OT: NY Mets 2025 Season Thread

Another excellent start from McLean. He and Tong have clearly jumped over Sproat at this time.

De La Cruz has been really bad since they moved him to the pen. We'll see if that turns around any time soon.

Brooklyn is playing Jersey Shore again. I have the worst timing with them lately so can't go yet again. Will be down in the Eastern Shore MD.
I'm kinda busy too so won't see them this time around.

PCA with 2nd 6 rbi game in a week
If anyone in this thread says they saw this coming, I call BS.

I checked the MLB Pipeline scouting report on PCA for 2021, the year he was traded. He was viewed as a potential gold glover with a good stick but below average power (power tool score of 40 on the 20-80 scale). The report said he could (I emphasize COULD) develop into a 15 homer guy. Nobody thought he'd do that in one-third of the season.

Is Soto getting paid to take pitches? He gets the benefit of the doubt on every pitch and still doesn’t swing.

Jumping David Attenborough GIF by BBC Earth

Appreciated single (for now), but sounds like Taylor blew a W not getting to 2nd on his hit

Please. One of you underperformers get the job done this time. Hopefully 3rd time is a charm. 2nd time with the top of the order and Acuna as the automatic runner.

Agree- that was how I remember it too. PCA could become a guy that would be an elite fielder, great speed and be very average at the plate.
No one saw a superstar coming.

It is almost like he took Kelenic’s career lol

Feel good for the kid

Lindor needed to get Acuna to 3rd. Someway, somehow.
I honestly don't know. Lindor is hitting righty. Is his job to give himself up and hit a grounder to the right side? Or is his job to drive the ball somewhere and win the game? (Yeah, I know he did neither.)

Is today's player even capable of giving himself up?

As a Cub fan, my initial take after seeing him play was - he's fun to watch and you can see the talent in the field and running the bases, but will he hit enough at this level? He had to go back down for a bit, but started turning the corner at the plate towards the end of last season, But this? Didn't see this coming.

Dumb rule imho
The rule in question (for those who can't get past the paywall), is that if a fly ball is juggled and then caught, the runners can advance as soon as the ball is initially touched.

The rule makes total sense. Otherwise, outfielders will master the art of intentionally juggling the ball while they are running it back into the infield. The sacrifice fly would become a thing of the past.

What could have been a fantastic win after the comeback is instead a terrible loss given the failures in the 10th, 11th, 12th.
Could've been worse. Could've lost to the Rockies, like somebody did.

Or could've lost like the Braves did. Ninth inning, down a run, tying run on second, one out. Batter lines a single to center which the CF fields cleanly on a hop. The third base coach gives the runner the sign to hold up at third. For some reason, the runner misinterprets this sign as "go back to second". I guess he thought the coach was telling him that the ball was caught on the fly, which it clearly was not. The runner tried to get back to second and was tagged out easily.

Transactions du jour:

OUT: Jose Azocar and Genesis Cabrera, both DFA'd

IN: LHP Brandon Waddell and Utilityman Jared Young, who will make his Mets debut tonight as DH.

Availability of Vientos and Nimmo is uncertain. Neither is starting.

I really dislike these grey Met uniforms. Why do they wear them? They have nothing to do with their team colors.

I have zero sadness about either of those losses.

Baty is probably our most reliable hitter currently. 2 days in a row with a hit with a RISP. A revelation on this team right now. And for some reason he's batting 9th.

City Connect

I’m with you but my boys (25 and 22) love them. 🤷‍♂️
Red Sox have two sets of City Connects, and wore each of them in a doubleheader today. They have a sage green uniform which is the exact same shade as the Green Monster.
