That's a big early season win for Ash.

How good is Paetzell?

Paetzell is the real deal.

If it were up to me, Which it is obviously not, I would redshirt him this year and put McCabe who was a national Qualifier at 125, then let Paetzell loose starting next season. Similar to what Ashnault did.

Paetzell spent the majority of his HS career injured and I think made the jump up to 133 last year to try to get the state title. So we've never really been able to see the real Paetzell until now. I'd venture to say he's a notch below Suriano, but that's still a compliment going into the year. Kid was dominant at this tournament for who he wrestled against.

Side Note to this Theobold DQ'ed his Semi Match with an injury but dominated his first 2 opponents with a pin and a 16-0 Tech Fall before the injury.

My hope is the the DQ was mostly precautionary.

Paetzel is a good prospect, but I'd be surprised if he was physically ready for the B1G - even at 125. I'd be surprised if he didn't redshirt. McCabe was at 133 - who knows, but maybe wrestled there after seeing the registration list at 125. The twins Paetzel knocked off in the semis and finals are from my area and have carved out nice career for themselves in D2, but are likely getting bonused by a lot of D1 starters and backups. Lipari is also at 125, I think. He didn't wrestle this weekend but he I wouldn't be surprised if you saw him if McCabe is not going 125 for some reason. He's very tough.

Couple of very notable performances by freshman there. First, Mike Van Brill. Unheralded recruit, but knocked off Luke Karam in the semis and then drops a 4-3 decision to Lehigh's Ryan Pomrinca in the finals. Pomrinca just beat returning AA Randy Cruz in the Lehigh wrestle offs. Karam is probably a little undersized at 141 but still a nice win for Van Brill.

Also, Mulligan knocking off Correnti 4-0 at 197. Not a great field at 197 with 3 out of 4 semifinalists coming out of the Rutgers room, but this was an interesting result and Mulligan finished it off winning the tournament (although his finals opponent was a deep sub for Lehigh).
