around 650 OPS. Didn't hit for power until he had spent a few seasons in Miami. 29 now.

The Phillies signed Greg Bird yesterday to a minor league depth deal.
I was wrong about Bird. I kept waiting for him to come around. Such a beautiful swing.
BTW, I'm beginning to think that Sanchez will be playing on the same team as Bird real soon.

I don't think they go after Realmuto. He's going to earn a big contract, and I don't see the appetite for yet another large, long term deal to add to the Stanton and Cole deals.

I agree. A catcher with Realmuto's bat is way more valuable to a bunch of other teams than to the Bronx Bombers.

I read that 6 years, 180 million is what JT is asking for this offseason. That would be over half of the money that the Yanks are losing off the books this year. I'd rather see them get a guy like Romine back who's a good game manager and a high average bat for a catcher. Or someone like him. Let Sanchez DH if he ever gets decent again.

Higgy hit 3 out last nite and he’s on the bench tonite ?

Doesn't matter. in the 4th, Gardner, LeMahieu, and Voit went back to back to back. Then later in the inning they were joined by Stanton and Torres.

They tied the all time record for HRs in an inning and broke the record for HR's in a 3 game series with 18 (so far). Old record was 16.

Why? Get the best catcher in the game at 29 years old. Don't sign Andjaur. Don't sign Sanchez. And if Judge keeps getting hurt the next 2 years before free agency don't sign him and I love Judge WHEN he is healthy.

One of my favorite Yankees games in a while.
Excellent three-game series vs. the Jays.

Miggy and Dirty are cheap. Plus, cash is smart, he won't just let them walk. Far better to wait and trade if needed when they've got good value.
I would not be surprised if part of why Hal signed off on Cole's contract was knowing Pax and Happ were coming off the payroll after this year.
If I had to guess Realmuto's destination for next year, the Mets would be at the top of my list, as long as Cohen gets approved as owner. He's crazy rich and I would expect him to try to make a huge splash on day one of free agency. Also up there would be the Phillies, I'm sure they want to extend him.

They do want to extend him and he loves Harper but they need bullpen help first.

I agree that the Mets will make a big run at him too. They could use a big splash under new ownership.

Sanchez was clutch last night.
Could this have been a turning point for him ?

Yeah...I know.
But "ya gotta believe".
Perhaps the 20th time is a charm.

I agree. But he's still way below the Mendoza Line.
Now that the lineup is back at full strength, if the pitching continues to be anything like it's been for the last two weeks it could set up an interesting playoff run for the Yankees.
