OT: Problems in UCLA Locker Room

I can't help but wonder how much our guys also want to win, especially those knowing they are going to the NBA next year. Does winning even matter?

Glad he called them out. Another effect of NIL, the gift that keeps on giving.

Did anyone catch this after they took a beat down from Michigan? I was always a fan of his at Cincinnati and feel like his coaching style and success is kinda what Pike has been after up until now

Good for him for making his team accountable and staff. In the era of NIL and $$$ there should be nothing held back when things are not to par on the court and I think there is too much coddling and massaging players egos

I just posted a thread on this before I saw this and completely agree good for him

Definitely made me wonder if the pay for play has decreased motivation for our lesser players as well as our better players

Wow. Curious to see if putting everyone (his players and his staff) on blast publicly works out.

The players are supposed to be student athletes. He should be working harder than them because this is his job. NIL definitely increases the expectations but they don't just play ball.

His job is not to work harder than his players. His job is to prepare them to work harder and play better than the other team.

The players job is to carry out the coaches message and if any of them have any aspirations of basketball beyond college they should be working their tail off.

Players pounded the table to get paid and now they should be held accountable the way pros are

They'll either go on a tear and this will be the turning point, or they'll fold up like a broken card table the rest of the season and this will be the reason for the collapse.

He is delusional, not just his players
1. He brouught these guys in
2. He mentions mental state-----that's part of his job
3. Worried about gas in tank---that's on him too

He has a ridiculous ego...knocking his coaching staff too.

What does go see the Wizard mean?

He reminds me of us fans after a game...this is stuff you see in a game thread.

Why? To see how not to act. To show what happens when you don't show constraint. This guy is a wanker.
Disagree. Pike will never say anything like this, but that doesn’t mean our players can’t watch it on their own and get the message.

The message that the coach is better than everyone else and is blaming everyone else. The team was bad despite how good the coach is and how bad he wants to win.

He says the players are better then they think they are and then he brags about having 500 wins.

If i were to guess this isnt going to go over well.

Almost feels like a Gundy rant (ok st. Football coach).

He comes off as a terrible leader.
Pike and Cronin had the same issues and concerns. They both made it known the effort wasn't where it needed to be. Pike at the last press conference said he did a bad job getting these ready to play. The right way to tell the team (and the media) the effort wasn't acceptable.

I don't necessarily see our freshmen NIL guys this way. I don't think money affects the efforts of Harper, Ace and Sommerville. I think a lot of what fans see and blame on NIL is freshmen inexperience, and adapting to the college game and the effort required. As far as coaches complaining - get a better read on your recruits.

But are they really “student” athletes anymore? I’m sure the lesser players still are anyway.

what’s the goal ? would anyone here prefer a nice guy who can’t get to the Big Dance even with a couple of superstars or a ‘terrible leader’ who wins consistently ?

The overall team effort looked like it was there against Wisconsin.

Can we pry him away from LA! 🙏🏻👍🏼😂
I actually met him on UCLA’s campus earlier this summer. Was just touring around on the USC football trip and he was out walking his dog on the main quad. He said he loves the RAC, and remembers how tough it was when he was at Cincinnati, which I forgot that he coached at the RAC before. He was super nice and happy to be in the Big Ten. He did love UCLA though, said you can feel the ocean breeze, tough to beat. Seems like a no BS guy though and would take him in 5 seconds, but sounds like he’s getting ready to wrap things up, and why would he move to frigid Livingston from Bel Air.
