OT: Prime Time will crash and burn

Looks like he had top 20 defenses there after his first year and top 40ish in scoring defense. Those are solid numbers.

IMO Lewis’ offense will be the key to them doing well as opposed to the defense. If the offense is strong, the defense just needs to be mediocre.
For the sheer talent he had, that wasn't good enough
That, and they could never get a stop when it mattered
2014 was such a weird year (rebrand w/uni's, Jameis issues, always getting down in games and coming back, Oregon debacle in Pasadena)

I don't know if he is a great coach yet. I agree with the rest of what you said. He had advantages over all of the other coaches in the SWAC because he did use his own money and because he was able to get some players who were well above SWAC level competition. I think he had the better players in all of his games this year.

He won't have the advantages he had. He wont have the better players every game and off the field he wont have the better facilities, ect. At least not for some time.

I know you coached and why you chose not to pursue it. Do you think he will be willing to work as hard as college coaches work. In the office at 5am and out at midnight if at all. Head coaches grind, at least the good ones, in season and out. Nick Saban wins a NC game in the the post game interview he is already talking about getting to the office to start preparing for next year. Will Deion work this hard?

Another thought for you. Yes he will attract players with his personality and his "prime" style of interacting with recruits both in HS and the portal. The players he attracts are going to be a lot like him in personality and confidence. The question for you as a coach, can a "team" exist with too many "prime" type personalities on it? There is one ball. Will 3-4 receivers be happy sharing the ball? Will RBs share it? Can these big personalities all coexist in the "team" concept. Do you think Randy Moss, Keyshawn Johnson, Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson type personalities could all play receiver on the same team?

I seriously am interested in your thoughts. I know you have a good perspective on keeping players happy and the hard work coaches put in
I am intrigued if he lasts. I think his personality type is going to have him obsess over the job. I also think it is critical that he finds good assistants who are going to grind in the off-season and then he can finish off the recruiting process.

Truth be told, even with NIL, kids are going to buy into a program with a true vision and people who care about them. I also think that he truly does care about his kids, He is creating a perception of an environment that kids want to be a part of. If he wins there, kids are going to flock to him.

Sustained success is the hardest thing at any level of sports. If kids are buying into a program, and see the vision and plan, they will be successful.

Sanders and Leach are on my list of guys that I would go work for (plus a few more). I think Sanders' media presence is very different than how he coaches. I think he is a very good head coach.

Head coaches need to run programs well, not necessarily game day coach well. Any elite head coach in college has elite assistants under him. The most important things a HC does are hire assistants, raise money, deal with the media, and close the deal on recruiting, then coaching itself.

I could write a ton more about this but that would be too long.

As the official board spokesperson for the chronically verbose, I don't think your post was close to being too long.

Good stuff. Thank you.
when you get a chance just touch on the thought of all of those personalities on the same team. You can have too many “primes” on one team. Particularly offense. Everybody wants the ball and wants the spotlight

Coach Prime one of the greatest players ever and has major SWAG - he is going to recruit like there's no tomorrow. Total player's coach. If his X's and O's are on point sky is the limit. I do not see him failing - on the contrary I see him being EXTREMELY successful!

No. Fastest players ever? Sure. To be a great player as a defender you have to tackle - or at least try.

I believe that a good coach, with a good program, that has clearly defined guiding principles can handle personalities. There will ALWAYS be kids that complain and do not buy in, and a truly good coach will make them sit the bench or show them the door (if they can not help the athlete grow up).

I am always fine with sitting a player, even if it potentially made us worse in that moment. The goal is to grow the program, and to prove the guiding principles are something everyone has to stick to.

I think DS is in a position to do this, because he doesn't need the money. He can say this is how were doing things, buy in or buy out.

To me diva players usually act like divas because they have been allowed to.

In his introduction speech to the team, he said "I'm coming" more times than you would hear in a 4 hour porn movie.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a pretty established technique used by preachers and politicians. I doubt most sports coaches go there.

Colorado isn't in a great spot. Gotta think Deion is starting a massive program rebuild. He's gonna need 4-6 years at a minimum...

Yeah but he can sure cover the best receivers and return kicks and punts on a hall of fame level.

Well you think "War and Peace" is a novella.
I thought it was too boring to finish, actually. But that was back in HS and I lacked patience or appreciation for some stuff back then that I've gained since. So maybe I'll give it another try.

Haters just going to hate

I would love Prime Time here at RU
Deion wouldve Pied Piper most of the Top Jersey kids to stay home, along with the national recruits.

Mike Leach would’ve had most Jersey QBs, WRs, to stay home, along with some of the national QBs, WRs, and others.

But RU keeps doing things THE JERSEY WAY and the best player was the punter while we are still debating on the real reason why the QB recruiting is the way it is.

Anybody else looking forward to watching Sanders crash and burn at Colorado? He just seems to be at an all time level of self-loving cockiness, even for him. I personally think he's way over his head and won't have as easy a time as he had in the SWAC.
There are a lot posters here with a major man crush on Prime Time. I think he has as good a chance as any other P5 coach. He will have an edge in recruiting but lacks real coaching experience. He also has an enormous ego which usually burns coaches. He could get fired for doing something stupid in 2-4 years or he could win the PAC in 2-4 years. Anything is possible.

I'm willing to bet Prime will have a better season over his first 2-3 yrs -- better than Greg will have over his entire 8 yr contract. But that's obvious

Would Prime Time have self-funded the program?

And I can just imagine the fun that the SL would have had with Leach, to say nothing of the faculty protests. and possible boycotts.

I don't care much one way or another whether Sanders succeeds or not. CU doesn't play in the Big 10. But you're making assumptions about what he would have face3d had he come here that I think are inaccurate.

Schiano was never a HC in the B10 and couldn’t win in a watered down BE. Yet he got all of the benefit of the doubts in 2020 for 2006. Apparently lesson haven’t been learned from the Leipold talk that winning in lower levels don’t mean crap when it comes to Rutgers. And like it or not, Sanders was 27-5, just like Leipold was 109-6 in D3.

Half his salary at JSU was $150k, which doesn't cover a single assistant's salary at Rutgers. When he donates half his salary at CU you might have a point.

I watched some Jackson St. games the past couple years. Why, because I was intrigue by him. Like @Legendary Irish said, he had a huge talent advantage. The announcers would talk about this kid or that and I was wondering why are they at this level? So, coaching remains to be seen he had OSU to Rutgers talent disparity.

He also needs to hire a more professional and talented staff. At times it looked like the circus had come to town. Prime Time is a sound bite waiting to happen, if he sticks to being the Carnival barker of the program and that's it, he may do just fine.

His son and QB, Shedour Sanders, is a major talent. 36 TD’s and 6 Int’s this season w 70% completion rate.

Does anyone think that Greg’s 2023 recruiting class will compete with CU’s?

You can watch JSU’s bowl game next Saturday at Noon on ABC and judge for yourself.

OP's post is just about his hatred for Deion Sanders. Stupid to root against anyone climbing up the ladder. No one can say anything derogatory about his coaching/recruiting ability so far.

Haven’t really read the thread to see the consensus but I hope he hits it out of the park.

Not sure how anyone could say this is bad for CFB.🤷‍♂️
