I know some folks here go crazy for LoBro but Prime Rib is where it is at. Prime Rib roast is on sale for $3 off with Price Plus. Add in the circular coupon for an additional 1$ off and it is quite a deal. For those interested, the first cut is a little more expensive but is leaner and has more of the rib eye portion. For those like me, the chuck end or second cut has more deckle (i.e., spinalis dorsi or ribeye cap), more fat and more flavor. Yum.
Prices after PP and coupon:
Second Cut $5.77/lb
First Cut $6.49/lb
Second Cut Angus $6.99/lb
First Cut Angus $7.49/lb
My final tip, cook it at 200 or 225 degrees until about 123 degrees and then let stand for 30 mins. Should reach around 130 degrees (medium rare). When the 30 mins is up crank the oven to 500 degrees and roast for additional 15 mins to get that nice brown exterior. If you do this you will have the best standing rib roast you ever had.
