OT: NY Rangers 2024-2025 Thread

5 on 5 and equally rested….
Filip’s line should see the ice in either zone before Mika’s line.
I predict Mika scores less than 15 even strength goals this year…
Empty nets, man down and PP is Mika time
Mika is our biggest weakness come the playoffs.

Gotta trade him prior to the deadline. Just like in 1994 to toughen up the team for the playoff run.
He has a full NMC until the 29-30 season, and even for that last year he has a 21 team no trade list making a trade very difficult.

It is an abomination of a contract that no one would take on in a trade, anyway.

Definitely a good deal for the Rangers. I think going 7 years so he would still be more likely to get a second (shorter) lucrative deal after this helped, but it is still cheap.

Not that is should matter for Laf, but the underplayed thing about the deal is that it only has a modified, weak, NTC in the later years. I still can’t believe that on top of paying Zibanejad so much money they gave him an NMC for virtually all of his deal.

Hopefully they will stop giving such strong trade protection in so many contracts.
Yeah on the flip side the zibanejad contract is aging like milk. Hes so bad. Full NMC was absurd. Hed be like top 5 candidates league wide for an amnesty buyout along with nurse, huberdeau, PLD

Yup. Theres only two ways hes not a ranger. Those are death or retirement. Neither of which are coming any time soon.

In fairness to Rangers brass, he was ten times the player at that time than he is now.
He should of continued on his upward path, but instead turned into an absolute do nothing slug.

Indefensible that Zibanejad was given a full NMC fur 7 years of an 8 year deal , and only 10 teams he can be traded to in that last year. Panarin got a full NMC for his whole contract because everyone wanted him and he was on the open market.

Kreider didn’t get that and he took a reasonably priced deal. They paid top dollar for Mika and still gave him too much trade protection,

Nine minutes in and the Zibanejad line has been on the ice for two goals already (plus getting trapped in their own zone most of the rest of their TOI).

Bench his ass.
Forever.

They should just put the Chytil line out as the first power play unit.

Rangers goal differential +18, our "#1 center?"

EVEN. Nope, time to hold all players accountable; playing time needs to be earned.

Bench him. Gotta have a young center ready to step in and give it a go.

Rizzo sucks as well. Bases loaded and a weak pop to SS. Can't make this shit up. Volpe wakes up (unlike Judge). I look forward to the bullpen blowing this lead due to Boone's stupidity.
You’ve lost track of which thread you’re incessantly bitching in.

Reading this thread one wonders how the Rangers 6-1-1 instead of 1-6-1.

Chytil is significantly better than mika. And cuylle-chyil-kakko is significantly better than kreider-mika-smith

If I were Drury I’d fire Lav
In his defense at least he has adjusted the ice time the last few games so that the Chytil line is getting more even strength time than the Mika line.

The regular season and President's Cup is cute, but this team has shown an inability to get past the gritty, tough teams in the playoffs (e.g., TB and Florida). Mika is super soft and one of the reasons for this. We need to get better.

Because his team plays a retreating brand of no pressure hockey.
They give more time and space than any team in the league.
NO TEAM allows the opposition free zone entry’s with speed we do, and it’s not close.
We haven’t covered the off side wing in a year

Special teams and goal tending is why we win.
Mika being a shell of his former self will not bode well for either unit

I think it is time to end the Fox-Miller experiment.

Fox needs to freelance, and that isn’t working with a guy who constantly makes big mistakes with his positioning. I am not a huge Lindgren fan, but at least Fox could count on where is was going to be.

Lindgren was dragging down that pair. Ideally we trade for at the deadline and then resign marcus pettersson to pair with fox

You better insert a modern two man low forechecking system that starts pressuring 200 feet out.
You have to know hockey well to understand why Ranger defenseman reverse the puck under pressure so often while opposing defenseman skate out of their own end under no duress or get the puck to the always open off wing.
Mika hasn’t attempted a vigorous balls out forecheck effort in a year.
Our only sustained offense is the interchanging cycle with highly skilled offensive players, when the puck gets tipped or disrupted we are no where near in position to forecheck as a unit.

I don’t like Lindgren either, but at least he plays his bad defense using traditional positioning. Miller makes so many horrible decisions that huge gaps open up in the Dzone.

You know there is no way they are trading Lindgren at the deadline, right? They rushed him back in the lineup so they could bench Jones.

Well aware. Trading for pettersson just bumps lindgren to 3rd pair with trouba

Pettersson-fox
Kandre-schneider
Lindgren-trouba

Funny thing is Drury’s attempt to counter the physicality of players like Barkov, Bennett and Tkachuk from Florida is Sam Carrick and Rempe.…LMAO.

Find relentless forecheckers willing to be aggressive time and space limiting defenders.

The Rangers had their ass kicked again tonight. That was a 5-2 Ottawa win easy without Igor playing out of his mind.

Horrendous system.
Don’t tell me Flip, Kakko and Cuylle don’t have the speed and physical ability to play a current modern hockey style

My “favorite” part of the whole night was when Sam said that the Rangers were concerned about their zone exits being subpar against Washington, right after he told us that Zac Jones was a healthy scratch again. Then he went on to tell us all night about how tough Lindgren was playing.
