Back to the LIV-PGA drama for a second. It's been reported that LIV sent an offer to the PGAT that was rejected. The offer was for $1.5B invested into the new for profit entity but LIV would continue to operate and Yassir would be named co-chair of the new entity. But I seem to recall that the original framework, the PIF wanted Yassir to be the sole chair of the new entity.
Is LIV starting to feel desperation here? Their TV ratings here still are poor (big weekend for them as this is a US event on Fox), Koepka had that weird comment about how he feels LIV should have been further along, etc.

The only reason I know there is a LIV event is due to the publicity from Trump. These events are not well publicized.
Not a weird comment, very reasonable and accurate. LIV hasn't gained traction, but it seriously hurt the PGA. The only golf that currently matters is the 4 majors. Most PGA events should be on the Ocho.
The solution is to make LIV the teams-based golf league and allow players to do both.
Good post. And for those that say people will not watch LIV for the team concept, yet they are talking about/watching TGL. Pro golf can be lonely so I do think a limited team concept could work.
Frankly the only thing that would get me to watch golf outside of the four majors is another Tiger/Jack type player showing up. I don’t even watch the Ryder Cup. You are ranked on how you perform in the majors, everything else feels like an exhibition. But I will religiously watch as much of all four major rounds as possible.
Is anyone watching the indoor, video game that Tiger and Rory started?? Even though I've never watched the LIV at least it's real golf, played outdoors on an actual golf course. It's also funny is that Tiger and Rory blasted the LIV team concept but create a team concept themselves. Both should disappear and get rid of the stupid signature events as they are killing the fields in non signature events. Let the players decide when to play. They did a good job of that for decades. Golf is turning into NASCAR.
Players do have the ability to play when they want as long as theyplay in the minimum number of events required. You know that.

Not really. They have to play all the signature if they want to share in bonuses at year end. So forcing them to play all of them they skip the non signature events to get time off. The purse structure changed with the signature events too. Money is pumped into signature events and money was taken away from non signature events. Ok but that was HIS choice. He played where he wanted.
I look at it as he didn't lose, more so he didn't earn.
He got sick and withdrew the 2nd time. The first miss isn't a big number % wise, the second is a 30% cut.
My real point is the top players don't play the non signature events in any numbers. It been a terrible year so far with just a few exceptions
Just like the guys who chased LIV's big bucks, they chase the $$$.
My thoughts are they're independent contractors. They can go where they want. That doesn't mean the PGA, DP, or LIV have to let them participate or simply take them back. You either follow their rules or go somewhere else.
If a player went for the big bucks with LIV, they should have no expectation of playing on other tours, taking spots and $ away from those who have been loyal to the other Tours. They did what they felt was best (or easiest) for them and as we all know, you live with your decisions.
But us fans are the one paying. LIV unwatchable and the PGA has lost viewers for a reason.
They should have let the players earn money during the silly season from the PIF but still require them to meet the minimum. Instead the PGA blows it all up and than changes course.
Did anyone catch the Augusta Masters Women's Amateur? Boy they are good. Holmdel, NJ's Megha Ganne (Stanford) led after Round 1 with a 9 Under 63. Unfortunately she was not able to break Par in Rounds 2 and 3, finishing 7th. The 3rd Place finisher, the #1 ranked Women Amateur, Lottie Woad, from Fla State and England finished 3rd. She competed against Rutgers a week ago.
I did. About an hour of it. From my days in HS/college caddying for lady amateurs and pros in NJ they had much better balanced swings then men. It's still the same today!
I loved caddying for ladies. May not have hit it far but you didn't spend the day looking for wayward shots or male egos
I found the women were consistently great strikers of the ball, way more consistent than men. They failed at chipping and putting like men do.
They just led to a commercial with a mention of Ben Hogan with his single win in the Houston Open

Tough couple days for RU Men's golf. They had a rough final round at the Augusta Haskins Inv, then today they and all teams that played were to be given tickets to the Master's practice, only to have it cancelled.
BTW, ever play Springdale GC?
Someone tweeted average viewership for Fox this weekend was around 490,000, which I think is in the range of the TGL. The Valero got around 1.7MM. That's actually a decent number for LIV compared to other telecasts but you wonder if they slip when it's not at a Trump course.
Who knows where this will end up but I think many of the LIV fans have overinflated the negotiating position LIV has. Between the massive losses, the rumors of players thinking they may not renew their contracts, to suspect ratings, etc. it seems like LIV is closer to petering out, not gaining steam. I am curious to see what the next US event for LIV will get ratings wise.

Yeah I don't see anything on the horizon at this point. But who knows.
I think LIV guys have been reading the tea leaves wrong for awhile now. They have a product problem. They just do. The team thing has not caught on. The fact they got nearly 500K viewers should not surprise anyone given it was the first real US event on regular Fox. You had the hype of Trump being there for at least the start of the tournament and it was at his course.
What will be interesting is the next US event in DC. What kind of ratings will they get there? They are also going to be up against the RBC Canadian Open. If ratings drop from this past week, LIV has got themselves a real problem. Throw in the fact that you can't get straight answers from guys like Koepka on the future of LIV, this thing might be facing the most important next 4-6 months in their short existence.
Time to start the Masters discussion. Who do you like?

Nice. I may put Koepka in there. He seems to be someone whose game takes a step up in majors.
I haven't made a sports bet in years but since I missed being the Masters being in the Belgium the last 4 years maybe this is the year to jump in.

Dark horse for me is Corey Conners. He’s in good form with recent top 10s at the API, Players, and Valspar. Plus he’s had some decent results at Augusta in prior years.
I’ll have to check his odds at placing top 5 or top 10, but he probably has really good value.

Actually, I don’t really bet too much either.
That’s kind of my list along with Rahm. SS is a given but dark horse would be someone like Neiman. The Masters always seems to produce an out of no where winner every once in a while.
I'm a big fan of Nieman. Have been following him since he was an amateur and received entry into the Masters and US Open as the #1 amateur in the world in 2018.
