OT: NY Mets Season

Yeah, who cares. Sometimes a change of scenery for a Met is just what the doctor ordered.

CINCINNATI -- Matt Harvey pitched six innings of one-run ball for his first victory with Cincinnati, and Scooter Gennett hit his fifth grand slam over the last two seasons, leading the Reds to a 7-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.
Harvey (1-2) gave up three hits in his third start for the Reds, who acquired him from the Mets for catcher Devin Mesoraco on May 8. So far, he's making good on his second chance, throwing more pitches in each outing as he gets back into form after being relegated to the Mets bullpen.

I feel bad for de Grom. He does not deserve this shit.

In better Mets news, Lenny Dykstra busted in/near Linden today after threatening an Uber driver. He was busted for possession of marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy. Guy still knows how to party.

If you heard him on Stern in the last couple of years--How's the slot?

Armando Benitez 2.0.....the question should be "Why is Familia still closing games?"......give the closing opportunities to Gsellman...he's earned it....How many times have we seen this ending with Familia?.....It's deja vous too many times over
Might as give Gsellman a chance to replace Familia and Lugo a chance to replace Matz. Also give Guillorme a chance to replace Reyes and some of the other youngsters a chance over the older has beens...

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!

I was there tonight sitting in the section right in front of Howie Rose. When Familia melted down,I looked back at the broadcasting booth to see Howie shaking his head. It's a good thing that he's on the radio.

You can tell almost right away, just like Benitz, when Familia knows he doesn't have it, sweat is running down his face. No balls, and he doesn't have a clue on how to tough it out. I'm so done with him. Any blown save hurts, but his are always at the worst time, when the team is either ready to turn the tide, and make a run, or when they have been bad, and really in need of a win.

Even with 3 blown saves, they would be tied for first at 28-18. Would be in first place if not for 5 blown saves.
It's not five, it's four. Most top closers have about two right now. So you could say he's two over par. Not good, but IMO not bad enough to replace him. FWIW, Callaway has given him a strong vote of confidence.

Would be a game behind without his 4 blown saves

I took a quick look at Familia's game log, 23 appearances:
  • Started out very strong. Seven saves and a win in his first nine appearances (the other was a non-save situation). No runs allowed.
  • Then he hit a tough patch. Three blown saves in five appearances in eleven days (April 16-26). But there was some extenuating circumstances. In one, he entered the game with the bases loaded - no margin for error. In another, he would have gotten the save but Lagares misplayed a catchable drive which would have been the third out. The other was a stinker.
  • Then he righted the ship with four saves and a win in his next eight (three non-save situations), until Thursday's stinker, which gave him a total of two stinkers for the year. Not so bad.
Of his 23 appearances, he has allowed runs in only four.

It's easy to see why Callaway has not given up on him, Nor IMHO should we.

Holy Hansel Robles Gary exclaims.

Stop overmanaging. Gsellman is lights out. Don't care what the book says.
Ship these bullpen losers out.
Gsellman was hardly lights out tonight. (Unless you mean in the "turn out the lights, the party's over" sense.) He survived the ninth thanks to an at'em ball and some Little League baserunning. Then after seeing him get a 400 foot out in the tenth, Callaway decided he had seen enough. As had I. Can't second guess that one.

Blevins is on the team to get that out. Sometimes guys have to do what they are on the team to do.

The good news is, Hansel Robles is recovering from his injury and is on a rehab assignment in LV. We wish him Godspeed. We desperately need him back in the Orange and Blue.

The sad thing is that I am only half joking.
