OT: NJ Devils 2023-2024 Thread

Hooray for small favors, the NHL announced the Devils, Flames, and Flyers will get salary cap relief, because of the SA.

McLeod was hit with 2 felonies today. Everyone else got 1.

More talk the Devils are one of the team's looking at Jake Allen.

10 days away and I was excited for the return of Devils hockey. One look at today's line rushes and I'm ready for another break.

Palat - Hischier - Bratt
Toffoli - Haula - Mercer
Meier - Lazar - Bastian
Tierney - Nosek - Holtz

Bahl - Nemec
Hughes - DiSimone
Hatakka - Miller

Vanecek
Daws

  • No Jack tonight.
  • Marino on a maintenance day, but will play tonight - likely in DiSimone's spot.
  • Mercer finally moved out of the center position.
  • What has Palat done to deserve top-line minutes?
  • Meier at LW3 lol. They signed him for $9M to play RW and have played him out of position all year. Shocking he hasn't gotten going.
  • Holtz remains nailed to that 4th line.
  • Bahl and Nemec have been turnover and breakdown machines for weeks. Naturally they remain paired together.
  • Vanecek - ugh

6:30 PM RU @ MD
7:30PM Devils (DVR and watching at 845PM)

that lineup did zap some of my excitement.

Trade needs to happen yesterday.

How the avs have better legs in the third after playing last night while the devils have been off for a week is beyond me….

BIG $$ win.

Needed it in a big way.

Vitek a little uneven, but made some BIG $aves.

And just like that we’re tied…2 goals in 20 seconds.
I can’t understand how this happens in pro hockey unless it’s a fluke play. From the days when I was a Mite my coach preached never let a team score in the first two minutes of a period…last two minutes of period…or within two minutes of scoring or allowing a goal.

Read my post again, it looks like you haven’t put on your bi-focals yet.

Or you don’t understand how sports betting works.
First of all, I wear progressives, not bi-focals! Secondly, I would venture a guess that I have been betting sports, since before you were born!

Why not just "never let a team score"?

Had 'em all the way last night. I thought the stretch between the midway point of the 1st and the end of the 2nd was the best 30 minute stretch of hockey they've played in a long time. You knew COL would push in the 3rd, but I didn't expect them to come out shooting 17-2 before Marino bailed NJ out. While they gave up another 1st goal (35th time in 48 games) and surrendered 2 inside of 30 seconds (happens WAY too much with this team), there were a lot of positives last night.

-The fancy stats don't show it, but Vanecek was big last night. He made several crucial stops and despite giving up that softie to Girard, made the game-saver on MacKinnon late.
-Luke did an outstanding job on MacKinnon all night
-Miller needs to shoot more and should be on PP1 (105 mph!)
-Bratt and Hischier were everywhere last night

50/50 night out of town:

CAR lost to VAN
WSH lost to MTL
PHI beat FLA
PIT beat WPG

Hopefully no 3-point game between TB and NYR tonight.

Onto CGY, where they'll get a visit from old friends Coleman and Sharangovich. Hopefully Jack and Toffoli are ready to go.

Nit picking a little, cause I agree with most of your post, but there is more to being a good PP d-man then just a big shot.

For sure. For the most part, I've liked Miller's play this year and he has arguably been their most steady defensive defenseman. I think depending on the matchup, setting up that heavy shot with a screen in front could've helped spark the PP - now 0 for their last 17 and something like 2 for their last 33. Obviously, Jack coming back should help fix that anyway.

My solution is replacing Ondrej Palat with Jack Hughes

I was talking about the ML and PL odds moving a lot yesterday. Big $ was coming in on the Avs.
I only put $10 on them to win.
Okay, but be careful. The quest for easy money is easily addictive!

Since sports betting has been legalized in NJ, the number of people going for help has tripled.

Mac kinnon played 24+ minutes on a back to back. Did colorado need to win this game that bad?
It's because they trailed. Colorado is a very good team, but IMO they're good because they have 2 of the leagues best 4 or 5 players and they ride them when need to.

I get it, but are thos 1 or 2 points that important to play him 24+ on the 2nd game of a back to back?

It looks like the West may actully be better than the East this year...especially if we are looking at the top 14 teams.

While this might be true in every NHL game at some point…there were periods last night where both teams, at the same time, did not look good around the net.

Maybe it was just me but it wasn’t crisp.
