OT: New York Yankees 2020 season

There is absolutely no way Stanton goes anywhere. He's owed like 265 million over the next 8 seasons. Like Bus said, he has no trade value, has a no trade clause. He's never getting that money anywhere else. 0% chance he opts out. Not even worth thinking about. Just pray for the best.

You figure the Yankees would eventually learn their lessons when it comes to big salaries over long periods of time. Yet, they finally rid themselves of the bloated contracts of A-Rod and Ellsbury and they plow right back in with Stanton. Exactly how many stars keep up their superstar stats for more than a handful of years with just as many "dead end" years to to follow? I thought they finally "got it" when they bypassed Machado and Harper last season.

And worse, at their prices they stand very little chance of being benched if their skills go south. Think of the dead weight in the line-up that included A-Rod and Texiera.
The 2nd contract to Arod was the tough one but that seemed to happen to everyone back then with the big names at the ends of their careers. But imagine the contracts ARod would have been getting now and let's be honest, we would take ARod's first 7 years all day any day for any player we could sign now. 100+ rbi and 30=54 HR...Elsbury was horrible- Tex was a mix but not worth the money. On the other hand CC ends up a steal.

You seriously think Stanton is going to opt out??
It was Cashman who said that Andujar was being moved to first and the outfield.
I sure must have missed seeing Frazier being called back up last year. Oh wait he didn't. Let's see if he makes the team this year.

Revisionist history.......You made the claim on Andujar last year after his injury....saying he would never play 3B and could only be a DH because of his surgery....and you were definitive about it when challenged. He will play multiple positions this year including 3B.

You have denounced Frazier a significant number of times and after his comments last summer when sent down to the minors said he will never play for Yankees again.......he did btw last year....and will again this year.

You could be no more wrong in your negative wrongness.

Everyone is down on Stanton right now like you .........but I'll make a prediction that Stanton will have a very good year....at least 40 dingers, over 100 rbi's and high OPS.

Amazing how far Andujar has dropped in everyones view since his first year where he was an untouchable. As was Frazier. I remember when there were fan rumors going around about deGrom but how the Yanks wouldn't even consider putting either one of them into a package for a trade. Yeah- that was just fans talking but how silly it seems now. With that - Frazier just doesnt seem to be a Yankee, Andujar, we do have to see how he comes back but he is a really bad 3B so his real spot should be DH...Stanton- I think he will have a number of years he will hit 35+ HR and 100 rbi for the Yanks but he will never be liked.

Just thought I'd share. Can you name all the Yankees?

First off do you seriously think Stanton was a good acquistion?
So you admit that Andujar isn't the Yankees 3rd baseman, will play multiple positions and DH. That means he is not the Yankees 3rd baseman and makes him a utility player. He lost his role as the Yankees 3rd baseman correct???
And where is Greg Bird??

That's an EXTREMELY optimistic prediction for Stanton... given he's likely starting the season on the IL. I will be amazed if he plays >130 games this year.

BTW: I know it's early, but I'm kinda liking what we're seeing from Iannetta so far.

Spoken like a Met fan.

Not sure how it equates to being a Met fan...hell, I was afraid the Mets would make a trade like that.
I’m just going back and agreeing with some that prior to 2019, those two guys were nearly untouchable on the Yankees and now they are far from that. Such is the way of baseball.

MRI was negative. Further testing being done.
One of the things I really do want to see, is Judge healthy all year. He really is a true star player both at bat and in the field. Just a fun player to watch. Regardless of what team you may be a fan of, I want to see him a full healthy year

Andujar is the best hitter on the team...besides the two middle infielders. He's going to have a big year and erase the loss of Stanton.

All of these strains...these fellas need to take a page out of the Mickey, Whitey and Billy book. Stay out of the gym, hot the bars. Tat 30, Stanton should be able to roll up without even stretching and play the game. All of these injuries from over-training...

I read in a biograply of Mickey, he stayed out all night drunk, came to the park hungover, no sleep, and hit a homer first at bat.
And this is with a torn ACL that there was no treatment for in those days.

I always think about how much greater players like Gale Sayers would have been if they lived during today's medical technology.

Not really as he still as an undiagnosed issue.
Still an MRI rules out a number of structural issues which could sideline him indefinitely. Yes it could be something else nearly as bad, but at least it allows the medical team to start narrowing down the list of possibilities.

Stanton, Depressing:
After earning $25 million in 2018 and $26 million in 2019, he's owed another $26 million in 2020, per Spotrac. After that, he can opt out. If he doesn't, he'll make $29 million in 2021 and 2022 and $32 million annually between 2023 and 2025.

Then—deep breath, we're not done yet—he'll earn $29 million in 2026, $25 million in 2027 and another $25 million in 2028 with a $10 million buyout.

By then, he'll be 38 years old.

Imagine how much better he could have been.
Since the start of 2019, A then 29 year old, Giancarlo Stanton has missed time with:
A strained left biceps
A strained left shoulder
A strained left calf
A strained right PCL
A strained right quad
A strained right calf

Mickey Mantle hit 54HR's and drove in 128 runs at 29 years old. GS works out too much. No other way to explain why a young guy would be straining all of this stuff all of the time. He should cut way, way back and just play baseball.

He is a body builder not a baseball player in his mind. The guy is jacked.

Rosell Herrera is this years player that comes out of nowhere and makes a name for himself. All he's done is hit so far. Plays multiple positions, switch-hitter, and he can run. Tyler Wade better start to hit the ball or he could lose his roster spot.

John Olerud's daughter passed away.
I was just telling my wife about this. Our son was diagnosed with trisomy 18 at his 20 week ultrasound. I believe that there are less than 20,000 or so live births a year in the U.S. from this chromosome issue. He only lived a day after birth. My heart goes out to the Olerud's and how they mentally made it through 2 decades dealing with a child with severe physical issues. The Olerud's daughter was truly a one of a kind miracle in that she survived as long as she did.

German, Pax, Sevi, Judge, Stanton...starting to sound a lot like last year...cant you guys ever just have a backup player get hurt?

Now, for some good news... Sanchez had an infield hit for his first of the spring.

Chris Sale going for another elbow MRI. Sounds like they made a huge mistake by not doing surgery last season. He could be out 2 straight seasons now due to timing. This is why I was upset with the Severino situation. Wasted time.

Not sure which contract will end up being worse, Sale or Stanton.

Laurence Taylor never showed up
For work outs, and might have been
The best ever.

Spring training is over rated. Just have them report for opening day.

I've seen both, Stanton isn't on the same planet as LT. Full disclosure I'm a Cowboy fan and LT was one of the best to play the game. Stanton isn't even in top 1000 in my lifetime.
