OT: RIP Alfa Anderson

Dead at 78.....you may not know the name but you know the voice and she sung lead on most of Chic's biggest songs. I know Nile Rodgers did most of the heavy lifting with writing and production but the ladies of Chic delivered the face and voice of the band

Chic was a great group.

The ladies were very classy and great singers.

Their bassist - Bernard Edwards - who died tragically on tour in Japan from Pneomonia in 1996 or thereabouts - was a great underrated bassist !

Nile Rodgers always reminded me of Brian Wilson.

Nile was a great songwriter / composer who used an orchestra and always seemed to be a step ahead of the game !

yeah I definitely have slipped too on the threads, a good number of people...maybe minor actors and actress and singers have died in the past 6 months but they come so fast and disappear from sight so quickly. I truly believe the younger generation has no reverance for history with how the way news and media is so disposable today

I try to do threads where the deceased made an impact even if their period of relevancy was small. Alot of stars from the 60s, 70s and 80s had major imprints on us growing up because we just knew of 3 networks and then mtv, hbo, movie channel, skinamax. We processed things deeper in our memory banks because we were not inundated with information like today. I can remember things from the 80s that I watched and saw and did but have trouble doing that with the 2000s if that makes any sense

Yes, Alfa was a legend in the Chic camp and did many other vocals on other record’s backgrounds. I texted Nile when I heard, he was very sad . Rest in Power, Alfa!

You do a great job! Today it seems unless the person is currently famous they do not mention it. You have to be infamous like Pete Rose to get a mention. So it is hard to keep up.

Was fortunate enough to see Rogers and Chic open up for Duran Duran a couple summers ago at MSG. They were simply amazing and had the house absolutely rocking on their feet by the time DD came onto the stage. Getting to play not only their songs but songs from Niles entire catalogue was freaking ridiculous!

Anyway….What a voice!
